I think he sold to another collector, not the Texas based museum guys.

Well, it’s an 8+ hour drive from Southern California to Northern California, so you’d really have to like those friends!

If you do make it to Socal you can visit Nurmix and myself and other Intellivision people that live here.

 

If and when they open that exhibit or museum, I would be happy to hang out with you there myself. :thumbsup:

It seems like innovative controllers like the Wiimote, Kinect, Move and WiiU touchpad, even though they brought in casual gamers initially, all irritated third party developers because the effort, for various reasons, was too large to be profitable and poor execution and repetitive releases frequently resulted, causing a loss of interest. Will the Amico be making just traditional style controller games or making mostly unique motion or touch-screen games, along with the disk for directional control? Do you think the time of the touch screen controller has arrived vs the frustration developers felt towards the WiU controller?

WiiU controller was the first step into what is now the Switch. Nintendo has a fairly distinct evolution of controllers. Look at a n64 controller at the middle part and how its the nunchuck part of the wiimote.

The only really successful controller out of the bunch you mentioned was the Wii. And although the Kinect did help to sell units to non-gamers... it had nowhere near the impact and numbers that the Wii did. Wii U was a complete and total failure/disaster to everyone (including... most of all... Nintendo).

 

The games that are being made on the Amico (because of the controller and local multi-player scenario) can not be made on any other console! It's because of the uniqueness of the controller that makes this possible (not the power of the machine). We're not going to compete in processing power with the other big 3. But we will compete with ideas. The uniqueness of gameplay options that our controller has is absolutely unprecedented in the game industry. We are exploiting that uniqueness to it's fullest and creating games that have never been able to be accomplished before now. If we just tried to put out a normal game... we'd be crushed by everyone else. But if we utilize the uniqueness of everything on our controller (and some MAJOR parts of our controller have NOT YET BEEN REVEALED)... then we have something special.

 

A lot will be revealed at E3 in June. Everything will make a lot more sense at that point.

 

So, to the last part of your question... YES! The time has come for a touch screen controller. Absolutely! The Wii U was a joke and Nintendo or any developer (because of the horrible installed base) never followed through on taking advantage of what it offered. But I believe Nintendo went about it completely the wrong way by making the controller as big and as expensive as they did while never really focusing on couch co-op. In theory, the Wii U could support two gamepads, but there wasn't really a game that utilized that. And if you wanted to purchase a second controller for that 2 player game that didn't really exist... then you were paying $175 for a 2nd controller. Way to go Nintendo! Way to promote family gaming. :)

It sounds to me that Apple is listening to "our" Tommy and trying to replicate his plans with their new Apple Arcade today. WTF?!

I just took a look at this, and it seems different from what Tommy is doing.

 

Apple has a problem that their app store is jammed with "free" games (that are either filled with ads or micro transactions that nickel and dime you to death).

 

It is hard for them to sell premium titles next to all these "free" games.

 

So, they are creating a subscription service, and are working with developers to create premium titles for this service, exclusively for play on Apple devices.

 

I guess if the service is successful, it could help them promote the Apple TV as a "low cost" console.

 

The thing this has is common with Amico is that, rather than the Ouya "field of dreams" model ("build it and they will come"), Apple and Intellivision are both working with developers to create a top line of games for their service or console.

 

On the other hand, Apple does not have the focus that Amico has on an affordable family friendly multiplayer console. They seem mostly aimed at hardcore gamers.

 

We'll see how it all unfolds...
