Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!,

For years I've been coming to the AtariAge Forums as a "lurker". Mostly in this section (Intellivision) as it has been my passion and favorite system for almost 40 years.

The people who know me personally or who have met me at conventions over my 30 year video game career know my passion for Intellivision. If you are a lifelong Intellivision fan like myself... please know that the brand is in good hands. The fact that we still have 4 people at the company who have been around Intellivision since 1981 is also an incredible achievement for ANY video game company. And although it may have gone silent for a few years in the early 90's... rest assured that the original passion is still very much alive. I'll look in some parts of the current office and see things like original signs, marketing materials, awards and my favorites... test carts! Bill Fisher recently found one for the original Space Spartans BEFORE him & Steve Roney (co-founder of the new Intellivision Entertainment) started working on it. SO COOL!!!!!!!

I'm hoping I can answer as many questions as I can... so please feel free to ask away. Obviously there will be a LOT I'm unable to discuss (or my marketing & PR folks would KILL ME!)... but I'll try to answer the best I can.

If anyone is interested in the latest interview I did (from a few weeks ago) that gives all of the most recent up-to-date public info... you can check it out HERE:

Thank-you for keeping the Intellivision name/brand ALIVE all these years!!!! One of our big goals in launching the new system is to ensure that folks 30 and under are well aware of what Intellivision meant to the video game industry 40 years ago and how we helped to revolutionize the gaming industry in so many different ways.

I feel it's time for another REVOLUTION!!!!!

Anyone with me?

:)

The Intellivision Amico will rock the gaming industry !!!

I have a question , for the controls.. The big turn of with me with the modern consoles is that you need a manual to remember what buttons and sequences of buttons does what when playing games. Will controllers functions in game play be simple and easier on the Amico.. Like back in the day.

Thanks for dropping by!

Will Intellivision Entertainment be at PRGE again this year with some form of update or physical demo, or would that still a little too early in the process?

I can guarantee you that no one will need a manual for anything. :) We've actually come up with a revolutionary (yet simple) thing in regards to the physical buttons on the controller. I can't tell you what it is just yet as the patents are still being filed. But all will be revealed at E3 in June this year. I think you're gonna love what we've done with the buttons! In fact... I guarantee it! :)

We're hoping to be at PRGE again this year... but nothing confirmed as of yet. E3 in June is our big focus right now. Gamescom in Germany in August is another big one for us (biggest video game convention in the world). I'm sure we'll probably have some form of presence at PRGE. Loved going to the show! Hope to be back in 2019!

Welcome. I didn't realize you were here until I saw your post in that ah emmm.... Atari thread...

Anyways, it will be fun to see how this project progresses.

(While you are at it, any time you want to send a Video Games Live concert to Pittsburgh again, feel free. It has been awhile....).

Do you know who owns the rights to the 14-16 TutorVision games? BSR, Real Time and World Book all deny owning the rights so they sit on a disk in a museum unable to be released.

Ill be waiting to see what you come out with for the Amico. Good luck.

I was kind of on the fence about this project, but the fact that you bothered to come here and post on AtariAge has pushed me into the "supporters" group. Thanks for being here!

It's refreshing to see a video game company engage with the people who have helped keep the brand going! Everyone in this forum will buy the new system - the challenge will be selling it to the modern gaming market. But I can't think of a better person that just might be able to pull it off...

Tommy, can I ask if the classic woodgrain and gold special edition of the Amico will be available in the UK?

I'm not 100% sure. I am absolutely hoping so. The reason I'm not 100% certain is that we are doing certain "exclusives" with certain retailers so we're not certain what any restrictions worldwide might be. I won't know the answer until early next year. But here's the good news... the Vintage Edition will be making it's debut at E3 in a few months. :)

Thanks! And thank-you for the vote of confidence in my abilities. You are correct that one of the challenges is selling to a modern gaming market... but we feel our story is extremely unique and one that resonates with the majority of people. And we have one heckuva marketing & PR team (as well as marketing budgets over $10 million). The amazing women who are launching the system with us were the same two people who ran PR & Marketing for Nintendo when they launched the Wii, the Pokemon franchise and the Nintendo DS! So I feel the odds are stacked in our favor. :) There are lots of challenges... but we as an entire team welcome them all and looking forward to navigating through them.

Thanks Tommy. I suppose I could always import one if need must. Just really loke the sound of having one based on the original :)

I'm with ya!! That's exactly why I'm creating that version. It's the one I want! :)

Although the Ferrari red with black carbon fibre Special Edition might be sitting right next to it. Whoops! I've already said too much!! :)
