Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

I have news from the other thread: To say that the Switch and the PS4 have sexual and violent content is equivalent to hating those platforms.

And now I must leave, I need to reply to someone in a PS5 thread! I brought up the Amico and they dared to say... oh my gosh, you won't believe what they said. They said the Amico had no ray-tracing! Of course, I need to explain them how much they hate the Amico, it's really important. See you soon! 🤓

There were definitely 125 cartridges released.  That's not debateable.  A complete collection has all 125.

I hope I didn't come off as sounding too harsh. That wasn't my intention. I'm more excited for this system than I've been in a long time for a piece of hardware. I just hope the intended audience gives it a chance.

I was reading an article earlier today about how the Playstation 5 will cost Sony more than they expected to make them, and it was brought up that the Xbox 360 had a rough time with lots of hardware failures. This isn't something you would expect out of a premium system, but unexpected things can happen when electronics are involved, especially when everything is manufactured overseas these days. I believe that Tommy is focusing heavily on delivering a quality system. This is apparent from the improvements made to the controller screen. But when dealing with electronics, there's always a fear that something unexpected could cause issues that impact the system. With Xbox 360, they were able to recover from that. With a new system, I imagine any hardware faults could be a real hurdle to get through, just trying to break into the market.

I'm doing my best to stay optimistic though. All we can do is be supportive and hope the public gives it a chance.

Sometime when communication using text.(email, forums, text ext) How they are meant to come across, how when read get interpreted are completely taken in a different content. I think that's what happened to your concerns. With you last comment anything can happen with any new product hitting the market. Why concern yourself if's. I'm sure IE does have a plan if any issues arrive, that is usually put in place when developing a new product or in redesign or updating..  Like you said let's stay optimistic and supporting positive. Here's a quote that someone just sent me.  Love over Hate!!!! Wins every Time!!!!!

So true isn't it.  Cheers....

I feel like this thread has gotten away from the Q&A motif. 🤔

I think it's because Tommy has been so on top of answering all the questions that the thread has lost it's way.

Is that a challenge? 😂

Please buy multiple copies of the different limited editions so those of us that have a life can buy conveniently buy them from you 😃

Don't worry!  Only $9.99!  Although I may feel sorry for you if you want to try and collect all the different limited editions of the physical media.  :D

All joking aside, I hope that the Amico main website does a good job of announcing/listing these limited editions so that collectors (whether gotta-get-them-all or fans of certain IP) are aware of them.

Hey guys, have you ever been one of these people that buy a console day one and camp outside the shop before it opens? Do you know anyone who has done that?

With so many new consoles about to be released, I realize I have never bought one upon release, not even in the same year.

Tommy

Are there any 'classic' arcade racing type games in the vein of Pole Position, Outrun, or the Lotus Trilogy planned for the Amico?   I think the disc controller could work excellent with that kind of game.

This is the first console since the XBox 360 I have wanted to buy so really looking forward to October.  It's like being a kid again!

And if anything like Galaga makes an apperance....

Only consoles I have ever bought on launch day were Vita and PS4 (Amico doesn't count yet since we have yet to be able pay the full amount, so I don't consider it "bought" yet), and man do I regret the useless PS4. Not the Vita, though. Still use it daily as my alarm clock. Got both of them from Amazon Japan, so they just arrived in the mail.

Did it a couple years ago for the PSVR. I didnt camp out but  I was there in a line with about 10 guys waiting for an hour before Gamestop could begin handing them out to preorder customers. All older guys 40+.  So when people think gaming is a kid thing, they are very wrong.

With all the discussion about buying consoles on launch, and the valid concerns people have with buying Amico at launch, I wanted to throw in my two cents.

I typically don't buy a system on launch day, but in the last number of years, I've decided to give it a go.  Some of the ones I bought day one were:

Wii:  The hype surrounding it was exciting. It offered a gaming experience that harkened back to games of my youth. The games were colorful and designed around having fun and not so much their graphical fidelity. This appealed to me since I was getting burned out on all the drab brown shooters that seemed to be dominating other consoles. There were a number of features that were not there at launch, and some eventually came while others didn't. The Virtual Console slowly grew into something that was really cool, but the Channels that were talked about never really became anything more than a novelty. Still, with Wii Sport and Zelda, it was a fun time. Finding extra controllers was a huge pain, and really limited the ability to play two-player games in the early days. The Wii was a success from a sales perspective, but for games that captured the potential of the system, it fizzled out quickly.

PS Vita: I shouldn't have bought it, but in the end it turned out to be one of my favorite gaming experiences.  Again, a lot of the initial promises of the system didn't come out until much later, and by then people had written the console off. It would eventually be viewed as a failure with people complaining about the price of proprietary memory cards. It's still a great gaming console with tons of great games, but they're single player focused.

PS4:  Why did I buy this at launch?? It was powerful. It had potential, but when it was launched, it had but a fraction of the features that were promised. It still doesn't have many of the options that were initially promised. The games looked better, but it was really just a fancier PS3/XBOX360 with the same games even though they looked better. Features that made it different, such as using the camera or using a second screen to compliment gameplay were around for some of the first few games, but those features eventually fizzled out.  It became a critical and sales success, but there's really nothing special about it.

PS TV (VitaTV): I regret nothing. It was flawed, and never lived up to its full potential, but what it did, it did great. It was an absolute failure, but now because nobody bought it, it's somewhat of a collectors item and on eBay these things sell for 3x what they originally went for. It never got Netlfix, its UI was clunky for a home conole, but I have a love for the underdog and so I really love this tiny thing.

Amico: I ordered a Founders Edition, and only time will tell whether it will be worth it or not. The idea behind it is great. The team working on it seems top notch.  The games shown so far look really good.  I also have a fond nostalgia for Intellivision, and that does play a factor into my decision. There are still a lot of unknowns, and supposedly a lot will be revealed at E3.  But at this point, we actually know very little about the system. We know some basics and we know how it will look.  But we don't know what games will be available at launch. We don't know what the UI looks like. We don't know what it feels like to play with the new controllers. We don't know if the systems will have quality control problems like the Xbox360 did, and if it does, we don't know how IE will respond to something like that. First generation consoles are notorious for having issues that later revisions eventually correct.  But from what I've seen so far, I'm willing to invest $300 to find out if Amico is everything it's promised it's going to be. The best outcome is that it becomes a smash success and I was there from the very beginning. At the worst, it becomes a niche console that few people bought and my machine becomes a collector's item. I do hope it succeeds.

But since this is a Q/A thread, my question is: What features that have been promised won't actually be available at launch? The initial price has already started to creep up, but it seems like the price of games is remaining at below $10.  Will that change before launch? The trophy system probably won't be ready at launch.  Will physical media be ready at launch? I'm sure a bunch of the promised games won't be ready at launch, but is there anything else major that won't be ready on 10-10-2020?

Tommy is usually so quick to answer everything and there hasn't been a lot of real big news lately. I assume it's getting busy the later half of this month as they nail down the console and get it ready for production in March/April.

And someone just started bashing the Atari 7800 and 2600 vs the NES on a forum called Atari Age. What a troll.:D

I don't get all this Atari 7800 bashing. You don't need to hate the Atari 7800 to defend the NES. A debate about what the NES does should never mention the Atari 7800. I feel the need to downvote every single message who points out something negative about the Atari 7800 in a Q&A topic with Shigeru Miyamoto. 🤓

Back to the other offtopic, so nobody here has camped outside a shop on day one to buy a console, a game or other product? It's something I would never do, especially for a smartphone. 👨‍👩‍👦👨‍👩‍👧👨‍👨‍👦👨‍👨‍👧👩‍👩‍👦

I expected to have to wait in line at the bookstore when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows launched. I took the reservation thingy my grandparents gave me, walked to the bookstore since it was 2 minutes away from my house, went directly up to the register since the only person besides me in the whole store was the girl at the register, got my book, went home, and read the whole thing that day. Worst book in the whole series, but not bad. So no.

On topic, here's another question for Tommy. Does the Founders Edition golden ticket thing or the money on it expire? Maybe I want to save some of that money for later, depending on the launch titles.
