Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Recommended Posts

Hi Tommy !

I received an empty envelope from your company. (picture)

Someone forgot to stick the envelope !! lol

What was supposed to be inside ?

Also, I received my 2 mugs, but no Hoodies ? Is it normal to not received them at the same time ? It was the same purchase.

Maybe because they are shipped from two different places ?

By the way, my son is very happy with is merchandise, and he asked me if someday you will have bottles, and maybe a calendar in the shop ? :)

Tommy,

How about a trade in program for those of us who wasted money on the VCS? That is if it ever releases...

I would like to say though that I really appreciate your approach with the Amico. Very much night and day with the circus that is the VCS.

OT: Merchandise for Intellivision was at Walmart at one time, and now it's gone? What is the general word on Inty-related merchandise going forward?

I agree with getting some stuff into Target and Walmart.  I always find myself in the retro games section at Walmart, which is now noticably smaller...and I have almost every retro video game t-shirt Target sold including 2 retro Atari t-shirts.   Would love a good $10 Retro Intellivision shirt as well... 😄

Flood the stores with Inty Merch!!!

Is there gonna be a way to obtain the special Intellivision card without making a merchandise purchase?

(That or mailing in for a free sweeps entry)

I believe Tommy said there will be a way to mail in to join giveaways as well as the cards once those start

@Tommy Tallarico @nurmix I may or may not be... okay, I am... working on a multiplayer demo for a game I reckon would be perfect for Amico - just to prove I'm worthy, haha. What's the main resolution of the Amico? 1080p?

Unity has changed a bit since my last release but I'm having a whole heap of fun with this :D

Anyone remember Pit Stop for ColecoVision (I believe it was on a few other platforms as well).  Would love to recreate something like that.  Where it's not just about the driving.

One of my fav colecovision game (and C64 as I recall, the sequel was VERY well done on that computer).  For couch cooperative multiplayer, that would lend itself well for the pitcrew!!!

A couple of items:

- If anyone here wants to save the 10-15 minutes that takes watching the new Pat & Ian video bashing the Amico, this is Pat's response to a comment that defends the Amico as an interesting and different alternative that offers offline multiplayer: "Fine. Then release those games on the Switch". I think this sentence summarizes the whole mentality of the show. There is no need to add any comment.

- The new Xbox looks extremely ugly, almost satanic. The name, Xbox Series X, is not only redundant but a terrible, terrible idea for countries where "series" is the plural form of "serie". Also, the controller is exactly the same as the previous one with a Share button, which gives the whole project an aura of lack of originality. I can't predict how sales will be, but hopefully many gamers will realize that graphics are not everything.

Nintendo fanboi gotta fanboy. Don't you get it? Only ONE, UNO, EIN game system should be allowed to be on the market at a time, and they all have to be made by Nintendo.🙄

I mean... why develop your own system, employ hundreds of people, create much needed jobs and choose your own destiny when you can pay Nintendo $16 a game in licensing fees & let them bury your game in shovelware?

Not directly Amico related but was just going over the XBox Series X announcement and according to CNN the new Bluetooth controller will cost $179.99. Such hard choice - get an Amico with two controllers and 5 games or just a controller... I am sure it is a very nice controller but...

If this is the trend then prices on this next gen of consoles is going to astronomical.

Great point on the Nintendo cut - that is about twice what you are paying Intellivision for the whole game.

Flip the equation and say your a single mom trying to find some family friendly entertainment for the kids. Switch games are typically $40 to $60 each. Buy two of those a month and you are spending $1,200 over a year. Buy two Amico games a month at $7 to $9 and you spend about $200. Which one you think most folks can afford to spend on a year of family entertainment?

Nintendo produces some great games but they are a money sucking machine. Some of their first party games are well worth $60 but a lot of those $60 games sell for $20 on Steam and are $20 (or less) value games. Where are the * consumer * fanboys instead of blind allegiance to a billion dollar company?

I really doubt it. It seems ridicoulous especially since it is really close from the previous one... $79.99 maybe, but it would already be perceived as too high.

Yes.  1080p.  No 4K.

You should do Pit Stop!

It's pretty obvious that they only say half the stuff they do to try and get me to respond. Sorry boys... I tried to have a mature conversation with you once. That ship has sailed. :)

Doesn't surprise me that they can't comprehend the "family" and
"friends" aspect of gaming. Not everyone is going to like what we're doing. That's fine. Let them ride their little hate campaign. Just remember... the curly haired one predicted that we will only sell 5,000 units. Will enjoy all the meme's of that in about a year from now. :D

Maybe it is a typo but it is on CNN and has been for 6 hours. I wouldn’t have believed it either but the Elite controller is $200 so there is precidence - here is the link:

https://www.cnn.com/2019/12/12/tech/xbox-series-x-microsoft-trnd/index.html

The Xbox Series X will come with a new Bluetooth-enabled controller which includes a rechargeable battery that Microsoft says has "up to 40 hours" of life. Microsoft is also selling the controller on its own for $179.99.

EDIT YET AGAIN: Fast Company reports $179.99. Have already put in more research time on this than Pat the Punk has done in total for the history of his Youtube channel so leaving it at this: Appears to be $179.99 unless multiple sites are incorrect.

EDIT AGAIN: my bad - Polygon article was referring to the existing Elite controller with that price (sorry am looking up stuff on my phone - which isn’t optimal). No other confirmation from a major news source so maybe a typo.

EDIT: Also states the same on Polygon $179. Has a dedicated “share” button however so totally worth it ;)

Cool release trailer.  I liked it a lot from an audio/visual standpoint.

Interesting choice for the shape of the console.  They really put the BOX in XBOX this time!  :) Microsoft... not really known for it's outer design skills.  Looks like a PC tower.  It wouldn't even fit in the place I put my consoles in my theatre room (unless you can turn it on its side... which I'm assuming you can).

Confusing name for the console though.

Millions of kids next Xmas: “Mom, I want the Xbox Series X!”
Kid opens gift and gets an Xbox One X.  Facepalms ensue.

Funny to read some of the comments on some of the more mainstream sites.

Looks like most people aren't digging the name or shape.

I think folks are just going to call it the XBox moving forward.  When you talk about your machine it's normally "My PS4", "the Switch", "Lets play Stadia" (well... no one is really saying that).  :)

But no one is going to say "My Series X", "the Series X", "Lets play Series X".

Confusing choice in my opinion.  Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.  :)

Doesn't really matter the shape and name thought.  They will sell tens of millions and the games will look epic.

They are definitely keeping it hardcore.  Love it.  Good news for us.

Hahaha!  Good points.

I thought the most disturbing thing in the video was the fact that they started reading all the positive comments from YouTube and just started making fun of them.  They are so arrogant and biased against us that they just can't comprehend in any way shape or form that someone would have a different opinion of the system then they do.

It also cracks me up that they keep referring to everything as "mobile" like.  Um... you mean the category of gaming that dominates 55% of the industry?  (25% consoles, 20% PC).

Um... okay.. yes... compare us to mobile if you'd like.   :)

These guys just aren't capable of seeing outside their own bubbles.  It's okay.  No matter what we do they are always going to hate it and make fun of it.  Their egos will never allow them to say anything positive.  Even when they mentioned that Breakout kinda looked cool... they immediately went to... "but there are games out there that look just like it".  So... if I showed the most epic 1st person shooter... (or ANY genre for that matter)... the same words could be spoken and true.

Was also hilarious that they couldn't comprehend the reason for putting "buttons" on the face of the mobile app.  And they still don't realize that on the controller... the disc is used as a button and the screen can be configured as multiple buttons.  They keep saying the face of the controller doesn't have buttons.

Just remember... the curly haired one predicted that we will only sell 5,000 units.

Microsoft shot themselves in the foot on naming last time so obviously their response was to reload and fire again.

i kind of like ‘the Box’ styling (can you call a stretched cube styling?) but talk about doubling down on hardcore gamers. That thing is huge and the price is going to be high. Yep they will sell millions because how else are you going to lure that 16 year old out of their lair for 30 minutes at Christmas? I just don’t know how much farther “elite” gaming can go before they start seeing a big drop off in numbers. Just seems like the ante is really getting up there.

You right - just going to highlight the difference with the Amico.

Guys, I'm really sorry to bring up the PS1 again... I saved my weekly allowance for 6 months to buy the thing, it was my first home console and the first time I could play against 1-3 friends, so I have my reasons.

Yeah, the machine had 3D games, but I didn't buy it for that. I was 17 and I wanted it to play games, because my friends had it too and well, I wasn't looking for cutting edge graphics. Sure, I enjoyed the most advanced graphics when I saw what the programmers did with Gran Turismo, Spyro, Abe's Oddysee, MGS... even Silent Hill was amazing due to the building textures, taken from real buildings.

A few years later, I remember the same approach with the PS2. It had technical issues and many games ran at a lower resolution compared to Dreamcast or other consoles, but I just wanted to play Ico and PES.

I miss that approach for home consoles. Machines to play games, not to admire graphics or to use ridiculous controllers. Sure, the X-rated Malcolm X Series XXX boxxx will sell well, but I feel lucky I have lived a different era that allows me to see things in a different (and less expensive) way.

Ok final post on this - I think CNN is wrong and Fast Company copied them. The reason is CNN article links to the XBox Elite controller while the official XBox announcement just says they adopted the D Pad style of the elite. However they don’t refer to the controller shipping with the new XBox as Elite, which you think they would to justify the high price (of the controller and maybe the console).

So I think you are right - the regular new XBox controller won’t be $179.99. Sorry to waste so much forum bandwidth on this.

Here's a racing co-op game suggestion for you.

Great American Cross-country Road Race. Up to 8 players... One controller drives, the other has a map on the controller, because they have no idea where they are going other that the route on the map.  Split the screen for every 2 players, maximum 4 screens if possible.  Using a "3D" style behind the car look like the original game, Turbo, Pole Position, Pit Stop... etc.  Or even make it look like Accolade's Test Drive series.  Include wrong turns, fuel stops, road obstacles, construction, weather...etc ... Police... Etc.

The Original 1-player Activision game was very popular, no reason why a remake wouldn't be.

Then do several other versions... Europe, African, Australian...etc.

Several cars.. American Muscle Cars (65 Sport Fury...Lol)... European Cars (drive your Ferrari).. Japanese... You get the idea.

Or just name it 10,000 Mile Race...etc.

This coming from the same company who started out as the Xbox, then became Xbox 360, the Xbox one, now Xbox X or ten?!  It's obvious they have a serious issue with numerical order! 😄

This just proves their level of maturity, or lack thereof! 🙄

I can't believe people in here are still paying attention to them.  I would rather search YouTube earnestly to find what other Amico supporters are saying!
