Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

This guy seems like some sort of rpg expert.  "Tarmin is also the first Dungeons & Dragons-licensed game of any platform that can reasonably be considered an RPG." The first  intellivision ad&d is also a dungeon crawler but not considered an rpg.

When I bought Treasure of Tarmin around 1986, I returned it to the store.  I was in high school and didn't have time for it.

Meh. Apples and oranges.

Tommy, here's an idea for a marketing campaign for moms.

Take 5 of 6 of those screenshots and add a message

"This is a Nintendo Switch game.

You won't see this on the Intellivision Amico."

I wonder whether that would be legal or not... but if Sega got away with "Genesis does what Nintendon't"... who knows.

I reckon if you worded it right you could definitely do that. "Did you know this game is available on Nintendo Switch?" It's a true statement. Nintendo may argue that by saying "This is a Nintendo Switch game" that you're saying it's a Nintendo game, which it isn't, and could possibly have a (weak) leg to stand on in court.

Not a silly idea though, tbh. Chuck it in mags like... I dunno... what do mothers read that their kids won't see? Haha...

This is my private life. I won't answer it.

That's an odd reply to a pretty normal question. It's not like he asked for their names, phone numbers and social security numbers...

Dungeon crawlers are a type of RPG. 🧐😇

Dungeon crawling is an aspect of a RPG but to me Treasure of Tarmin doesn’t qualify as an RPG since it doesn’t go as deep as say a D&D campaign where you flesh out your character with more depth.

That’s just my opinion though, call it what you want. I would still like to see a modern version of it based on the Amico commandments :)

Not quite that interesting but I was just happy the weather in Dallas was low enough today that I could properly enjoy my Intellivision merch Christmas gifts. My t-shirts arrived when it was 40s and my hoodie & mug when it was 70s - darn Texas weather!

Not really.

It's a movie by Miramax that the twisted pervert Weinstein put out with Tarentino.  You don't see the Disney logo appear at the beginning (or anywhere) in the film.

Disney bought Miramax... so it was a Disney "owned" movie for awhile.  But it's not a Disney movie in the conventional (and marketed) sense.

Also... Disney SOLD Miramax in 2010... so technically it isn't even owned by Disney anymore.   :)

Partially correct. It was financed by Disney and yes, produced by Weinstein (but before anyone knew he was a pervert, so he was a Hollywood God!) and distributed by Buena Vista distribution, a wholly owned Disney subsidiary. Wiki says Lions Gate and Studio Canal now own the film library.

But now, because of the musical chairs of corporate mergers, Disney now owns a movie we don't talk about.

Actually...  it was partially financed by the profits Miramax made off of Pulp Fiction (6 years earlier) and partially financed by the Weinsteins themselves as it was considered a huge risk.  Weinsteins even made Tarantino cut it into 2 films as Tarantino refused to hack it down to one.  They were filmed at the same time (as it was only supposed to be one movie) and the lead actors contracts had to be renegotiated because they were splitting it into 2 films.  Disney wasn't involved in any of this.

Also... Buena Vista only distributed it in 5 countries... not in the U.S.   :)

Argentina, Germany, Spain, UK & Italy.

Disney was very careful and did not want any attachment to the film.

If you want to hear a real interesting story about movie financing... look at what James Cameron did and went through to get Titanic made!

Also... most films are not in fact financed by the studios.  They are financed by investors (mostly the Chinese these days).

Not trying to argue or defend Disney... just giving some of the interesting and true history.

Tommy might want to edit that post. I think that might go against the forum rules. People have been banned from this thread for less.

Being banned for showing pictures of games on the so-called family friendly Nintendo console would exactly prove my point.

At least I'd go down in a blaze of glory.

This is exactly why some claim him to be a bit of a tyrant on set. I have a few friends who worked closely with him on Avatar - he had so much at stake and knew EXACTLY what needed to be done, down to the make and model of microphone he wanted to be used for a particular shot. He's so incredibly knowledgeable about every single aspect of film making. Hell, I was a boom operator for a few years, then a sound recordist and I wasn't any more nitpicky than using the correct mic for inside/outside. Anyway, according to my mates if you just did your job without throwing in "helpful" suggestions that just waste time (which is money) he was awesome to work with.

Cameron was super nice to me.  He said he loved my music on The Terminator Sega-CD game.  I needed to get his approval for in the game and to put it on my album on Capitol Records back in 1993 (god... I can't believe that was over 26 years ago!).  Like you said... he's very "hands on" with everything he does.  He even wanted me to write some tunes for The Terminator 2 movie!  But sadly he left the T2 project.  :(

Awesome! Yeah, my mate Grant was his PA during the whole Avatar shoot and they kept in touch. Says he is an awesome guy. Friend of mine also has parts in Avatar 2 and 3 and he says the same thing. He has lots of funny Arnie stories, apparently! Haha. Sounds like they had fun making the Terminator films.

So you reckon we'll get a Terminator game for Amico? :P

I must admit, despite being a big Jennifer Lawrence fan, I have not seen it. The trailer was enough!

I could care less about the rest of the movie... even though it looks good.

But look who else is making a return in 2020...   Ecto-1.  Best 'barn find" ever!

Intellivision is back... Ecto-1 is back... shit... It's going to be a great year!!!
