Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Recommended Posts

That kid will probably be a famous youtuber. We probably were like 10x more retarded at his age.

Just a couple of observations:

- Judging by the way he talks and his preference for retro systems (which probably came from this dad), it's very possible that his dad is doing the script for his videos.

- He made a similar video about the 3DO, Jaguar, Amiga CD and other failed 32-bit consoles. He naturally has placed the Amico in the same category and that's normal, I also thought the same when I discovered the console.

Of course, the comments section is already full of the regulars, including a new one with a nickname that's Tommy Tallarico spelled backwards (I think that alone kind of proves which side is where the maniacs are).

Back to the kid, I wish all kids were lucky enough to play retro systems like him, even if he still has to learn to respect every system.

Yeah, but everybody is talking about Sony and Sega now. I don't know when they will decide (IE) to let go the press release.

Yeah... this week is a BAD week for a gaming press release!

But... this next press release isn't really targeted to gaming sites.

He's not new.  He popped up shortly after a certain someone was banned from here.  It's one of that persons confirmed fake accounts.

It's fun to watch them have conversations with themselves.

Strange folks.

All upset over a video game system they've never played.

They can't stop paying attention to us and every day they not only think about us... but take massive amounts of time writing about us and some go farther and even make videos.

Gotta love it on one hand, but feel sorry for them on another.

Speaking of feeling sorry for folks.

Funny that one of the fake double accounts immediately posted my message here about that video within minutes of me writing it.

Showcases the obsession (and some may say "sanity or maturity level") of these folks.

Interesting that they are not only promoting this thread to others, but they are helping me to spread the word about how I feel.

:)

Also kinda cool and interesting that this particular video has 10x - 20x the amount of views than any other video he's done.  Again.. what does that signify?  It signifies that we clearly have peoples attention and are on to something big.  A tidal wave of awesome is on its way!

It does make it less valid when you dont have facts. Amico is not from mattle it is a 16bit cpu. Having an opinion is fine but doesn't mean a lick of anything if you are off on the facts. Then you are just a misguided person just ranting and l you dont even know why. It just makes him look ignorant.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Instrument_CP1600

I didn't watch the video, but I'm curious what you mean by "Amico is not from mattle(sp) it is a 16 bit cpu".

Is this just a formatting error, or are you saying that Amico is a 16 bit CPU? If you are saying this, it's incorrect. It's 64 bit.

He was referring to the video which was talking about the original Intellivision.  The video said that Amico was made by Mattel and that the original machine was not a 16-bit processor.

He was pointing out that in both those instances the video had made an error.

Its listed as a 16bit microprocessor which is a type of cpu.  Unless the place I found the information is incorrect.

Okay, understood. Sorry for the confusion. Since it was all part of the same sentence I thought the whole statement was referring to Amico. Thanks for clarifying!

No problem if I'm wrong I would rather someone point it out. Never a problem to be wrong it helps me become more knowledgeable on what I love.  🐃

I don't think you should fight immaturity with more immaturity. I think it's Pete who said kill them with kindness. There are some obvious trolls like the backwards Tommy tallarico but there are others that seem to be okay like EZ g. it's better to turn haters into fans then to just inspire them to be more hateful. That's just my thoughts not telling you what to do but that's what someone like me who right now is still pretty much in the middle sees it.

Those are good points when you are dealing with reasonable people.  The types that are trolling wont be turned. If you have seen some of the stuff they have said and the way they have gone circles around hard facts then its clear they have not interest in the Amico.  But you are 100% correct it dies off it you dont feed them.

Dangerous ground for someone be arguing on considering the CP1600 was a cut down 16 bit chip meant to be partially PDP-11 compatible (PDP-11s ran entire businesses at the time; $20,000 in the 1970s, that is over $130,000 today) while the Atari 2600 had a 6507, a cut down 6502 with limited address buses. Considering the early state of home gaming machine everyone was running a cut down version of the premium "full power" chips they were based on. Sure all of that is blown out of the water by a Raspberry Pi Zero today, but scoffing at using cut down chips is ignoring the reality of the time. Sure not all of the 16 bit registers of the CP1600 were general purpose, but the 6507 couldn't address all of the address space of the 6502 either (64kb down to just 8kb - is it *really* a full 8 bit processor then?).

I think you'd be surprised who you could turn by constantly being nice to them. even civil arguments a lot of times won't work because people don't like to be wrong it's just natural. some you're definitely not going to have buy the Amico but I think some would probably just lay off and do something else. also the supporters aren't exactly innocent I see a lot of spamming comments on YouTube some pretty distasteful. It actually almost makes me not want to support the thing anymore because when the community first started there was none of that.

Interesting insights from this young man

I watched the video knowing exactly what it was going to be. Didn't disappoint. I will give him credit, he does play his N64 with his friends. That is good! One step closer.  But a  lot of his facts are not facts.  I think basement kid vs person who showed off his awards and the listing of all the video games he had a hand in is a perfect example of who has the most industry knowledge. Again, more power him, I think that opinions are a good thing to have. But opinion does not equal fact.

The comments section for his 23 subscribers says it all. Get ready for the 50 year old people who will attack you. The last person who did this.. bla bla bla. Someone even says that there is no way that the Intellivision is 16 bit. But when someone points out that the chip is 16 bit.. And gives the link to the wiki... I'm stopping.  I believe that we should all do the same.

I had other things to write. But the bottom line is: get more facts. And nice pic in the background! If you find value in playing that old system that originated with Mid 90's tech, that means that graphics are not the number one thing in your brain. Another plus in my book!!! That means that there may be an Amico person in there someplace. IF you are open to something non-traditional.

Almost none of us on this forum have seen or played an Amico yet. We are all putting out our money as we are sold on the concept. And Tommy. We don't know anything about the execution. Yet. But so far I like what I see. I like some of the vision. Not all of the games. But I see the vision. I'm positive that most games will be fun. Think of it this way: I liken prordering my Amico to preordering a new xbox or PS. Almost note of us have touched those either. We have barely seen any gameplay. But some are sold here on one or both of them.  Because we like what we've played in the past.  Same here.

Yes.  So, I maintain that the best policy is not to feed them.  I would even go so far as to say that we shouldn't continue to post or discuss critical Amico videos here going forward.  In a sane world, there wouldn't be anything wrong with respectfully engaging with these video creators and their points of view, offering reasoned counterarguments or corrections where necessary.  Several of us here have already proven that we're more than capable of doing that, and I don't think we need to prove it again.  Unfortunately, we are not living in a world when a majority of people can peacefully abide any kind of disagreement, even over trivial issues.  Anything you say is likely to be immediately picked up and taken out of context, and no matter how dispassionately or impersonally you say it, it is likely to be deliberately misinterpreted as an "attack."  What everyone does outside of AtariAge is their own business, but I don't think it's a good idea to even attempt to comment on these videos on YouTube (or wherever else they're posted); even if the video creator is genuinely mistaken and you're only trying to offer a correction, you'll only get swarmed by the trolls.  There aren't many of them, but they don't seem to have anything better to do with their time.

It's unfortunate that their histrionics have created this situation, but that's where we seem to be right now.  I think the best we can hope to do is to avoid anything that would make an already ridiculous situation worse, and to keep our discussions here as positive as possible.

Absolutely... 100%.

And when we release the info as to why... everyone will understand and get it right away.

:)

Hey TT<giggles> for even more clarity as sometimes I am a bit dense.  This does not mean that some games cannot be played without a smartphone though right?

Since this game was the topic of conversation a bit ago, I thought some of you might be interested in one person’s take on it:

Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics review

Interesting read.

Without playing the game (I've ordered it and just waiting for the release and package to show up this week) if the reviewer had fun with the games, I don't the issue with the $40 price tag (his only real complaint).

But again... can't really comment until I actually have a chance to play it myself.  I was just thinking that if he had fun with 51 mini games, that a $40 price tag doesn't seem like too much.  Less than $1 per experience.

This is why it's important for us to have so much more in our "simple to play" games.  Value is a huge factor.

This is a very strange comment to me that makes zero sense.  Would love you to expand further.

If you aren't interested in supporting a video game system because people who also like it say some things that are distasteful to you... how the heck have you ever supported any video game system?  This isn't something that is new.

The fact that there are passionate folks on both sides (lucky for us 98% in the positive and we haven't even started marketing to our audience) just shows how important and exciting and talked about it's going to be.

I just thought it to be a very strange comment that you wouldn't support a video game system because of what other people say or don't say about it.  Wouldn't you support a system because of how YOU feel?  Or if you like or dislike it?

Interested to hear more about your thoughts on this.

Correct.

Not many... but a couple.

It's actually a big hint if read into properly.

Tommy, price tag for software on Amico will be between 2.99$ and 9.99$ ( Mostly 5.99$ to 9.99$ if I remember well ).

What kind of game could be at 2.99$ ?   A game like Pool ? Some Edutainment games ?

I am trying to be original with my question ! 😊

Thank you !
