Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

I'm someone who believes games are the best tool to bring people together. Because of this, I've been trying hard to find games that different people could play together. Unfortunately, this is incredibly difficult. Up to now, I'd say board games are the best tools for this task, but even board games have their flaws. It's particularly difficult to unite adults and children below the age of 8 or 9.

I had high hopes for the Amico. All games being multiplayer, the simplified graphics, the simplified controller, and the "Karma" engine made me think every game on this console would be designed from the ground up to be a tool to make people with very different abilities and tastes to play together. I'm now afraid the Amico will end up being a mishmash of different games that people will not really play together and this kind of depress me.

Yo Papy!,

You're "depressing" yourself for absolutely no reason at all.  Seriously.

I'm not sure why you are thinking that all of the sudden we aren't going to have games for everyone to play?  Please feel free to go into more detail and I'm sure I will easily change your mind... because it's not the case at all.

And although this particular forum focuses a LOT on the retro stuff AND... we only been showing more of the retro style stuff at this point.  I can tell you that there are a LOT of big games that are for EVERYONE... no matter what your skill level or video game interest is.  I say this exact thing in the trailer from last year and it's said over and over and over again all throughout our website.  So again... I kindly ask to let me understand why you think we aren't going to make games for everyone???

You said you "HAD" high hopes for Amico and now you're depressed that you aren't going to get that??   I'm totally confused and need to understand where you got this idea from.  Please go into further detail so I can prove to you that your feelings about this are based on incorrect info or a misunderstanding of our goals and focus.

Thanks!

Tommy,

Since Star Wars can't be on Amico due to EA, unless later on you get permission from them.  What about a Star Trek game?  But that might be a problem too.

I wish I could tell you more.  But I can't right now.

:)

Since this is a Q&A thread... Tommy, what is the best video game you have ever played and which one is the worst? You can only name one for each category.

BEST OVERALL:   Super Mario World

WORST OVERALL:  High Heat Baseball 2003 of course!

Here's the proof!!  (Funny considering I just posted that Victor Lucas video about Amico!!)   Hahahha!

Enjoy!

Tommy,

I've been playing a bunch of Royal Dealer...specifically Crazy 8's. Will this be re imagined  at some point. I'm feeling pretty sure that that's one of if not the only main video game console releases of that card game.

Tommy speaking of baseball..did you ever play the MVP franchise? those are considered to this day to be the best baseball video games ever

i was thinking the other day if the Amico where to get that game it would be a big seller and would sell consoles..but it's probably impossible with the cost of the mlb licenses and stuff like that

More important is the MLBPA license for the player names.  In 1983 Mattel had to take out all the player names because they didn't have the mlbpa license.

Since they are making new sports games for Amico they don't need to license any older games.  If they want, they can make something similar without licensing.

Darn. I was hoping for a PAX showing in Boston. It would give me a reason to go, I've never gone to one.

Eagerly awaiting someone to Photoshop the Blarneo's Math Fun box cover with one of these!  I'm thinking the one with the Gorilla is the winner!!  Right from the game!!!!!!!!    :)

The gorilla will have to walk around Busch Gardens. That's where the shot was taken. They probably know their statue. 😇

Maybe dodge river rafts and roller coasters to get to the next problem.😜

We will have something for everyone as individuals... AND... for families/everyone.

It truly is a very unique line-up in that sense in regards to where our focus is.  Just like in the 80's.

I'm going keep tabs on the Amico as it gets close to release. I'm very excited to see what family fun is like on it.

Hey!! I like the Amico and the new Xbox look!

Amico for family fun night and Xbox for my Red Dead 2,Halo and Fortnite solo nights with my online friends and family out of state.

Yes some of us can enjoy both.

Tommy,

Is Space Invaders getting re-imagined for Amico?  Also will Buzz Bombers and Mission X be on Amico?

Yes. In six years when they've reimagined all your other requests. 🤣:rolling:

Someone please Photoshop this.

So what is going to happen with this thread after the Amico launches? Are you going to keep answering questions about it?

I'd love to see that or Baseball Stars get a little re-imagined love...

the point I think a lot of people are missing is. If there is no E3 there will not be other alternatives since all other conferences will be likely cancelled as well. I love Tommy's optimism but lets get real, this virus thing will jeopardize both marketing and manufacturing plans. Worse yet, after all is said and done , when we do emerge from it your looking at a world in recession.  I mean the one good thing is with Zoom and Twitch and all the rest you can still market and communicate to media as well as potential customers, but the world is about to change and not for the better. Insane times we live in.

We've spoken to them but I don't really see the advantage of using all the player rosters.  I want the game to be "timeless"... not have to do a new game every year just to update players.

Having the MLB license gets us all the teams and logos!  That in itself is pretty damn cool!

More BIG news coming soon!

Yep.  For sure.  Also for Sony, Microsoft & Nintendo as well as anyone who makes electronics.

But it doesn't kill us.  It only slows things down a bit.  Not the end of the world.  A "walk before you run" structure isn't the worst thing.

Also not bad.... not a lot of machines made, they come out and it's a huge hit and everyone wants one... but can't get one.  2021 hits and we keep making more and more machines.

Scarcity is a powerful tool.
