Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

The amico controller app for ios/android I presume.  I think the lower right image was posted by Tommy T, somewhere.  I imagine there are different themes.

It’s a device, not an app, and it’s not on a phone, it is on something that looks like an amico-like controller but thicker than expected. I mean, I’m not really sure what is meant by iOS/Android app when it is just a virtual keyboard.

In case everyone missed it on social media today.  btw...  Kinda funny that Atari is supposed to be shipping in 4 or 5 months and have shown ZERO gameplay footage.  We're almost a year later and will be showcasing 17 original and exclusive games (including 3 Atari ones!)  :)

Announcement:
In exactly 2 weeks from today on Monday, August 19th we'll be releasing our new Intellivision Amico trailer at gamescom in Germany. The biggest video game convention in the world! The trailer will not only be showing the actual hardware/machine, but also short clips from 17 of our exclusive games! Can't wait for everyone to check it out!

It actually is an app and that is a mobile device!  That is what the Vintage/Classic skin for the Amico mobile controller app is going to look like.  Impressive huh!  Looks photo-realistic.  It's so cool!!  Graphically the disc spins as well!  :)

We've been playing with the mobile app hooked up to the machine for about 6 months now.

Okay, so the app is on the phone and the phone is in a skin so you can you it like a standard amico controller?

Does this require an edge-to-edge screen or will it work with iPhone 6 and 7? Does look cool.

No... the phone isn't in a skin.  The "skin" is an all digital graphic.  When you download the app you'll be able to choose different colors of the controller... the one I showed last year is the "vintage/classic" skin of the original Intellivision.

Sorry for the confusion.

I’m sure this is all perfectly normal, but it is strange to my primitive mind. The mobile controllers are different from the controllers that come with the amico? I thought you got the two controllers with the amico  and then people could download the app to their phone for extra controllers...or is this a third option to those two. Or is it that the ones with the amico don’t have mobile so these mobile controllers will be more flexible/featured than the ones that come with the amico? Thanks.

Mobile device is the phone. Because the phones don't have same buttons it will probably have differences in the setup of the controller.

Okay, I can see it now. The darkness was obscuring details and throwing off perspective. It was clearer once I blew up the picture up on my pc monitor. The bottom of the phone looked like the thickness of the controller and I thought it looked much thicker than any phone or amico controller.

I had to do the same thing. I thought it had a cover on it.

Hows the current input lag using the mobile app vs the controller? I would expect the controllers would give other players a bit of a advantage.

No difference really.  They are both running off the same wi-fi/bluetooth within the system.  Some folks actually like the phones better for some games because the screen is expensive glass.

We still have a BIG secret to reveal about mobile.  Won't be until next summer though.  Patents still pending.  :)

Probably not recommended for action games anyway.  And not because of any lag but because of the interface.

Cool things I was just thinking about: A blu tooth receiver ala 8bitdo for the original intellivisions for the Amico controllers. A PC app to let you use the controllers with jzintv. Either of these a possibility? Maybe mentioned before?

This is awesome! The Bluetooth receiver for the original would still be cool as most of the Elektronite games cannot be played on jzintv, only the console.

Isn't that because the carts are protected to prevent dumping (not sure on that - just what I heard)? I would encourage Elektronite to contact Intellivision and see if they could offer their games in the OG section of the store. This could greatly expand the number of customers reachable and with no carts and overlays to pay for - win, win for everyone.

Yeah. I have my doubts we would be able to use an sd or usb card even for ROMS off of the Intellivision Lives/Rocks CDs on the Amiga due to piracy concerns, so I’m not sure if they will sell the ROMS for jzintv on the Amiga as a bundle for download or what. Really hoping it won’t be like 3.99 a game for all 125 games plus unreleased = like $550, but maybe 1-3 bundles for $10-$20 each at most.

Hopefully, for those of us that already own many Intellivision homebrews, we can either use the controllers on the original Intellivision or we can buy the Amiga versions for $8-10 each.

Last I heard final pricing wasn't decided but for most original Intellivision owned ROMs they would be sold in bundles for about 50 cents per game (so maybe 10 games for $5) or something close to that. For any 3rd party games they might have to kick that up a bit to pay for the rights and a cut to them. Of course for a more modern ROM they might sell an Elektronite game alone for $5 or $8 which if you remove actual cart cost and overlay printing is probably as much or more as they net currently. Yes probably very unlikely you will be able to sideload anything. After all the games are very reasonably priced anyway and they aren't really making an generic emulation box but a real console which are always pretty closed in nature because they depend on software sales as part of the margin of the actual hardware (in other words they don't make much on the hardware but make it up in software sales).

Lot‘s of Spanish girlfriends instead of Italian friends.

I was a bit confused at first because I used 20 years ago my Amiga with a Mac emulator to play Intellivision roms. ;)

Using an Amiga as a Mac as an Intellivision - that is some Inception level of emulation.

Was also an Amiga guy but still had my Intellivision at that point so no need for emulation - but probably won't have thought of going that far however.

My memory mislead me a bit. I used my Amiga with the Mac emulator to use the Intellicart with it.  :) Btw. this was a 68060/50MHZ Amiga.

This is what I like least about cell phone games. Will Amico be trying to collect information from its console/phone controllers?
