Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Yeah.... definitely the type of game that we want on Amico for sure.  Especially with the motion controls and co-op.  It's on the list.

Question:  Does anyone know if there is already a Disc Golf game out there?  Steam?  Switch?  Mobile?  If so (and it's a good game), I could have our folks reach out to them and maybe accelerate the process.

Tommy, download Disc Golf Valley on your phone and play it. It is freaking awesome and would be PERFECT to have this or something similar on the Amico!!!!!  It is made with the Unity engine.

It is AMAZING!!!  Disc golf on the Amico.... now wouldn’t THAT be something?!??!?!?

I'm a HUGE Backgammon player and have been my entire life.  Actually entered tournaments and won a few times in my class.  Was nationally ranked at one point.

I was personally taught by the greatest backgammon player the modern world has ever seen.  Nack Ballard (https://www.nackbg.com/)

One of the issues with Backgammon online is that a lot of places are "gambling".  This causes folks to get a little more suspicious and upset when the perfect roll comes up for others.

That being said... I've literally played tens of thousands of online backgammon matches... and yes... the dice are rigged sometimes.  Especially towards the end.  I'm guessing there is some kind of "Karma Gaming Engine" algorithm going on.  :)

I can't tell you how many times I was 99% sure to win when the other person or CPU or bot would roll the absolute perfect roll... or... 3 or 4 doubles in a row.  This would happen about once per day when I was playing around 20 matches per day.  So about 5% of the time.  Granted, I was good so I probably saw it happen more than the average player.  But it definitely 100% occurs.  Which to be quite honest... is why I stopped playing.  It gets to be so painful and frustrating after awhile... especially when there is money involved.

I had no idea people played Backgammon online for money/tournament prizes. And yes, you can't trust anything that happens then. That isn't the random number generator - they can just toss that code and cheat. Legit gambling sites normally worry about weak random number generation from the opposite side - they might let the player know what is coming (it is predictable) and let *them* cheat.

Wii Sports Resort was great...

But certainly you can pull from Summer Games, Summer Games II, World, Winter and any other Epyx Olympic themed game. Plus come up with your own.  Seeing the Summer Games have been post-poned till 2021, might be a good marketing campaign for Amico to have that sponsorship.

Leader Board Golf was great on the C64 and Amiga.

Brutal Sports Football was fun.

You can go on forever... but I do hope there is a "Resort" style fun competition style game, and a more serious competition style Olympic games.  That would be great... Go for the Gold II

Tommy, how was the discussion with Warpedcore Studio a couple of months ago ?

Any chance they come on board ?

Diego Almazan looks like a really good guy. Likes to do games in 2D, not Pixel ...

His last game Aqua Lungers 4 players co-op on the switch looks cool. (But I can't try it, it was only released in the United States.)

That's not what I want for him, but if the games are not selling well, maybe it's the thing that can bring him with the team !

The only thing I am not sure if it's only 4 players with split screen ? I know that if possible you want to avoid that !

For those wanting to take a look :

The team has been talking with them.

Gotta use the "Bond Angle" with the phony... Player's Privilege.  Works everytime.

Here is the OEB Clip about our conversations on re-imagined and some original ideas for Amico.  I though this would spawn more comments than Board Games and Sport Topics, but alas Board games win.

I didn't know the Switch version existed until I bought my Neo Geo last month. Speaking of Neo Geo version, I think even the MVS version is expensive now... as much as I'd love to get it, it's time to buy the NeoSD Pro and call it good!

I forgot about the size limits thing. Lots (most/all?) of modern games use uncompressed audio, which takes up a crapload of space. Uncompressed textures in high resolutions do, as well. Not sure which one takes up more space in general. I am almost certain it's audio, but I'm not sure.

We have a game dev here in the thread to answer that question, though, so I do know a way to find out... Tommy, what generally takes up more space in modern games, art assets or audio?

Depends on the style of game, but typically audio.  Especially if it's running 5.1 and there are 20,000 lines of interactive dialogue.

I can also go on record to say that the audio is what takes up most of Amico game space as well.

THOSE AUDIO BASTARDS!!!

And now, if your significant others are asking you, "Whatcha doin, hon?", you can honestly reply robot nips, and not have to clear your browser history.

Mine would just say...

"Again?"

Apparently Windjammers on the Neo Geo is really awesome. I've heard things like that it's the single best sports game ever made. Interesting that it would take 26 years for a sequel to get released.

Ah!  That's why I didn't know it.  Never had a Neo Geo.  Could never afford it.

And from the looks of it...

I STILL CAN'T!!!

JESUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@Tommy Tallarico Happy Friday TT<giggles> !  Any new or updates around Amico production timelines, testing things like that? Me being a nerd I love reading and hearing about that stuff.   Also would it be a stretch for me  if I had even more positive thoughts around 10/10/20 date since the Koch Announcement ??? :)  I know you probably don't have much new news, but I gotta ask.

Tommy,

When the controllers are charging on the Amico, is there a battery icon showing that the controllers are charging?  Also, it would be cool if the Running Man appeared on the controller screens while they're charging.  He would run fast at first while charging, then stop once the controllers were done charging.

Cool.  Been reading about the guy who made it.  Looks like a one man show.  Will have Hans reach out as he is based over there.

Yep!  We have a Decathlon game in the works for 2021 and been talking to some "folks" about the EPYX stuff.

A little fun for your Thursday...

It's been teased this week that Sega will be dropping a revolutionary announcement on June 4th...wouldn't it be something if they were jumping on the Amico bandwagon?

I was thinking about this and the speculation of a Saturn and or Dreamcast Mini. Sorry to add to the Amico thread, but revolutionary would be if they made the mini console and have the ability to purchase more games for it. The cheapest method would be: Make a digital shop. Buy and download.  My dream(cast) would be for them to release Mini Packs of games in a physical format that is scaled to the mini DC. For all the Crazy collectors.

Now back to regularly scheduled Amico program:

Is there a time frame of when we will be seeing the retail packaging? I know that you are doing something special for that. Same with the physical games. Would love to finally see the packaging and media. (Don't want to say cartridges).
