Stating FACTS about Nintendo and the content they allow on their platform isn't bashing them.

You may find this article interesting from earlier this year.  They know what they're doing.

WSJ_Article_small.jpg.ea8875098fe40e9edad8fa183d39ec45.jpg

I like Nintendo games as well.  Doesn't mean I don't have the right to bring up the fact that they allow more violent and sexual content on their machine than any other.

And yes... Nintendo keeps coming up over and over on this thread because everyone keeps telling us that we're doomed and stupid because Nintendo already does what we're trying to accomplish and we're idiots for trying to compete.

All I said is that there are more violent, abusive and offensive games on the Switch than any other platform.  It's a fact... whether you want to acknowledge it or not.  And you want to try to make me out to be the "bad guy" because I'm choosing to point it out?  And trying to show people the harsh reality and differences between what we are doing and what they are?

And by the way... their Parental Controls are complicated and lacking as well (bringing up the Parental Controls argument is a little weak if you've never tried to set them).   Again... that isn't "bashing"... it's pointing out another item that will differentiate us from them.

I appreciate Nintendo and their games just as much as the next person.  But don't try to silence my speech that not many people are willing to bring to light.  And for the only reason to explain to folks what makes us different (because certain know-nothing YouTubers are so easily to call us morons because "Nintendo is already doing what we're doing".  No they aren't.  Not on the scale and extent of what we are.

Here are a just a few images from Switch games that you WON'T ever see on Amico...

Enjoy...

Again... people will bring up that there are Parental Controls on the Switch.  If you're going to bring that up as an argument, first you must list all of the steps you need to take to enable all 4 of the areas of control.  And tell everyone how long it took and whether or not an average "mom" would be willing to understand and operate.

Holy crap. Is it wrong I want to track down some of those games now? 😂

I agree a video game system should not enable a parent to simply have a latchkey kid, parents must parent their children. I love Nintendo and am 46. As a family we’ve had every Nintendo system since the N64...I parent and control what my kids play. Nintendo may let teen games on the system, but that doesn’t mean we let the teen games in our children’s hands!

They also allow AO (Adult Only) X-rated games on the system as well.  Something Sony & Microsoft won't even do.

That’s a massive swing from the older Nintendo systems. Remember when even Mortal Kombat didn’t have blood? I guess they’re trying to shake the “kiddie console” stigma - but that really comes from their first party games anyway - they’re mostly pretty “cutesy” (and I wouldn’t change a thing).

Yes.  It is well known that as their audience grew up... they wanted to start making the content appeal to an older and more mature generation.  They felt they were getting creamed by Sony & Microsoft during the Gamecube era because the kids in their late teens (who grew up on Nintendo) were now wanting PlayStations & Xbox's.  They lost a lot of market share to Sony & Microsoft in the mid and late 90's and the beginning of the 21st century.  They were a solid and distant 3rd place.  Before that... they only had Sega to deal with.

Now they continue to push the envelope.  And that is fine.  I'm not one of these folks who say that "art" should be limited and controlled or banned for adults.

But I will point out the fact that parents will never need to worry about any of that kind of stuff with our system.  It's safe.  Like taking your kids to a Disney movie or Disneyland or letting them watch Sesame Street or Nickelodeon.  You know what you're going to get and you can feel safe about it.  And like Disney content... there's stuff that everyone will love as well and enjoy together.  We are the Disneyland for home consoles.  That is my goal.  Yes... you can fun there by yourself... but it's also even more fun when you're there together with others.

Stating this FACT should not be construed and twisted to mean that I'm "bashing" Nintendo.  It's a ridiculous accusation from my standpoint.  People trying to stir up and cause drama where there is none.

We are what we are... they (and the other hardware companies) are what they are.  Anyone who thinks there isn't room in the industry for what we're doing and trying to accomplish is being either naive or biased.

People "bash" us all the time saying we are crazy to go up against the big 3 (4 if you count mobile) and that we offer nothing different.  So when I point out the differences I'm "squawking"?

Hardware companies go after each other since the beginning.  Remember Nintendo & Sega in the early 90's?  (Sega won that marketing battle!).  Microsoft & Sony go at it all the time (as recently as last week).

Coke/Pepsi, McDonalds/Burger King, etc., etc...

Totally fine to point out differences in your product.  Especially when people are saying your product shouldn't exist because "Product A" already does.  (even though they are very different and go for a different audience).

My point in the squawking comment was akin the Pat & Ian deal...lots of “debate” on them when they don’t even matter. I always believe and adhered to the “don’t sink to their level and even acknowledge them” Same for Nintendo and their allowing of teen and even adult content. I didn’t buy the switch and all their systems for that kinda content. Same token for the new Intellivision, I’m not buying it so I can be a latchkey parent.

I mean no ill will toward you or what you wanna talk about, but I was agreeing with other poster that we are already fans of the new system you and the team are gonna bring out...so who cares what Nintendo does or don’t allow on their system.

No worries!  I appreciate the honest and open and respectful discussion!

To respond...

When you say "who cares what Nintendo does or doesn't allow on their system"...

We care.  Because it's one of the big things that makes us different and that these "squawking" folks are ignoring and throwing us off the cliff for.

It does make a huge difference to state what makes us unique.   It comes up all the time in investor meetings... and once we show them and explain more... they all nod their heads in agreement (and get out their check books).  :)

The public will need to know and understand this as well... and we will have certain targeted ads that show the massive differences between what gaming has become... and what we offer (which is something totally different).

Thanks again for the continued discussion.

That's one thing I had in my head since a couple of days...

Same fight for Disney and Amico. I would not be surprised to learn you have a deal with them ! :)

I have a good friend who is friends with the author of the books & film.  I told him to mention that we'll give him anything from Intellivision FREE for Ready Player Two!!!  Need to at least see the Running Man somewhere in the background.  :)

Well.. at least it got a 2 second cameo in the first movie.  Even though in the book, the two main characters were playing it in the basement hangout.

Would be great if the Intv got top billing over Coleco and Atari in the next one.  Lol.

This is a discussion about marketing and family friendly games. Amico's clearly competing against Nintendo here: Just as Sony has abandoned the portable console market, Sony and Microsoft are not very interested in the casual gaming market or Nintendo has abandoned the home console market (Switch is selling pretty well, but it has "failed" in a couple of key aspects: 1) first generation where Nintendo doesn't compete in the home console market and 2) several failed attempts to introduce "revolutionary" controllers: the joycons and the ring), Tommy is just celebrating than Nintendo has violent games on its system and leaves the control to the parents.

While some modern, gamer parents can do a great job at that, Tommy has said that many casual/non gamer ones complain about the violence on the Switch and are very worried about it, and would prefer the Amico approach with a totally safe environment that would probably save them time and scares.

Whether Tommy and its team manage to make that message reach to millions of potential buyers or not is something we will see in less than one year... I personally don't care about violence, but if this multiplies by 10 the sales of an offline multiplayer console in 2020, I say BAN FREKIN ALL.

By the way, the paranoia of putting sex at the same level than violence, with movies, games, series and comics having gore but banning naked bodies, is something for another thread and another time, but I surely don't need naked bodies in my video games to have fun. 😇

Seriously. I'm not aware that video game industry can push that far.

For that, I won't let kids playing video games outside living rooms.

Allowing kids playing games in their bedrooms are parent's responsibilities.

Another thing about Amico

What would happen if kids play Amico all day, despite Amico games are shorter and repetitives.

Amico games can be addictive too. Parents can't watch their kids all the time.

Tommy, here's an idea for a marketing campaign for moms.

Take 5 of 6 of those screenshots and add a message

"This is a Nintendo Switch game.

You won't see this on the Intellivision Amico."

I wonder whether that would be legal or not... but if Sega got away with "Genesis does what Nintendon't"... who knows.

Here's a nice headline... and yet again... something that is very different about our systems:  https://www.trustedreviews.com/news/nintendo-switch-violent-games-3308414

Again... people will bring up that there are Parental Controls on the Switch.  If you're going to bring that up as an argument, first you must list all of the steps you need to take to enable all 4 of the areas of control.  And tell everyone how long it took and whether or not an average "mom" would be willing to understand and operate.

I'll be waiting.

I never owned a Nintendo after the SNES I remember my dad and I trying to decide between the new PlayStation or Nintendo so on consecutive weekends we rented a PlayStation and the N64 after playing each machine we decided on PlayStation because we both thought that the N64 controller had too much going on made to experience less enjoyable for us. I had heard Nintendo had relaxed some of their policies on content I had no clue it had relaxed that much

i bought a used PS3 from a friend when he decided he like the games on the Xbox better. I skipped out on this current set of consoles all together I decided for the little I played the last generation it just wasn’t a great value.  I missed playing games other than sports games with others in the same room (something I feel largely disappeared at least from PlayStation with the 2) so I just figured my days of playing modern games was over.

Then I October 2018 Intellivision the company that had made the first console I played games on announced they would be making a new console with a focus on easy to understand and play games which I assume means easy to learn difficult to master and that every game will feature in room multiplayer and it will be reasonably priced.  I was immediately excited and I would have been just as excited by the idea even if it wasn’t being brought by Intellivision because this is the gaming I’ve missed.

Frankly I didn’t know Tommy from Adam I didn’t watch him and Victor on TV, I didn’t pay attention to one aspect of games creation over another l, I didn’t know about Video Games Live. What I have found in the year plus following this project is a person who loves video games but that like me missed being able to play games with friends in the same room, and as a bonus he is also a huge fan of Intellivision.  It’s the passion not only of Tommy but of people involved in the project like the original Earthworm Jim team and Bill Fisher and I’m sure many more thst keeps me coming back for more infuriating about the Intellivision Amico every day for the last 14 months.  Thank you Intellivision for turning the focus of games from competitive twitch games and beautiful cinematic visuals, to fun to play games with friends and family and doing so at a price point that is affordable

This is my private life. I won't answer it.

What kind of response is that?  I didn't ask for your Facebook page, your e-mail address, your real name, where you live, etc.

Lets face it... you won't answer it because you know damn well you don't have any kids and it makes your argument look a little weak.   :)

I don't have kids (yet) either (and I'm willing to admit it openly)... but that doesn't mean I can't fathom (or listen to) all the parents and data out there that point to "screen/content" control being the #1 concern for parents.

Seriously. I'm not aware that video game industry can push that far.

And now you do because I brought it up.  And I didn't do it by "bashing" Nintendo... I only showed you proof of which you had no knowledge of.  :)

What would happen if kids play Amico all day, despite Amico games are shorter and repetitives.

Amico games can be addictive too. Parents can't watch their kids all the time.

We have a very simple app and RFID parental control key to limit game time for kids if parents want.  We also utilize a positive reinforcement program to allow kids to "earn" more playing time if they help mom around the house, clean their room, take the garbage out, get a good grade in school, etc.

Teaching responsibility is important to our mission.  We don't want kids playing video games all day long.  When is the last time you heard a video game company say that?

I had a whole long post but instead of pissing off both sides I will just ask this...

When can we expect to see more of Moon Patrol?

Hahaha!   ;)

We are planning to give an entire level of Moon Patrol in January on the Amico Club app!

Tommy, here's an idea for a marketing campaign for moms.

Take 5 of 6 of those screenshots and add a message

"This is a Nintendo Switch game.

You won't see this on the Intellivision Amico."

I wonder whether that would be legal or not... but if Sega got away with "Genesis does what Nintendon't"... who knows.

We have a lot of "comparison" ads planned.  It's not going to be our bread and butter... but it is something that is powerful that people know and understand.

You ask most modern non-gaming moms what they think of video games and they'll say they are too violent and they hate the fact that their kids play them all day long.

Walmart & GameStop will tell you the same thing.

This is a Disney Movie...

Not really.

It's a movie by Miramax that the twisted pervert Weinstein put out with Tarentino.  You don't see the Disney logo appear at the beginning (or anywhere) in the film.

Disney bought Miramax... so it was a Disney "owned" movie for awhile.  But it's not a Disney movie in the conventional (and marketed) sense.

Also... Disney SOLD Miramax in 2010... so technically it isn't even owned by Disney anymore.   :)

Treasure of Tarmin is more of an rpg.

I would’t go that far calling it a RPG. It’s more of a simple dungeon crawler to me.

A few more messages quoting Tommy's message with the screenshots or joining to the party with decapitations and this thread will have to be renamed as "Another gore console than Amico?". 😝

Tommy might want to edit that post. I think that might go against the forum rules. People have been banned from this thread for less.
