Would you consider ANYTHING flung at Tommy’s wife because of anything to do with Amico harassment, or is that in any world okay?  What about the same IE’s employees?  What about YouTubeers who just want to report on what they like; so yea, really!

Well, I'm confused. Because you didn't seem to be talking about harassers in what I quoted. You just brought up general opinions people had on what they thought of some Amico games shown that you strongly disagreed with, in lets say, a very colorful way. Now of course this is not to say that the jerks that are harassing dont have similar issues with Amico games, I'm just not sure why you are seemingly lumping them together with legitimate gripes or opinions about the system. Also, could you point out some specific harassment in this thread?

Again, think its just more that some people are just more understanding of the times and appreciate the current added difficulties with Covid. This would be hard without a pandemic, so I’m willing as a paying customer to be understanding; and I think there’s a more silent majority that agree.

The items that are listed as being "incomplete" should be minimally affected by Covid.  Back ends and OS should be items that can be delivered with a mixture of online collaboration and outsourcing.  The materials and face-to-face needs for those items are minimal.

That's why I think it's fair to ask what, specifically, is not done.

You happen to know if that offered "user choice" where the player could choose do use the disc or motion?  Or motion only, even though things perhaps could have been the same with disc.

Going back to the Wii that you mentioned, I always felt that game using motion control because it simply wouldn't have worked well with stick and buttons (like boom blox, or trauma center) were fine, but most of the bad vibes came from forcing the player to waggle the crap out of things when simply pressing "A" would have worked.

... one of the Rampage games comes to mind.  😖

👍  From what I saw, I don't think IE will be shoehorning in MC into their games unless its a net positive and believe they are good shepherds for those decisions.  Not sure if EK allowed for a non motion input; but again (and assume one is able-bodied), I think the motion controls would be considered by most to be an improvement over the disc or screen, as implemented.

So much to unpack in this latest back and forth. Poking at the folks trying to bring out a new console under what are probably the most challenging circumstances in the last fifty years just seems juvenile.

The entire world knows that there is a shattering shortage of semiconductors. Entire factories are randomly being shutdown due to this pandemic. There is a tremendous bottleneck in the shipping sector from steam vessels, all the way down to OTR truck drivers. That is a GLOBAL problem, not some conspiracy. If a person has invested money into this and believes it's not going to happen, there is an open door to get your money back.

Oh, and the software? In today's world software is never "done". Sorry to be the bearer of sad tidings, but software is iterative.

The CEO of the company has come to play with us in our little sandbox, and answered questions and concerns ad nauseum. Some of the questions and concerns are obviously attempts at trolling, others have been interpreted as trolling wrongly. The ones we got wrong? That sucks and we're the assholes.

Attacking or threatening someone's family / friends because a person has decided that said console is an existential danger to their world view is utterly disgusting.  How does anyone think that's ok?

Hell, how did video games even become a world view?

It's not just chips.. My local Ramen House is having a problem getting Fresh (quality)  anything... Takoyaki will not be on the menu today. They are having issues getting (printed) napkins and chopsticks.

Go to your local Target or Walmart. Walk down the toy isles. The toy shelves are not barren due to everyone buying up all the toys. OK.. Maybe a good portion of the lego isle.  I've mentioned before, but Lego would be a fun partner. Wouldn't that be something?tm

Things like the 44 container ships stuck off of the California coast does not help either.

@jsmith73 Well said.

Dang... I'm not gonna say much. The opposition is honestly baffling, especially on youtube. Saw some videos by a dude named Darius something?  Hmm..If I don't like something I simply don't bother with it. I honestly think that's the normal thing to do, no? Some of the behavior on there makes me question whether or not there's mental issues at play? so I won't comment further to keep a semblance of respect.

But anyways, thanks @Tommy Tallarico for taking time out your busy schedule to answer questions and hang out with us as a fellow gamer. Ya didn't need to do that, but that's cool man. I don't see many CEO's doing that. Wishing you and team all the best.  It's a tough season... many know. I'm an illustrator and designer by trade and I've designed apparel for Nintendo just prior to Covid...and we know that even Nintendo has struggled to get their new theme park in operation due to all that is going on.

So keep on truckin' friend, there are voices better left ignored.  ;)

Wait.. What you both are saying is that if ONE ingredient is missing due to -insert reason here- . That could cause  a delay in getting the finished product? That is no excuse, to some people.  Just buy the ingredients at 10times the cost and sell it for the same price.. OR swap in ingredients that you can get. I'm sure that there is no oversight board/agency that would have a problem with that.

I really have to call you out on this Tommy. You throw the word harassment out a lot

My response was directed at the above comment.

I’ve been in this thread early on, and I’ve read it thru from the beginning and I’ve seen myself, as many have, folks ranging from being totally in to those who come in for the sole purpose of stirring the pot for their entertainment.  I’ve also seen how Tommy and others have responded to “I really, really like it a lot, really; but…”, and that can go a few different ways.  There are legit criticisms and I believe Tommy and those here are more than accepting to hear and discuss them (heck I’ve had a few myself) but there are others (and I hope you could admit that as well) that simply come in here for the sole purpose of trying to get under people’s skin.  The names may change but the narrative is similar, and after while they get grouped.  We all have our own lines as we are all individuals with different history’s, and whats across the line for some, is not for others.  There’s been times where I think some got grouped a little too early, but often I believe they get way too much slack, but my lines are different from others.

“You just brought up general opinions people had on what they thought of some Amico games shown that you strongly disagreed with…”

I’m good with people not caring for the system or the concept or the execution or the CEO or whatever; not a problem with that at all.  Its that there are some that feel that way that have an issue with my like of the system, concept, etc… or that come in here, to a positive to-the-system group and try and stir the pot.  Its not that we can’t or don’t want to discuss criticism, its the objective of bringing up the criticisms that are of the issue, at least to me.  That, and to be honest, was just trying to be a little funny and bring in a little humor to peoples day. 😁

Regarding harassment in this thread, I’ve not seen anything here related to rude comments made to Tommy’s wife or IE’s employees, but I’ve seen people be disrespectful, rude and with thinly veiled motives behind their posts many times.  Those, while both are frustrating, are not at the same level, but I’m not the one that appears to have lumped them together; in fact, I’d argue you tried to do that for me.  “I'm just not sure why you are seemingly lumping them together with legitimate gripes or opinions about the system” 😁

I stick by what I said above and don’t mind discussing legitimate concerns, and in fact I’ve said “I cant fault’ and “I get” in just the last few pages.  It really comes down to the difference between discussing criticisms and those that appear to have an agenda beyond that driving their discussions.  Maybe its a perspective thing, but thats all I got to go on, my perspective.

Do you disagree with them taking the opportunity to leverage the chip-caused delay to further improve the system and launch games?  Should they have completed these last year and squandered that time to add features, polish, etc. and just sit on them?  If you disagree, guess I know what kind of tree house yould build 😁.  With maybe non-packin games aside, I wouldn’t expect anything with system to be done until right before launch.  They should keep improving it with the time they have. Games are more bounded and developers may have a second project to work, but there is only one system.

... and I'm pretty sure that the squirrel shortage is due to the nut shortage, which is due to a tree shortage, because of the seed shortage (which is the nut, but we already talked about that shortage), and from what I'm expecting... I'm pretty sure at some point we're going to have a freaking dirt shortage.

You ever had those girlfriends who after a few weeks start pulling away and making an argument out of everything but never want to leave?

My point really isn't relevant to any continued product improvement.  I expect the OS and apps to be continually improved throughout the lifespan of the product.

My point is specifically that there is still not a shippable OS, as per Amico's fundable page.  To me, it's irrelevant if the product has scheduled refinements if the core release isn't finished a year after the initial release date.

I happen to be an integrated circuit design engineer. The chip shortage, while real, is overblown and is being used almost universally as an excuse. In my work, after the initial disruption of last April and May (2020) things have more or less gotten into a stable pattern. There is more competition for getting into a wafer run (business is booming for almost everyone) but you can still get your parts with a minimal delay.

I've done 5 chip submissions to the major semiconductor foundry since the pandemic began. Usual turnaround time for this particular process is about 3 months. The first submission was bad and we got parts back in about 4.5 months. Since then, they've either taken the usual amount of time, or they've been a few weeks late. Once we had to delay a run by a month because the fab was at capacity. In one case, we couldn't get our hands on a particular chip for ESD protection. So, we did a quick redesign of the board to put a different chip on. Took a couple of weeks. These are all minor delays and the overall product was gated by other issues, not the ASIC turnaround time. When you design a complex product (such as the Amico), you put a lot of what is called contingency in the schedule, so you can deal with getting your chips a month or two late and still meet your chip date. Or at least you should put a lot of contingency (slack) into the schedule.

You may have heard about the chip shortage hurting automotive manufacturers in the media. They are a very special case. They tend to use chips that are made in much older technologies (15 or 20 years old, so far, far from bleeding edge) with some special features (usually for high-voltage capability or high-temperature operation). Car companies are famously conservative, and when the pandemic hit, they panicked and shut down their lines, and canceled a LOT of chip orders (most consumer products companies like NVIDIA & Apple did not cancel their orders). The chip vendors, rationally, shut down their fabs. Now, it turned out these older fabs have had a lot of problems turning back on, with issues related to lack of spare parts for their older processing equipment and many older fabs are still at reduced capacity. This is why the automotive industry is facing a chip shortage. For most consumer products, the delays are minor.

The bottom line is, using "chip delays" as an excuse for why your product isn't getting down doesn't really hold much water, in general. Things are slow, but not that slow in the business. And it irritates me to see so many people using for a catch-all "get out of jail free" card.
