Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

I *think* the buttons might be useful on the controller to give you tactile positions for the screen - but considering it is more of a fixed, known quantity I don’t know if you would really need it. Muscle memory would kick in pretty quick. The buttons and disk are really for phones which may vary in size and and shape and you may need more help adapting to the control surface. At least that is my take - buttons for both theoretically but in reality 90%+ the buttons and 100% the disc are just for phones.

Ok that makes sense. I want the Best possible controllers so I will be buying at least 8 and probably 2 of each color. But it’s a great idea for the average consumer that would not want to buy multiple controllers.

Yeah I am defiantly buying at least two more controllers and then shouldn’t have to dip into cell phone territory except at maybe Thanksgiving or something. Nice little add on to the system for the occasional “controller overload” situation though.

Ah!  Thanks!

the chat room was brutal last night...i think that Psycho who looks like he's recording from a padded cell must have been on about 5 accounts

there was one hater who was pretty brutal all night who's youtube channel had a link to a pirated copy of windows stored on his google drive (reported) :)

Yes the original controllers will always be much better, but using your phone is a great option to have !!

Hi!,

No, at this point we are only going to offer the Vintage Woodgrain through us and not to retail (never say never though I guess... if a big retailer gave us an amazing offer I wouldn't be against it).  :)   But as of right now, the only way will be through us direct.

BUT... we are currently running our direct VIP program on one of our partner sites.  It's currently on Fig.co.   So you can get one for a limited time there!

Thanks, got my pre-order in.

It isn't really going to be for a lot of games for the Amico controller as the current controller works totally great... I think they will mostly be used for the Amico app on mobile devices.  For example... for Moon Patrol I much prefer just tapping half the screen to jump and half the screen to fire (or the side buttons)... but some may prefer buttons.

The idea behind using them on the actual Amico controller just gives yet more super cool ways to configure or play if you'd like.

This leads me to a question of whether the attachable buttons will have an analog option, like a thumbstick or the "wiggle pads" on the 3DS. Personally, I've always felt like thumbsticks were missing something - like the old PC analog joysticks better - and have done little with a 3DS (never owned 2DS or 3DS), so, I'm not really personally invested, but curious.

Hi Tommy, I hope you are having a fantastic day!😊

I was just curious,I looked at the Fig site and it said that 12,300 VIP editions have been preordered.

That is the overall number so far,not just the number ordered from that website, correct?

Either way obviously that is an outstanding amount, congrats!👍

I finally finished the 4 hour long mega-interview with Rich. I think at this point, I could do at least a three hour interview and answer all the questions. They seem to be the same questions that come up over and over again.

That being said, I think I finally figured out what some "hard" questions are that haven't been asked yet and I would be curious as to what the answers are.  Or maybe they're too hard. I kind of like this forum being optimistic and positive.

But Tommy, if you want the hard questions, let me know. ;)

Tommy did a post about a couple of pages ago to clarify that is the *total* preorders and not new just on Fig. Nice that investments (not orders) are over $50,000 so far - and that is before Fig.co has pushed it in their ad campaign. Every $100,000 or so into the IE coffers is another game in the pipeline or several game IPs licensed - all good stuff for us and future sales of the Amico :).

If your controller is dead and you forget to charge the controller can you play games with the controller plugged in with, like, a 6 foot usb cable?

Yeah - but remember there's two controllers. So if ones about to die you can pick up the second one. Unless you've got two people playing for 5-6 hours straight.

Previously confirmed. Assume it would be like a dead phone, and need to get enough initial charge to fire up, than assume you would be good. USB-C has higher wattage and should be more than enough to power while using.

I've asked this before.  I'm not sure what the "hard" questions are that people aren't asking. I mean, I could think of uncomfortable questions to ask, but not really hard.  The people who complain that the hard questions aren't being asked are just the people who don't get Amico or don't want one.

The "hard questions" thing is a mystery to me, too.  I think there's a perception that, for an interview to be "good," the interviewer must at some point shout down the interviewee and jump down their throat and harangue them over something, or else it's just a softball interview or an "infomercial."  But there has to be a reason for them to do that, and I can't imagine what that reason would be when it comes to the Amico.  What "hard questions" are there at this point that haven't already been addressed, usually multiple times, both here and elsewhere?  Should these interviewers behave like hard-hitting attack dogs all the time just because they're "supposed" to?  That seems so phony to me.

My impression is that the people who shout the loudest about being "allowed" to "express their opinions" or "ask the hard questions"—like some of the troublemakers we've had here—are often the ones who have the least to say when they're finally given the opportunity to "put up or shut up."  I think they just enjoy being disagreeable because they somehow equate that with being "independent," but again, it's all a phony affectation.  They're ultimately not interested in hearing the answers to their "hard questions," because if those questions were to be answered satisfactorily, they might not have a motivation to be so disagreeable anymore ... until they find some other "hard questions" to latch onto.

Rich actually took the time to tell the chat that he wasn't sure what they wanted him to do. He actually said "I'm not going to scream at him and interrupt him when he's talking. No one does that." or something along those lines.

The chat had mostly hardcore gamers who live deep inside a bubble and believe very strongly that they're right and only see things from an Xbox/Playstation perspective. There's no interest in their minds for anything else. The number of times I hear "can I just connect a regular controller" speaks volumes.

This week someone asked what games we would like to see on Amico someday. Unfortunately, I did not find the quote.

Here is my list and why.

Lock 'N' Chase :

My friends were playing Pac Man, but I only had eyes for Lock 'N' Chase.
Having the ability to close doors and to synchronize our run to collect money at the center was very interesting.
I also couldn't wait to go to the next level to see what special item would appear !
If this game is reimagined for Amico, I would like to have several levels and different mazes ! :)

This game could easily be played with 5 players in versus mode. 4 police officers and the thief !

(I just had a bunch of ideas for this game, but I'll spare you the details. I will keep them for myself and see what I can do with them in a concrete way ... )

Horse Racing :

I tried to ask a question yesterday , but with the number of people that was on the chat, it went unnoticed. lol
I would have liked to know if someone is working on it now. This game is very special for me. I liked this game so much, that it become my end of year project in "computer science" in the middle of the 80s.
I had chosen to program a horse racing simulator with fairly complex probabilities ... so much that I didn’t had time to finish my project! lol

As I mentioned before, what I liked the most about Horse Racing was trying to guess who was going to win the race, not controlling the horse to win it ! :)

Pitfall ! :

I have never been able to play as much as I wanted !
Since I had intellivision, I had to go to a friend's house to play Pitfall ! (I did not know it was also on Intellivision. When it was ? Same year as Atari or much later ?)
As it is a game for a single player, I did not control the character long enough for my taste !

I would have taken several sheets of paper to note all the possible shortcuts, etc.

So this game must absolutely come to Amico to finally allow me to be able to play at my own pace and for a long time.
In addition there will be improved graphics and exceptional music and sound effects !!

Boxing (With Rocky's and Creed's license) :

I want a career mode in the world of Rocky. It's one of my favorite saga.
I want training and music. Playing with Ivan Drago and all the others.
At the end of the game, (because there must always be a surprise at the end of a game), unlock a career mode to play Mickey! (Rocky's first trainer who was also a boxer!)

Honorable Mention :

Tutankham

Arcade Game: Tutankham (1982 Konami) - YouTube

Venture
