The funny thing about the super hard core crowd is that they think everything is about them.  Many of them don't even seem to realize there are entire industries built around casual players who never touch an xbox or ps4.

So true.

too mature
And by mature, of course you mean "blood, boobs, and swearing" which is, of course, juvenile.

There were more actual mature games in the 80s - SSI's "war sims," submarine simulators, etc.  These were games that required thought and strategy.

I guess I'm weird my 2 favorite controllers back in the day were the Intellivision disc and the Atari 5200 and it was only because of the internet I found out I was supposed to hate them

Controlling the Chef in Burger Time was absolutely perfect with the disc....ever play Burger Time on the NES or Colecovision? The control of the chef is terrible on both consoles

Hey Tommy, for those of us that are aspiring homebrew developers, can I ask what languages will Amico support?  I am assuming Assembly of some flavor and C / C++?  Can you share if any other languages will be supported? (Java, Python)?

The only reason I ask as I would like to know the best languages to brush up / learn.

Is this information you can share at this time?

Didn't he say somewhere upthread that some of the games were being written in Unity?

At any rate, Python is a scripting language, not a programming language. Your tools or scripts might use it, but I imagine only if it's part of your own toolchain.

Game consoles don't use Java. It's too inefficient runtime. (But oddly C# suffers from many of the same problems, but Unity is built upon it all the same.)

I don't have any special insight mind you, aside from other consoles I've coded for. But we've already been told this is not like other consoles, so who knows.

This might help you program for it, if you so wish to. https://www.humblebundle.com/software/learn-game-development-software?hmb_source=navbar&hmb_medium=product_tile&hmb_campaign=tile_index_4

Love this article (best headline ever!) and I feel the same way... which is partly why Amico was created in the first place. And I know a LOT of folks who feel the same.  Looking forward to shaking up the industry!

Impossible Mission (I can't even imagine what this would be like with 4 players playing at once assisting / assassinating each other.

Like a mix between Mission Impossible and The Goonies? Now that's something I'd like to see!

90% of the games are being done in Unity.  We give a white paper to our developers that helps them to optimize Unity for our chipset.  It's a really great and helpful source.  We provide full 100% support in many different parts of development.  Our team is there every step of the way if needed.  A few developers just ported their own internal engine over to Amico.  Written in C.

Learning Unity with Assembly/C sensibilities is a deadly and successful combo for Amico!

:)

Hope that helps.

That was a fun read past video games have shown you can have video games with violence that isn’t all blood and guts. For some reason that’s the aspect that has been focused on so much and there are tons of games that are fun without the blood and gore but still an element of violence like Night Stalker a chilling game with a gun but not focused on gore but on strategy or Mario where you defeat enemies by jumping on their heads or shooting them with fireballs. If Bugs Bunny and gang taught me anything as a kid it’s that violence can be in some media in a child like fun way that’s not scary or gory games I feel should have focused on fun more than real when it comes to violence and that is another reason I look forward to Amico a return to a focus on fun

The article above reminds me of something else I miss about today's gaming industry; and that's the simpler, more memorable game names. If a game like Burgertime was created today, it would almost certainly be called something like Nightmare Diner. Or Burger Toss Happy Joy. Or Yum Yum Spirit Lunch.

realize things can get lost in translation, even with a handful of notable titles from BITD (Donkey Kong comes to mind, but famously fits), but am hoping Amico brings back some "normalcy" to the naming of games. Less silliness that way anyway. Imagine what some of these others would be called today:

Auto Racing - Super Zero Wing

Armor Battle - Gowcast Warrior

Frog Bog - Pad Duel Amphib

Night Stalker - Hero Midnight Razor

Shark! Shark! - Fishy Chomper

Astrosmash - Galaxy Fall X

Space Armada - Endless Rein

Star Strike - Trenchdeath Jog

Utopia - Super Island Joy Debaser Perfection

Horse Racing - Mega Equine Gambler

Las Vegas Poker & Blackjack - Battle Card Mama

Dig Dug - Garden Pest POP!

Space Hawk - Bubble Boy

Snafu - Sneaky Snakes

Sewer Sam - Mighty Dung Ho: Septic Captain

Frogger - Super Mobile Toady Hop

Defender - Planet Savior Extra Hero Zen No

🤣

Hahaha!  Great stuff.

I 100% agree.  It's funny, we were having a similar discussion about this a few months ago.  I decided to keep everything super simple.  Just call it what it is and put the Intellivision or Amico name in front of it to distinguish it from the originals or everything else out there.  So we're going to call things Intellivision Skiing, Intellivision Bowling or Amico Skiing, Amico Bowling, etc.  Like Wii Sport or Wii Fit did.  Keep in simple!

Super Pro Skiing 2020 Gold Medal Edition basically scares the crap out of non-gamers.

:)

Don't forget, you need a subtitle to set yourself up for the sequel!  No game (or movie or fiction book) could possibly released as an individual, independent work these days...

Actually, there is a Zero Wing. It's a Mega Drive side scrolling Thunder Force type shooter from the early 90s. Was only released in Japan & Europe.

It's also famous for the joke/meme "All Your Base Are Belong To Us-Someone Set Us Up The Bomb" bad translation.

And I dunno... Shark Shark's copycat in the oughts was Feeding Frenzy. I kinda like that name.

Anyhow. My first time posting. Hi Everyone!
