Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Recommended Posts

Quick question about physical game. ( The Meet Amico Video is there, I have to see it !  lol )

Will you have different physical for the same game depending of which retailer will sell it, or each retailer will have to choose which game they want to sell as a physical one.

Exemple, I want to have the physical game for Moon Patrol. Will I have to choose the retailer depending of the physical form I want to have ?

Or only one retailer will be chose to sell the physical game of Moon Patrol ?

Thank you.

"Ya never know" = Maybe, we're still in negotiations.

I must note how much I love that Amico game development isn't 100% tied to the license like all too many developers these days.  Make a fun game, and if the licensing works out then that's a bonus, but first and foremost: make a fun game! 🙂

So here's a question for you and everyone else here!

In regards to Cloudy Mountain.  Would you like to see MORE action or keep it more of a searching around type of game (like the original).  I thought it would be a cool mixture to have some caves/mountains/map areas be more arcade style... meaning... lots of things to shoot and not having to worry about arrow count, etc.  But in other areas... it's more of a searching around type of experience and hearing the horrifying dragon breathing off screen.  I feel a nice mix of both would be welcoming.  I would be concerned if the entire game was too much like the original (more searching than fighting).

What is everyone's thoughts?  Try to think for the masses (not just your personal opinions... although I would be interested to hear that as well).

Please include different modes. A "Classic" style similar to the original and then variants like action/arcade, horde/survival, boss rush, time attack, etc.

Questions from today's video.

So traps are already installed at the start of the round.

The first player out only have to choose which one he want to use.

But when there is only one player in the car, players who have to use traps need

to act quickly before the others ( if they want to use the same trap !? ).

If someone already took the wall, other players will not be able to choose it ?

When you are pressing on the wall, is it reacting at this precise moment,  or the wall is waiting the next car to arrive ! ?

Thank you.

Not sure if anyone here is a Switch fan, but I will share this here since it is Intellivision related. I made this poster in Animal Crossing and hung it on my wall. You can download it and add it to your house as well.01306a385f77c86fc6809707b76a81d2.jpg

Suggestion for the car game ("SideSwippers"): an unlockable mode where the track and cars turn into slot cars. This would be a standard slot car simulator using the game's engine.

By the way, if all the Amico games are as fun as this one, I can see each console owner buying 30-40.

Love it!  My kids and I are going to have a blast with this one!  He's big into HotWheels so even if you don't get the license, I'm sure he'll still refer to it as the HotWheels game.

it is effectively april which means your console comes out in 6 months. some of your answers now are saying you are worried about parts limitations due to corona and other issues. rumors are coming out that you may use the coronavirus as an excuse (even tho that is not an excuse it's the truth) but you need to stomp that now.

when will you start manufacturing. and when you start that process how much inventory will you have. if this is a pre-order when will the finished product arrive in your warehouses. not in people's homes, your warehouses. give us an answer. you know it or you do not. if you do not tell us why you do not know it as of april. you do not need to say 'i will have 50,000 units in may' but give a rough figure and rough month. expectations. we are your loyal customers and many of us are pre-ordering a VIP (myself included).

all the interviews are great and i am loving the content but all that really matters is the question in bold right now. or else it's all talk.

To be fair, the world is a pretty damn chaotic mess right now.  Entire provinces of China were shut down.  Shut down absolutely, for two months.  People in parts of China are beginning to be phased into work.  Intellivision didn't plan to finalize hardware specs for manufacturing until March, but those factories are now delayed in getting to the orders from other consumer goods and industry products that they were supposed to be manufacturing for five weeks.  In Hubei province, they're slowly coming on line.  This has ramifications, things are being pushed back.  All production in China is leveraged by the State, and the State isn't quite definite on its timelines yet for the entirety of the most affected regions, along with who gets back to work at which sites and when.  This is an unprecedented butterfly effect on manufacturing and shipping, manufacturers are now delayed in getting product to assemblers and supply chains are a mess - as things come back on line, I suspect, as everybody should, that bigger fish will get to feed first, since they're spending so much more and the Chinese economy took a massive gut punch to take on quarantine and containing this virus.

I don't understand how the gravity of the situation doesn't weigh in.  Who cares if rumors are coming out that Intellivision may use coronavirus as an excuse???  Rumors could come out that Intellivision spent the FE pre-order money to hire cheap graphic designers and a handful of animators to mock gameplay footage.  Rumors mean jack.  And the absolute tone-deafness of people to adopt and spread the rumor, knowing full well they themselves are trapped in their homes for the next month-plus, that regions of the country are now restricted travel... who cares?  If orders are delayed, it won't just be Intellivision as one product out of 20,000 affected, it will be many of those 20,000 products, and general marketing and engagement will move forward.

I think the saying goes, don't feed the trolls.

Question about Cloudy Mountain...  The original has so much replay-ability because the outer map and each dungeon are (I assume) randomly generated.  Will the new keep this randomness or will it be static maps that you progress through where each time you restart from the beginning it is the same map?  I'm really hoping they are random.

The book Tommy mentioned is going to be good.  In the meantime there's a bit about intellivision games history here.

https://history.blueskyrangers.com

And there use to be an intellivision podcast series that has some "deep-dive" into the games and programmer interviews.

http://intellivisionaries.com/podcast-archive/

Thanks for the links! Those podcasts sound like some perfect evening listening!

Hi!,

Thank you so much for sharing your story.

We've been keeping a lot of data, making videos, taking pictures, etc.  Would be cool to someday do a documentary on "the making of".  :)

Also... there is an incredible complete history of the original Intellivision company coming out later this year.  I've never seen so much research done for a video game book.  It's going to be absolutely amazing for anyone interested in the original Intellivision.

In case nobody's said it, thank you for taking the time to check in on this so frequently. And I'll be on the lookout for the book!

I have to admit, when I first saw SideSwipers in the trailer it didn't do much for me. After seeing this video I can't wait to play it with my best friends and our kids. We are all 40+ years young and kids 4-7.

Good call.  I don't follow drama queens on YouTube—mainly because I've never been bored enough in my life to make any time for the likes of them—but to whatever extent they are using Amico developments as fuel for their videos, I think the best thing we can possibly do in response is to ignore them.  Don't post their videos, don't post pictures or memes poking fun at them ... don't pay them any attention whatsoever, because that's what they thrive on, and it will only encourage more of the same.  (We certainly don't need any of that drama in here, either.)

Terrific video Tommy.  The game looks like a blast to play.  I  believe once folks see what  Amico is all about,  they will purchase one for the  home as a buffer against self quarantining re: social distancing that may show up in the future.  My wife doesn't enjoy watching me play strategy or sports games on the computer and I don't enjoy watching Hallmark Christmas movies with her and neither of us want to watch anime with our 30 year old so we are rarely in the same room together during this pandemic.  Wish Amico had been available for Christmas 2019.  Tuesday can't get here fast enough.

Another fun game!!! This did not seem like my type of game. But now that I see you play it.. YUP... I'm all for it! Another fun one.  Also have to say that Missile Command for Amico does seem to be a better playing game than Recharge. As I have not played either one, I will reserve judgement.  As should we all. Even the games that don't really interest me look like they'd at least be fun to play. Looking forward to more info!!!

Physical games...

Want more info on...

Thanks again for keeping this forum fun Tommy!

Tommy, any chance of the next Meet Amico video showing a game with the disc used for directional control?  I've really liked seeing the creative use of the controller in the Missile Command & SideSwiper videos, but in both cases, the disc was just used as an alternative to button presses.

It would be great to see something more "old school" like the original Intellivision controller, using directional disc, side buttons, and maybe even touch screen all in the same game.  For bonus points: have everyone on the couch and a few folks holding the controller in different orientations.
