Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Recommended Posts

I also am really looking forward to the Amico. Intellivision was our family's first console.  As a family we played a lot of Skiing and Triple Action (mostly biplanes.) My sister and I played a lot of Snafu and Auto Racing. My dad and I played football. The game with my buddies was Baseball - tons and tons of baseball! My solo games were Astrosmash, Burgertime, B-17 Bomber, among others.

We are currently working on remakes of EVERY ONE OF THE GAMES YOU MENTIONED!  :)

5 of them we showed at E3.

Gameplay footage coming soon.

I’m going for July 22 mostly because I want it to come out sooner because I want to share with the people I have been talking up the Intellivision Amico to to get their opinions. Everyone I talk to hears about the console

This summer I'm creating a game with my 7-year-old daughter. She's drawing the artwork and calling the shots as to how the game will play, and I'm showing her how the coding works. The main thing about the gameplay she's designing is that it's a no-pressure situation. No time limits, no 3 lives. It's really just like a beautiful interactive sandbox environment where you can explore and do things that will have contextual responses that are cool and surprising. I just wanted to throw that out there - sure there are lots of us who cut our teeth on punishingly difficult arcade games that were designed to give us a couple of minutes of fun and get those quarters, and still love that kind of experience. But there are probably a lot of people, maybe especially young kids, who aren't into that kind of intense, somewhat stressful kind of challenging fun. So it would be cool for some games to have a sandbox mode like that.

Two examples of existing games that my daughter has liked: the very beginning of Ecco the Dolphin, where you can spend as much time as you like swimming, jumping, and talking to the other dolphins, before starting the rest of the game. And the training modes in fighting games, where there's no pressure and you can just practice different inputs and see what moves the characters do.

I LOVE this!!  And I think both you & your daughter are going to be VERY happy when you see a certain thing in our next gameplay trailer.  :D

Exactly!!  Me & my dad used to play Intellivision Baseball, Hockey & Football all the time.  There isn't a single modern sports game on any system that he'll play with me anymore because the controllers are all too complex (yes... including the Switch!  I tried.)   :)

We are taking the old approach to all of our sports games.  The more simple and fun... the better!

Yes it will be cool.

I remember the first time I was playing modern sports, with real name players, I was really disliking that. I thought it was unfair ! lol

We are all now accustomed to have better teams than others, better players than others.

It's now common, and we have to play that way. Could be very cool to only have the essence of the game. Hit the ball, run, pass.

Career mode is fun, but just for one player. Also it's taking a lot of time that we don't necessary have. I prefer a long game like FF7 remake or a zelda game.

Sports games should be short, fun and addictive. I am really looking forward for this trailer. :)

We will probably see happy people playing those games ! ?

Another guess game people : Choose 10 games you think we will see in this trailer. Let's see who will have the most correct answers and points !

First selection 10 points, second selection 9 points ...      10th selection 1 point.

So order's important !

1- Astrosmash

2- Baseball

3- Burgertime

4- Football

5- Snafu

6- Horse racing

7- Black jack (card game)

8- Moon Patrol

9- Night Stalker

10- Tennis

Thank you. Maybe it will help us while we wait for more news from Intellivision Entertainement. :)

They talked about showing missile command at E3.  So I'd be surprised if that's not in the trailer.

1.  Although our trailer said $2.99 - $7.99, we decided that DIGITAL DOWNLOAD games will launch between $2.99 - $9.99.  Most games will probably be in the $5.99 - $9.99 spectrum.  Does this mean we will never have a game over $9.99?  We're not sure yet.  We are open to the idea, but it would need to be a pretty epic experience and idea to get us off the $9.99 or less digital download price range.  For folks who don't see how a developer would EVER do something like that (especially when it's an exclusive) doesn't understand how game development and budgets work (or the current state of the industry).  If Intellivision spends $200,000 to create a game that sells for $9.99 that means that we only need to sell 20,000 units before a royalty or percentage can start being paid to a developer.  20,000 units is very obtainable.  :)  Also keep in mind that the $9.99 or lower price are ONLY the DIGITAL versions.  That's all I'm going to say about that for now.  :)

Hi Tommy,

I know you have nothing more to say on this for now but I have to ask anyway.  Will we be seeing physical releases for the Amico?  I'm trying to get my info straight and the idea that I can get a game pack at retail is super exciting.  Cart/card slot for the system seems like a dream I had years ago for a Flashback system.  I would love to see that on the Amico!

I wish you continued success with the development and rollout of the system.  You can count on me for a system pre-order (or day one purchase) on 10-10-2020!

Hi Joey!,

YES!  I can confirm that we will have physical media!  I just can't comment on the "type" right now as we are still in the patent process.  Trust me... it's SUPER COOL!!  :)

Although we won't be putting a cartridge slot on the new machine (I could and would if it was super cheap... but it's actually quite expensive) but if a 3rd party person wants to do a cart slot as an "add-on" that hooks up USB... I think that would be super cool and we would totally support it if it passes our quality control, licensing, etc.

But if you love carts... we have a nice surprise coming next year when we make some announcements.  :D

Sorry I can't tell you more at this time but hopefully the info I gave is better than nothing.

Thanks for your support!

This is more exciting news than I expected to hear!

I love collecting and this will only add to the fun!  Of course, adding digital copies is nice but physical is always the thing that I gravitate towards.

Thanks for the info!

WILD SPECULATION TIME!

You mentioned RFID before and the "tapping" of controllers to other consoles to take your games on the go. So that got me speculating: maybe your physical media is something like a small-ish physical card with an RFID inside that does pairing with a given console/account to register initial ownership of the game. And maybe you could "unpair" it later on if you wanted to sell that physical copy. That would be wild stuff.

Yes!  This is my feeling as well.  I LOVE collecting things.  Look at one of the big reasons this entire forum and website exists!  A lot is based around collecting!  Imagine how crappy it would be if there were never any variants, Intellivision carts or boxes to collect, etc.  We're taking care of that... but with an entirely new concept that people are gonna freak out over.  I can tell you that every super major big box retailer is super excited for what we're doing.

:)

You gotta keep the Snafu theme music (if at all possible.) It's been over 30 years since I've played that game and can still hear the music in my mind!

OH HELL YES!!!  But wait til you hear the new 21st Century remixes as well!!

One of the super fun things I've been doing is using a lot of the original Intellivision sound effects and mixing them into new sound design I've been doing.

I can absolutely 100% guarantee one thing about Amico... all the games are going to SOUND amazing!!!!

:D

Awesome! Kinda figured that the audio is gonna rock! As a musician, the audio is an important aspect to me. Nothing better than a great track that compliments the gameplay.
