Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Here's an in depth interview I did earlier this week about Amico! One of the hosts was talking about it a few weeks ago but was a bit cautious about it (understandable). So I reached out on Twitter to see if we could talk about it. Was I able to convince her otherwise and put her fears to rest? Take a listen to find out! :)

What an amazing conversation really brings the goal of Amico to light in a beautiful way

Now on the ARGCast: tearful moment as a formerly skeptical woman gamer suddenly realizes that she might be able to once play games with her mother on the Amico.

Soon on CUPodcast: Tommy Tallarico makes woman cry after she criticized the Amico. ;)

Seriously though - great interview.

almost all the videos on youtube have been very positive and people are really excited about the Amico..well except the guy that commented on your backround decor which he liked but came off very sarcastic as well as the rest of his channel of big 3 fanboys...nevermind gotta concentrate on the positive! lol

I saw that video. I subscribe to his channel. He is a Nintendo fanboy, and his usual habit is to downplay everything else. To give benefit of the doubt, he didn't do his homework on it. I'm a nobody and I know the price point of the Amico, and what market it's going after. But I really smelled deliberate FUD from that video of his. It just oozed smarminess and gatekeeping (which I've noticed before). Even if I'm wrong, shouldn't any Reviewer at least look on Intellivision's home page to find the price point before they start filming?

That said, He would "Love to be proven wrong!" 🙄

He and his buddy made a follow up video. He doubled down on his "assessment". Still thinks this is crowdfunded.

No, checking your facts prior to tossing your opinion is NOT a requirement of this news generation.  It's just about getting subscribers and click bait.  Hence they all start off with "if you like what you see... Click subscribe" instead of saying it at the end.

Ever hear the statement: "Be sure brain is engaged before putting mouth into gear".

Fits really well with these guys

Yep, first video's argument was that at $300 it was way overpriced 🙄. At this point I think there are a handful of sites that are just looking to be the "Anti Amico" so they can gather in those sweet haterade views during the next 14 months and then never mention it again. I'm sure if they are ever pressed they will say "I just said they had something to prove before anyone would one buy it", not mentioning that they accused the Amico of being a total scam and Tommy of enjoying kicking puppies & evicting orphans over the course of 20 videos. Gee that sounds like easy money, I wonder if AmicoSucks.com is taken yet. ;)

As I posted elsewhere - Honestly not the first time they , especially Pat, just does not "get" or appreciate anything Pre-NES, he is not into it so he cannot envision anyone appreciating it, even when he does seem at times to be into something before NES it is always in a dismissive or cynical way.

These two idiots look as if they haven't bathed in weeks.  The guy with the 'beard' with what looks like he can't even grow one has the 'I'm smarter than the world' Millennial attitude in full effect... the other guy looks like one of those guys that simply hasn't seen what the outside of his front door looks like in 5 maybe 10 years.... and I'll be the first to say, it's one thing to have an opinion, it's another to stand up and talk a whole lotta shit based on something you are just speculating about... wearing a comic-book t-shirt and weighing 50lbs... wet.

I take an assessment from two asses like this with a large grain of salt that weighs more than both of them...

I found only one video in French after the new teaser and it was kind of bad. The guy wasn't too dismissive of the console, but he was still comparing it to a "mini" console. In the comment section, a few comments were moderately positive, but the majority said it was too expensive for a flashback kind of console. I kind of spammed the comment section repeating that it was not a flashback, but it's clear there is a lot of misunderstanding in people's minds.

In many ways the Amico is the “anti console, console” almost everything about it is different. To me that is  great news because I see little or nothing out there for causal gamers and families that isn’t infected by the ills of the gaming industry.

That being said unless you really dive into what it is about everyone just tries to box it into some form of existing console that halfway makes sense to them. This is true marketing problem for IE especially when it comes to the gaming media. I highly suspect that is why Tommy is spending a lot of his pre-launch time working on correcting influencers.

LOL.  I had to stop watching after a couple minutes. I just could not stomach those guys. They really have no clue what they’re talking about, it’s just laughable. They aren’t even worth the time to listen to. I can’t wait for the Amico to prove all the doubters wrong.

Before seeing it I read some of the comments below the video and it was enough to understand that those two would not have spoken of Amico with knowledge of the facts.

Honestly, I didn't have the strength to see yet another disparaging video "because it makes visuals"...

Can someone please just say who those two guys are?  I refuse to click on the links as I don't want to give them any kind of a analytical boost.

Tommy, that podcast interview was incredible and really sold me on it. I was previously pretty blah about the whole thing, saw the latest commercial, got a bit more excited, heard the podcast and now I don't just want one, I want the SDK now!  Four player Moon Patrol where the other players who are waiting their turn to be the buggy control the aliens instead?  Genius!  But I think that the one thing that sets you apart and needs to be emphasized in the advertising is the handicapping system.  Holy crap what an ace-in-the-hole.  No wonder that Candace was crying...being able to play with your family like that is more powerful than I previously imagined and I can't wait to try it with my own family.  PS not kidding about the SDK...how can I get it?

This interview made me realize that Intellivision's commitment to social gaming was real and not just a marketing gimmick. It made me realize Tommy Tallarico was genuine. So people can call me a wimp all they want, but I was also tearing up.

When I was a kid, I remember my parents were playing card games with their friends every Saturday. Sometimes, they would be playing from 4 pm up until 2 in the morning (with a break for supper). They rarely missed a Saturday.

The rise of personal entertainment and telecommunication slowly put an end to this. The Internet was the final nail in the coffin. My mother still play card games or other games like Scrabble... with her tablet.

We now live in a very strange world where we constantly communicate with more people than ever, yet we feel more isolated than ever. Technology and modern values are dehumanizing us. This truly sucks. We need real human contact. We need to socialize with "real" people. In particular, we need strong family ties.

So yes, human needs are powerful things indeed.

Really, you have to bring their appearance into play?  Disagreeing with their opinions is one thing, but name calling and attacking their personal appearance is childish and weakens any legitimate arguments you may have.  I don't want to see this here, so stay on topic and don't resort to elementary school levels of attacks.

Thank you,

Short version: they are two guys, Pat the NES Punk and Ian, with 1/4 million subscribers on YouTube who discuss retro games and consoles on YouTube.  In the videos and audio, Pat usually takes the lead in the discussions while Ian is backup.  Pat typically acts more emotionally while Ian typically acts more rational as Pat's counter-balance.  Unfortunately, Pat often states things as "facts" but gets them wrong or conveniently ignores facts.  Ian sometimes corrects Pat but sometimes does not.  They have a poor track record with accuracy on pre-NES consoles.  When they get called out on it, they fall back to "hey, we're just stating opinions".  It's not 100% clear whether the inaccuracy is part of a deliberate shtick act (like how Angry Video Game Nerd is an entertainment persona with some interesting history thrown in, who I enjoy watching) or if they are trying to be factual but just doing a bad job at it.

I mostly try to ignore watching their videos.  Whenever I get sucked into watching one, I am always disappointed.

It's too bad since they have the potential to supply so many people in the retro community with accurate information, even if the facts were negative towards the Amico or pre-NES consoles.  Even negative feedback on the Amico could theoretically help make it an even better console before it is released (though I feel Tommy and others have already done deep research and worked hard to make the Amico as good as possible).

You think back to investigative journalism in the gaming industry in the 80s and 90s and then the off-the-cuff commentary that began with the internet feeds and youtube personalities. There is very little on the internet reliable anymore. It's like a lot of these top ten product lists in the internet mags that are obviously something someone googled for 30 minutes and wrote an article.

That's what you get when untrained people play pseudo journalist and get revenue from random ad placement or clicks. Random information and pseudo accuracy.

Well... I'm man enough to admit when I'm wrong or I've gone too far and I did.  I'm sorry.  I was wrong and will use better judgement in the future.  Can't say enough about the passion I have for the Inty, as I've been fixing them and selling them, collecting them and doing what I can to help others with the same for over 20 years... maybe more ... But that's no excuse.  Thanks for calling me out.  I'll be more refined in my choices in the future.

Still doesn't change my opinion on thier video, but I should have used better  wording and attitude/judgement as you pointed out.

I apologize to you and the community.
