Cool.  Been reading about the guy who made it.  Looks like a one man show.  Will have Hans reach out as he is based over there.

https://udisc.com/blog/post/disc-golf-gaming-hits-new-peakin-a-valley

Tommy, sounds like he is open for programmers to reach out to him:

UDisc: Is there anything else you wanted to add?

Wahlstedt: Yeah. If anyone out there with any kind of programming experience or who's even just interested in learning wants to help me with this, just reach out*. I'm really open to collaboration.

*You can reach Per Wahlstedt by e-mail at [email protected]

I really hope Hans does this. I think this would be HUGE for the Amico!  Again, disc golf is the world’s fastest growing sport!

Now back to regularly scheduled Amico program:

Is there a time frame of when we will be seeing the retail packaging? I know that you are doing something special for that. Same with the physical games. Would love to finally see the packaging and media. (Don't want to say cartridges).

End of July.

I'm glad to see that the thread is back on track!  Nevertheless, after the exchanges we had the other day, I think it's worth reminding everyone—myself included, since I had a hand in them, too!—of something I said earlier about keeping the discussions here focused on the positive and not on perpetuating arguments, particularly with people who are not inclined to be convinced anyway:

On 4/29/2020 at 12:29 PM, jaybird3rd said:

Unfortunately, engaging with them at allparticularly hereis becoming a losing proposition for all of us.  The prevailing narrative among the people on the "other side" of this thing is that this thread is being used as a platform for attacking Tommy's critics and critics of the Amico, and even that Tommy is actively encouraging the people here to attack his critics on other venues.  If we try to persuade them, or if we try to demonstrate that they're arguing in bad faith, or if we speculate about their mental health, and especially if we quote their comments from other platforms for the purpose of responding to them here, it all feeds into that narrative, whether that is our intention or not.

I can understand why you're all motivated to do this: we're all enthusiastic about the Amico, and some of you have had to put up with a lot of abuse for it—I have, too!—and I know that you all feel a natural need to respond to it when it happens.  But I'd like to ask everyone to exercise more restraint, and to refrain from engaging in this kind of discussion in the future.

[...]

Remember that this is Tommy's Q&A thread, which is supposed to be all about positive and productive things as Tommy continues to take us on this journey.  I think we're building an enthusiastic community here, made up of people who have come to enjoy each other's company, particularly during these difficult times.  I predict that, after the Amico is released and we're all having fun with it, all the noise and the negative energy from the critics will quickly disappear.  So let's try to retain that positive spirit, and not allow the negativity to get us down now.

Out of curiosity, is there anyone in this thread that doesn't like TRON?

That's great to hear!   As already been mentioned... would be amazing to see Impossible Mission and even Temple of Apshai come back to us as re-imagined on Amico.

If you can pull Epyx into Amico, you could cover a lot.  As you even said... Pit Stop series would be a lot of fun as well.

Yeah.... definitely the type of game that we want on Amico for sure.  Especially with the motion controls and co-op.  It's on the list.

Question:  Does anyone know if there is already a Disc Golf game out there?  Steam?  Switch?  Mobile?  If so (and it's a good game), I could have our folks reach out to them and maybe accelerate the process.

PS3 had a disc golf with very well done motion controls.  It was one of the games on Sports Champions.  Bocce Ball was also on it.  I really liked how the motion controls felt.  It wasn't as gimmicky as Wii Bowling.  It had the actual feeling of throwing a frisbee.  Wiki says it was developed by Zindagi Games and San Diego Studios, which is owned by Sony.  It is definately a game worth being familiar with before developing a motion based disc golf game.

Yo @jaybird3rd & Everyone,

I'll take the blame for this and would like to apologize to the thread.

As you all know, I don't mind having healthy and respectful debates with folks.  In the past I've invited naysayers to come on in to see that we don't attack people just because they don't love Amico and to show that we are not disrespectful to folks who want to talk.  I almost feel the need to defend the folks here because of some of the dumb things these attention grabbing YouTubers spout about this place.

It's clear from the last week or so that these folks don't care about facts, logic or how respectful anyone here tries to have conversations and give another point of view.  They're only looking to try and get me to say something so they can run and play the victim in hopes that they'll get more clicks, views or attention.  It's pretty telling when a guy makes a video saying I misquoted him... then reads the quote I typed (which was literally exactly what he said)... then he plays the video clip of himself saying it... then says... "See!  I didn't say that!".  Then goes on to beg the same 5 AA banned ding-a-lings to share his video so he gets more views and clicks.  Really disgusting stuff.

But shame on me for falling for this kind of garbage.  It wasn't the first time... but IT WILL BE THE LAST!

So again... I apologize for bringing in unwanted drama to all the fun we typically have here.  It just amazes me that those type of negative people exist and there is ZERO reason for me to invite those kind of attention-needing echo chamber "victims" to our little corner of the universe.

I still don't mind having healthy and respectful conversations with folks if they are being respectful and honest with their concerns.  I just won't be "inviting" them here to do it.

Thanks for listening!

In other news....

The new build of Bi-Planes is FRICKIN' AWESOME!!!  Same devs that are doing Moon Patrol.  They're GREAT!

The amazing thing about Bi-Planes is that it has the same exact feel and dynamics as the original (SUPER IMPORTANT TO EVERYONE WORKING ON IT!!), but you're seeing, feeling and controlling it at around 60FPS!  So it's super smooth.

I can't wait to show you all more eventually.  Probably sometime later in the summer.

Tommy

One of the things I have learned by hanging out here is I was not as good at the old Intellivision games as I thought I was. Some of the high scores I have seen posted are crazy and I have leaned about some of the features within games I have never seen due to the fact I never was able to get to some of the later levels.

That being said, it made me question how you find the play testers who have the capabilities to test these games consistently at these elite levels. Are the developers that good at playing games or do you farm play testing out to super nerds? If you do farm the play testing out, how do you find them?

I’m admittedly indifferent to the movie, but as a Journey fan, I loved (and still do) the soundtrack song, Only Solutions.

That reminds me... Journey had a game on the 2600. It sucked.

Still, I live in (unrealistic) hope for an Amico reimagining. The arcade game (totally different to the Atari game) had its moments, so I’d take that, too.

Hate to be a tease... but...

LIKE THIS!

Pic of me with Tron creator Steven Lisberger and sound designer Frank Serafine on the right (who unfortunately is no longer with us).

This was at my World Premiere of Video Games Live at the Hollywood Bowl back in 2005.  I had them come up on stage and introduce TRON with me.  First time it had ever been played LIVE!

Here's a video of the segment (not from the Hollywood Bowl though... not much YouTube back then).

In our original trailer you can see the life-sized light cycle I had built for the Hollywood Bowl show that zoomed across the stage at the end of the segment (complete with lasers!).  Also had Tron characters battling the MCP who was projected on the main screen!

Yeah... I got TRON issues.

:)

Tommy,

Will some digital games in the Amico shop get removed after a while so that new games can be added?  Also, is there a time limit for how long a game is available in the Amico shop before you can no longer buy it?

Depends on the style of game, but typically audio.  Especially if it's running 5.1 and there are 20,000 lines of interactive dialogue.

I can also go on record to say that the audio is what takes up most of Amico game space as well.

THOSE AUDIO BASTARDS!!!

:D

I thought so.

Don't worry, it gets worse.

And if you only want the manual:

European version of Kizuna Encounter is the most expensive Neo Geo game. I think they only made 5 copies of it.

The attention to detail is second to none.  It's very much appreciated.  You know, intellivision biplanes control is disc up to pull the plane up.  Even though I played it a lot back in the 1980s, today it's counterintuitive and I immediately do a nose dive.  I actually now hold the controller upsides down.  So the question is, will amico biplanes be disc up nose up like intellivision biplanes, or will it be disc down nose up?

Edit:

I think the developer of amico moon patrol and biplanes is WastedStudios.

Is it later in the summer yet? I have lost all track of time. It feels like it's time for a cool new update. 🤔😎
