Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

But you didn't really ask for specific titles (thank-you!) only the numbers.  Out of the 23 games shown in the trailer... we are currently hoping that 16 make it to launch.  That is the current goal.

Hope that helps to answer your question.

Thanks!

Yeah, that's why I did not ask for specific title, except Knievel that you said should be ready for launch.

And Yes you answered perfectly, thank you very much ! 😀

Still figuring that out.

We are not numbering them, but we do need to understand what our closest followers want (in order to ensure they don't get left out in the rain because of all the shortages that will be coming down this year).

TIME will be part of the "limited" as well.  If we get too many orders on day one or two... we'll need to shut it off.  We'll be monitoring it closely as we did the last time.

I meant to ask about the time frame. I was home for the FE. I might not be home for the VIP edition. Just wondering if you think this edition will be sold out fast like the FE was?

I was wondering if there will be a reveal of anything in the next few days about ways to customize the Amico. I was just re-watching a interview from 2018 and Amico customization was brought up. The idea was that there would be certain themed bases the Amico could drop into. With the pre-orders just around the corner it would be nice to know with the different color options being offered this time around. Not sure if that is something you're saving or it just got scrapped. Thanks!

LOL Get out a bit more. Well, not NOW but when the world gets back to normal everyday horrors. Get out then. :)

Even before this virus came around I only left the house maybe 6 times a year max I’m more or less housebound because of my disabilities so I have to be very sure that the trip I’m going to take is going to be worth the price I will pay with my body

How many Colors for the controllers are planned for launch ? One for each color of system ? I want at least one of each color, maybe 2. I will also buy every game in digital format as well as physical copies of whatever games are available for collection purposes ! Never had a feeling of attachment for a game console and it’s because of the personal touch Tommy is giving us.  I’m all in ! This time it’s personal 😂

I wanted to share this with folks in here and then ask a question...

I will not be breaking any forum rules by name calling and want to keep this as professional as possible as it relates to another AA forum member.

Below is a screenshot taken from the comments section from that negative NintendoLife article posted earlier today... this is from a frequent poster here on AA (whose been banned numerous times from anything Amico related).

I find it interesting (and hilarious) that he calls what we do in this thread "unhinged rants".  This is coming from the guy who literally has thousands of unhinged posts and can't go a day without slamming the AtariVCS... or talking about tacos (as if that joke didn't sail well over a year ago).

It's also interesting that these type of folks will always try to use the argument that we "curate comments" yet our current trailer has over 45,000 views and only 78 UNLIKES (as of this writing).  That equates to .1% of negativity.

Not 1%... POINT 1 PERCENT.  One tenth of one percent!

According to his post... we pull down the "vast majority" of comments.  Uh.... that math doesn't add up.  Sounds to me like he needs a little Intellivision MATH FUN time.   :)

He then goes on to try and tear us down because of the 2 games discussed by Atari Creep (already discussed and debunked).

After some demeaning name calling he sums it all up by stating how delusional I am.  (Ironic?  You decide).  :D

So here's the question I'd like to pose...

Why can't people come to terms with the fact that some people may like different styles of video games than others?  Why are these types of folks only able to think in absolutes?  Is it because maybe they don't have families and friends themselves to play with in person?  Is it jealousy?  Immaturity?  Stupidity?

I don't think it's stupidity... but what drives a person to obsess so negatively over a video game console they've never once played?  Do they somehow feel threatened because they are Nintendo fanboys? (even though we keep saying how much we're not going for that market).  Would love to try and understand what makes these people tick the way they do.  Just out of my own morbid curiousity.  Maybe we have some therapists in here that have dealt with this kind of immature (IMO) behavior before?

In a week where the world got a lot scarier and we try to put out a little joy in the world... certain folks prefer to try and trash us and destroy us just because we're trying to create something new and unique for folks.  They'd prefer to kick and bully the massive underdogs.

I just don't get it.  What goes on in these peoples' lives that they feel the need to crap on others anonymously online on a daily basis... for something they don't even know too much about.

I think of guys like @OEB_Pete or @AtariSociety who are always so upbeat and positive (like most of the folks in here) and think to myself... what went wrong in their lives to make certain negative folks shower so much vitriol for a video game system they've never played?  I bet if we dug deep... we would end up feeling very sorry for these folks and would generally want to offer condolences.

Something to ponder and discuss.  Curious to know everyone's thoughts.  Please lets keep the discussion as mature as possible out of respect for the rules of the forum when discussing other forum members.  Just using this guy as a typical example.

And to be clear... that .1% is probably very close to the number of actual negative "unhinged" folks.  I try not to dwell on that crap too much (hard not to sometimes!)... but I do find it an interesting topic to discuss here and would love to hear folks' opinion.

Thanks!

I think a few folks may have misunderstood the reasoning for my post.  I don't care if folks have a negative opinion of what we're doing.  I'm not insane... I know that people are going to hate it.  :)  I was just starting a conversation as to the "why".  Was just curious about getting feedback from folks as to what their opinions were on the subject.   It wasn't about giving any negative individual a spotlight... like I mentioned, I used that post as an example.

These folks say outrageous things which I'm assuming they know are lies.  Examples of this are... we delete a majority of comments (when the numbers aren't even close) and that having discussions with folks translates to "unhinged rants".

I'll throw in my two cents because although I'm not a psychologist, I have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express.

I think it comes down to "tribalism."  We as people tend to break ourselves down into small groups and then defend that group ferociously.  If the group can somehow be divided even more, it will be and you'll have fanatics on each side.  You see it with sports fans, politics (especially with politics), hobbies, games, religion, and other areas of life.  As a Navy veteran, it was funny to see how often the tribe would get broken down at each level. On the grand scheme, it would be veterans vs everyone else. But then within that group, each branch of the military would become a tribe (Go Navy! Beat Army!!).  Then within the Navy, you'd have each ship or command against the other.  Then even on the ship, you'd have departments sort of battling each other and within those departments, the divisions defending themselves.  It's crazy.  And don't even start thinking about religion, and how groups that share the same basic beliefs still go to war and kill each other over slight differences in interpretation.

It's the same with video games.  You have those who see themselves as "gamers" versus those who don't. But then within that group, people divide up between PC vs console, or Xbox vs PlayStation.  It's hardcore vs casual. People so entrenched in one group will fight (and the deeper they have divided themselves into as niche a group as possible, the harder they fight) to prove that they are right and anything that conflicts with their view is wrong.  Amico is a video game console designed for and targeting people who want a simple, fun way to play games with friends of all ages and all skill levels.  That doesn't compute with the class of people who think of themselves as "true gamers."

To be a true gamer to them means that you have to have the most high tech device to play your game on. More pixels and higher framerates mean that the game is better.  You also see certain commonalities that I never understood.  Games have to be as difficult as possible and the more "Dark Souls" it is, the better. They have to be big, long games so you "get your money's worth."  You have to view Castlevania Symphony of the Night as the best game ever, and Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time is a close second. You need to demand everything from a game, but even if it gives you everything you asked for, you still crap all over it for some obscure reason.  At least, that's the trend the I see over and over from those who are completely obsessed with video games in a way that seems unhealthy.

Something else I've noticed, and maybe an actual psychologist knows the answer to this as well, but it also seems that a lot of these people do suffer from certain mental illnesses.  I don't think a day goes by when I'm on Twitter and I don't see some hard core gaming personality talk about how they suffer from depression. If it was just here and there, I doubt I would notice it, but it seems quite common.  I don't know if these people are using games to escape the problems in their lives, or if they've dived so deep into being obsessed with games that there isn't anything else in their life.  I have always viewed video games as a hobby and something to have fun with when I need some entertainment.  I wonder if these people view it differently. Does this fall into realm of they've dedicated so much of their lives to having a view point that they will fight tooth and nail to vindicate themselves.

Short answer is "tribalism."  But I agree with the one who said, don't get into fights with stupid people.

They just piss me of at this point. I haven’t even watched this yet. They are always ready to be negative. And saying you can play these on mobile devices is so ridiculous. It’s about the coop and multiplayer, couch coop , high scores , family and friends competing , playing together and having fun. It’s not about a graphic comparisons. They are in their own box. Stay there !!!! While we have fun !

There is a whole demographic of people these days that are just angry and haters. What you need to understand is, for the normal person our lives basically revolve around the things we LOVE. Our families, our pets, our hobbies, our passions etc etc.  what we love and enjoy basically drive ours lives and in many ways can define who we are.  Now for this other subset of people whos lives revolve the things they hate. The things they Hate is what defines them.

You can be addicted to gaming. There is no direct you are a gamer therefore mentally ill. Gaming much like many things in life (gambling, drinking, eating, cell phone use, etc. etc. etc.) are okay in moderation. I see those type of issues in kids all the time. Might be gaming to much or too much social media.

I do think the Amico's less extreme games could be beneficial in this realm. I love video games and gaming and I don't want to see my kid get addicted to games I know he shouldn't be playing.

I would add to this that these tribal groups also want to maintain exclusivity of their tribes.  I think they are tearing down the Amico because it is trying to open up and expand console gaming to the more casual user.  I've been getting into board games in the last year and I see similar things there.  The hard-core board gamers build up the big heavy games and tear down the lighter starter games.  You wouldn't believe the hate displayed towards games like Monopoly or even Catan.  It gets to the point where people are hesitant to admit they like those games - and there are a ton of people who do.  And those casual games tend to be a gateway to the heavier stuff.  So if anything, the hard-core gamers should be welcoming the Amico as a gateway to those other systems...  but again, that would mean more people and less exclusivity.

The Intellivision Amico trailer that Tommy posted has more views than any of the videos Pat and Ian make.

Two grown men, one with a "curvy Isabelle" sticker on his laptop, sitting around verbally attacking a prototype video game trailer of an unfinished family game console is cringeworthy and embarrassing to watch.

I think Pat and Ian must be having difficulty dealing with fading into obscurity and irrelevancy for them to put these kinds of videos out. We can only hope that this video spurs some people to do actual research on what Tommy's trying to do and learn for themselves.

They just don't take the time to understand what the Amico is and find enjoyment in this kind of negative crap talk. They've built their ... "careers" around doing this kind of cynical act together.

I never comment on YouTube videos but enough is enough. This was my comment. They were just rude and the comment about that awesome music . Why ? Here is my comment and I removed and edited the rude words.

You guys are entitled to your own opinions but you sound very uneducated and rude ....seriously. No need to be nasty and insult people’s work. Not impressed. Would you be so rude if it was your brother , sister , wife etc bringing out the system ? I don’t think so. People feel so entitled to say anything they want online . Sheesh

I almost never reply in you tube comments but I really hate posers, and you tube is just lousy with them. For these guys to not even understand the team that amico has assembled shows me they know nothing of this industry.

Too true unfortunately.  We have a handful of board game stores I'll spend a couple hours in (less now that I've got young kids.  And am quarantined or something??) and a neighbor in our building hosts a monthly boardgame night.  Mention Settlers of Catan and there's throwaway commentary.  The "Ummagod, that's like, soooo 2012 right now" crowd exists and have to announce their contempt for something broadly popular and universal to get that Edgy, I'm Into the Real Obscure Stuff merit badge/patch from Activision in the mail..
