Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

I saw part of the 1st video the father and son did. Lol I wouldn't exactly use them as an example.  I thought it was a funny video though. They seemed more interested in stuffing their faces than discussing anything video game related. Remember this is not for hardcore gamers even bringing up those 2 takes them out of the demograph this system is focused on. And remember intellivisions main target is 50 and older

I had no idea this was for 50 and older I thought the main target was millennial moms and kids? That makes more sense actually

The primary target market is in fact kids seven and under and their parents.  Parents make the purchase decisions when it comes to young children.  Second is casual gamers.  Then the nostalgia crowd.  Last would be teenagers.

I am sure the lack of shadows was a similar artistic choice

I'm pretty sure the lack of shadows may just because they havent done that yet, you cant ignore shadowing as otherwise all art assets float and humans eyes do not like floating.

Did anyone post this yet, I am trying to keep up with all the reviews and media being posted.

https://screenrant.com/eathworm-jim-4-gameplay-intellivision-amico-2021-delay/

I particularly liked this part:

"The initial pitch for Amico has not gained much traction in the world of gaming, even with exclusives to beloved franchises like Earthworm Jim 4. That's probably A-OK in the long run, as Amico is not really designed for those who complete Destiny raids solo and argue about which next-gen console will run things better on a 4K TV. Gaming is a big enough industry to house all sorts of markets, and the same players who made Nintendo's Wii a smash success haven't really been catered to in quite some time. Much like Nintendo's dominance of what was once the portable market, Amico hopes to carve out its own niche and provide another outlet for smaller games and innovative controls to shine."

Wow...what a video yesterday @Tommy Tallarico. Tons of stuff in there that both my wife and daughter found entertaining and exciting. My daughter liked Evel Knievel, my wife liked Astrosmash and i liked that they both were exited about games coming out. Its happened before but the enthusiasm in my house right now is sky high! My daughter loved the bit where you were showing the Amico in parts (she thought you were hilarious) and you asked about the glossy or matte finish and she came up with an interesting question...

"I think the matte Daddy...because if the controller is glossy won't it give (us) trouble with reflections when you try and look at the screen?" In my heart of hearts i'm sure it wouldn't effect the screen but i thought it was one heck of an observation.

Cheers All,

The Wren

Interesting comment for a console that’s not actively being marketed to its major target market yet.

Has a warlords vibe to me

I thoroughly agree. In fact I posted yesterday that Space Strike reminds me of Warlords. I don't see a resemblance to Rocket League. Perhaps they chose to use Rocket League because of its popularity and name recognition. Plus the younger generations may not know what Warlords is.

gotta admit, i used to be skeptical but it was a good showing.

Tanks and Moonbuggy looked sick. Was very nostalgic. Took me back to the days of the Atari Jaguar and 3DO, back when people didn't just care about graphics and framerates and other nonsense. Just good, honest fun.

I'm definitely not a furry, but the Fox game looked cool.

Only thing is that I wish there was a Call of Duty like game. Not like first person but like an overhead view like Ikari Warriors or something. Wouldn't that be something? The story could be about the time in 1964 that the US government helped overthrow the left wing president of Brazil. Of course, it would have to be family friendly so instead it would be about eating cake and shooting dudes with party poppers.

I especially like the diversity shown. Look at these nice people having a blast with the Amiko!ba44311a599426f1c5bcadd3cc8c6b1eb9dee154

Like we all saw with Bernie vs. Biden, you can't ignore the black vote. It's huge. Good to see the Amico has black families on board.

I like your whole tongue-in-cheek vibe, but this part I found the funniest. People always cared about eye candy and always will until we achieve the videogame singularity.

I actually liked several of the games, but was off-put by the visuals in several others. I don't personally care for that overly clean and clinical look, especially ones that give off that rendered 90s vibe.  Still, I can't resist overhead tank games like the one shown, and certainly Earthworm Jim looked extremely promising and avoids that whole aforementioned sterile look.

Missile command to me looks like they are trying to do too much. Play area is really confined. Cities are too big as are the launchers.  There shouldnt be large missiles flying in a rectangle that already has too little area. The whole game is just way way too busy.

I am a HUGE missile command fan, one of my favs back in the day.  The beauty of the game was the cool expanding explosions set off by your rockets.  The missiles coming in were at least somewhat proportional in that you really couldnt see the missile itself.  The greatest  part of that game was in the presentation and in the almost zen quality of the explosions ( and the neat part if even if your targeting was off, the explosion still might make up for your miss )  Again, this is just my opinion, but I think they are missing what made this game great to begin with.

Agreed. Its a very busy screen, especially multiplayer

The 3do and the Jaguar were amazing graphics for the time. Games like Alien vs. Predator and Wing Commander III were mind blowing. So graphics were definitely important at that time.

Please, let's not get all political and race driven in here. Thankfully this has been one place I can go to without some sort of agenda being crammed down my throat.  Why wouldn't black families be on board any different than other families? Whether or not there's a picture of a black family playing the Amico, I don't think they need an invitation to play or buy an Intellivision, and I don't think anyone would have thought anything about it. "Wow, I'm so happy that black people like Amico too. Now I can really stand behind it." Lol, what the frick.

No fuck that. No one outside the US would want to play a game where the US government is fucking around with other governments.

Yes, I'm going to put a stop to this right here.  Please keep politics (and religion) off AtariAge.  If you need to discuss those topics, there's absolutely no shortage of websites where you can do so.  Just not here.

Thanks,

I will optimistically assume that he was being tongue-in-cheek with this, but I agree, let's not let this get political and racial because there's no reason for it.  Any posts which cross those lines will be deleted.

EDIT: See Albert's post above.

This is exactly the type of video you guys needed to really show exactly what games are coming to Amico, meet the teams involved, show the hardware and more. Great video. I'm pumped!

I think going forward Tommy should redo what he did with that skying part, and do that with all the previews. It should be him, with the amico, talking with us and showing us games and that is it.  Hes got a great personality and lets be honest, we all really just want to see gameplay.  All that other fluff and interviews is not going to make anyone sit up and notice anything.

Maybe they did that because they're proud of the system they made?

Disclaimer: I have yet to see the video, it's downloading now.

If they could replicate all the graphics textures in that video (people, scenery, gas station, cars) for the Amico Hot Wheels game it would be sublime. It would be transcendent.

Ha, I've seen these before. I'm not sure how they ended up in my YouTube recommendations, but a lot of love went into these race videos.

Thanks for posting that.  That actually was fun to watch!  Wish they could make those late 60's muscle cars for the new "Auto Racing" game.

Perhaps the Amico team will reach out to these guys to film the games intro. What a great way to get people pumped to play the game. I'm willing to bet it would help sell a few Hotwheels too.

Also, I could see a physical release of this game having an exclusive Hotwheels car with a chip inside to scan and play the game vs just a card you scan. Heck, just pack the game (car) on a Hotwheels card/package instead of a standard box. How funny would that be.
