Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

That is totally accurate for one persons price to value equation. The problem is projecting this assumption on others. If you have ever suffered through price elasticity or demand curves in economics (I inflicted those onto many a student in a former life of cruelty as a Eco/Fin instructor) the whole point of those is that it is a range of values shown as a curve. Different consumers perceive value completely differently, for example a family with 2 kids may see a console with 6 games and two controllers as more of a $125 purchase per child than say a $250 purchase, so it may fit their Christmas gift budget of $150 per kid, while the Switch doesn’t. Also maybe Mary being able to stay a bit active by playing Corn Hole inside during a Chicago winter is a lot more appealing to her than Susan who lives in Florida, even if she is equally Corn Hole obsessed (well that didn’t sound right). Anyway what is the demand curve for the Amico? Nobody really knows but Tommy has done focus groups which is about the best way to get an early indication. Also there is some demand at $250 and higher prices with the pre-orders (and no real advertising to boot). Would $199 be better for adoption assuming the same product? Sure, but be careful about projecting personal price/value considerations (for or against) on Amico. One person does not a market make.

As someone who has a degree in a Economics let me thank you for bringing up some horrible memories 😂

Cant wait to see the Baseball reveal. Loved Intellivision Baseball, but my absolute favorite video Baseball Game was Gamestar Star League.  Listening to the tape drive load for 20 minutes while it loaded was worth it. LOVED this game. When it comes to sports games, its all about the gameplay, it really is.

Does anyone know how to contact Intellivision customer support? Two weeks ago I placed an order for the Amico T-shirt. Haven’t heard a peep from them since. Tried contacting them via their web site twice. No response

Hi!,

The merchandise is made to order by Printful.com  Please contact them and they should be able to help you out.  They told us they are backed up because of corona... but they would have the best answer to your exact order.

Thanks and sorry for the delay.

Maybe it will come out for the AtariVCS?  Although you may need to wait for that as well.

:D

So... hey everybody!

It feels like I might have wandered into the middle of something... a touch shy of eternal, as this tangent may go.

I'm no good at these things, so I propose a new topic.

Is anyone else excited about the upcoming announcement for Baseball? Tommy mentioned it's coming in the next couple weeks. Personally, it'll probably be my first purchase!

Baseball was life for a younger me. Things like eating and sleeping were fine, mind you, but they weren't Ozzie Smith bare-handing a grounder off glorified cement!

Baseball video games were mandatory rainy-day playing for my brother and I. Also, RBI 3 was the first time I'd gotten my dad so flustered he (half-jokingly, I assure you) accused me of cheating!

Again, I'm really pumped for this, and can't wait to see it in action. Anyone else with me? If not, then perhaps another game's got you interested? What titles are you all waiting to hear more on?

And, as the price goes, everyone do as you feel is right. I'm sure I'll see mostly all of you on the global leader boards (when they come available), more than a few places higher than myself, in due time.

Absolutely! I suspect we’ll be talking about this quite a bit more in the next few weeks as it sounds like Tommy will be making an announcement on Baseball soon. Baseball is very close to the top of my Amico wish list 👍🏻

Same here! Hope many of these games will be multiplayer over the 'net at some point. Couch potato co-op is fine and dandy of course, but let's be real. Most of *us* don't live near each other...

This is one of the things I’m most looking forward to at future PRGE conventions. Inty and Amico nerdfests at our booths. 😂

24 MEGA POWER! I should probably note that the Genesis/Mega Drive can support up to 32 megabit games, so this is a reasonably large game. There is a new cart in development that will allow the console to exceed that limit (for Demons of Asteborg, which will be the largest cart for the system when it's released). UNLIMITED BLAST PROCESSING!!!!!!!

I miss when game boxes talked about their parallax scrolling and had their mega power on the box art. Neo Geo was really great about this, but even that has a few games without it. Everyone knows that more mega power = better game... right?

Woodgrain was about 70% of the orders!  Black next, followed by white.

Interesting the higher price point seemed to be a non-factor, at least amongst this demographic anyway.  Very promising!

When someone blatantly and outright begins to attack you, your product, what you do, and who you are in multiple outlets and social media feeds, that's when you need to step in.

Likewise, if these people that are blatantly and openly calling on their followers to hate on the same things they do, it's almost a social media "war." Then when you start insulting other Youtubers (Rich from Reviewtech) you just start firing in all directions and someone either needs to step in and shut that down or at least openly call them out to address the issues. Tommy has done this several times.

It's like seeing a really bad weed in your yard. That weed will multiply. Eventually, it may snuff out all the other plants in the yard or your grass, or you can poison the weed or pull the weed where it grows. It may grow back, there may still be roots, and all the damage it did to the yard will remain unless you try to repair it and heal it. But there's also some clovers - those ARE weeds, but they're more acceptable. They don't harm anything. The grass goes on.

So there's always two sides to the coin. Sit there and let it stew, or step up and defend yourself. And never let them try to use your "title" against you which has been done over and over. The whole argument that someone who has no title is allowed to act however they want, whenever they want, but someone with a title is beholden to that title and must never act certain ways - it's just a good way to artificially handicap someone because you deny them the entry to properly defend themselves from you.

Those are the kind of people who have to be dealt with, sooner, rather than later, because they have a small following and have a mission to sabotage everything you're doing with their small following. And when your company is also small and growing, that's never a good thing.

not saying you shouldn't step in and defend yourself. there comes a time when we must all stand up and fight for what we believe in. what i'm saying is that you shouldn't degrade yourself into becoming like the very enemy that you're seeking to destroy. it's never a good thing to look in the mirror only to see your adversary staring right back at you. fighting fire with fire only causes greater harm and destruction, and will ultimately be unprofitable and counterproductive to your cause in the end.

Played that one for hours too. Also played a lot of Earl Weaver Baseball. Don't recall which system I played those on. My best guess is Atari 400/800 and the Commodore Amiga.

I know many people here know, but Earl Weaver Baseball (Amiga, Apple II, DOS) was made by Don Daglow and Eddie Dombrower.  Don Daglow is a Blue Sky Ranger who made Utopia and World Series Baseball and oversaw the development of many other Intellivision games. Eddie Dombrower also worked on World Series Baseball and then on Earl Weaver with Don.  Many of the innovations they made on World Series Baseball (especially in stats and simulation) were carried over to Earl Weaver Baseball which became a big hit for EA.

The 24 MEGS was mostly my fault!  (true story).

Me & Dave Perry had convinced the powers to be that if we had more cart space I could do a lot of great audio and I even promised and guaranteed that I'd win AUDIO OF THE YEAR AWARD if they gave us the extra space.

I didn't let them down (see 1994).

Ok so almost every classic console has a version of Klax and I think a mega 8 player Klax would be epic. And really could have alot of different new ideas implemented.  Kind of like how the new breakout was changed. By the way Tommy the breakout you guys developed is the main reason I wanted the Amico.  Breakout is one of my all time favorite games. Still play a version on my microvision.
