Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Good question.  Maybe it could be cool to have one player on the bottom and one at the top ? I don't know if it will be playable or too difficult !?

image.thumb.png.a067243a92c6bba65d8918e7c1e7071a.png

We tried this and had it working.   It sucked.  Was too unfair for the top & bottom.

Then we made the entire thing a square so everyone had the same space to cover.... and it still sucked and looked strange.

:)

Hey Tommy,

For the physical media ...any chance that you can have a subscription service for collectors through Intellivison's site. I like the idea of the physical just showing up on subscription. After all they are only $20-ish.

As well are these things to be packaged on a card, in a box, etc. with Intellivision's logo on it kinda thing? I like collecting MINT if i can get it as such.

Cheers!

Great video but nobody is losing their minds except a few who have nothing good to say about the Amico ever. I could make a list of games on *every* platform including mobile I would like to see ported and made multiplayer on the Amico. There are tons of great games out there and some mobile games kick ass. This is all about haters trying to spin a narrative “see see, they really are just mobile games” ignoring of course at that at *minimum* they have been make local multiplayer for the system and adapted to the controller. Much less what a Tommy is doing by flushing the games out substantially. And what 2 out of 20+ games. Just a load of hater crap.

i have a hunch this is that same weirdo that was putting up those videos a couple months ago with the goofy titles about Tommy...if you notice in one of this guys videos he does an impression pretending that he's John Hancock and in that other goofs videos he was doing the same but imitating Brett Weiss...what are the odds of 2 different weirdos who hate on the Amico but also like to do impressions of retro gaming youtube channel hosts lol

This is an excellent video, and big kudos to Tommy for always being available and happy to answer questions about the Amico.

I honestly was not too worried about the revelation that the Evel Knievel and Emoji Charades games were both previously released on mobile. Tommy has said multiple times that everything released on the Amico is either going to be an exclusive game, or have exclusive content. I just automatically assumed this fell into the 'exclusive content' category and never gave it a second thought.

It is excellent though that both you and Tommy took the time to talk about and fully explain this, and that hopefully puts some concerns to rest. Personally, I think its pretty cool that Tommy went to the developers for both and said 'I love what you have done with your game, how would you like the support to fully create the game you always wanted to make?'. So Evel Knevel exclusively on Amico gets more levels, more costumes, more stunt equipment and Emoji Charades gets new icons and new categories (like retro-gaming) and will include a kid-friendly play mode.

For myself, that sounds pretty cool (I can see my little nieces and nephews really getting into playing the charades; so making it kid-friendly is a big addition) and I really have zero problems with games like this on the Amico, updated and expanded games with exclusive content. They both look incredibly fun to play, and that is really the important part I think rather then getting caught up in a debate if the games are exclusive enough for the Amico.

Yeah don’t get me wrong - thanks for making the video and setting things straight, huge fan of the channel. That was directed at the people blowing up your box - because i could probably name all of them - let’s just say they have a history of trying to generate drama at every turn.

Cool video.  Love it!  Thanks for making it.

I also like that you brought up the fact that I told you a bunch of things "off the record" and that you were really excited about what's to come.  Lots of folks in here have been hearing me say "still lots of surprises to come" for a long time.  You heard 4 or 5 "off the record" really good ones today and I'm so glad that you were genuinely impressed.

Always feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Thanks again!

I wanted to share this with folks in here and then ask a question...

I will not be breaking any forum rules by name calling and want to keep this as professional as possible as it relates to another AA forum member.

Below is a screenshot taken from the comments section from that negative NintendoLife article posted earlier today... this is from a frequent poster here on AA (whose been banned numerous times from anything Amico related).

I find it interesting (and hilarious) that he calls what we do in this thread "unhinged rants".  This is coming from the guy who literally has thousands of unhinged posts and can't go a day without slamming the AtariVCS... or talking about tacos (as if that joke didn't sail well over a year ago).

It's also interesting that these type of folks will always try to use the argument that we "curate comments" yet our current trailer has over 45,000 views and only 78 UNLIKES (as of this writing).  That equates to .1% of negativity.

Not 1%... POINT 1 PERCENT.  One tenth of one percent!

According to his post... we pull down the "vast majority" of comments.  Uh.... that math doesn't add up.  Sounds to me like he needs a little Intellivision MATH FUN time.   :)

He then goes on to try and tear us down because of the 2 games discussed by Atari Creep (already discussed and debunked).

After some demeaning name calling he sums it all up by stating how delusional I am.  (Ironic?  You decide).  :D

So here's the question I'd like to pose...

Why can't people come to terms with the fact that some people may like different styles of video games than others?  Why are these types of folks only able to think in absolutes?  Is it because maybe they don't have families and friends themselves to play with in person?  Is it jealousy?  Immaturity?  Stupidity?

I don't think it's stupidity... but what drives a person to obsess so negatively over a video game console they've never once played?  Do they somehow feel threatened because they are Nintendo fanboys? (even though we keep saying how much we're not going for that market).  Would love to try and understand what makes these people tick the way they do.  Just out of my own morbid curiousity.  Maybe we have some therapists in here that have dealt with this kind of immature (IMO) behavior before?

In a week where the world got a lot scarier and we try to put out a little joy in the world... certain folks prefer to try and trash us and destroy us just because we're trying to create something new and unique for folks.  They'd prefer to kick and bully the massive underdogs.

I just don't get it.  What goes on in these peoples' lives that they feel the need to crap on others anonymously online on a daily basis... for something they don't even know too much about.

I think of guys like @OEB_Pete or @AtariSociety who are always so upbeat and positive (like most of the folks in here) and think to myself... what went wrong in their lives to make certain negative folks shower so much vitriol for a video game system they've never played?  I bet if we dug deep... we would end up feeling very sorry for these folks and would generally want to offer condolences.

Something to ponder and discuss.  Curious to know everyone's thoughts.  Please lets keep the discussion as mature as possible out of respect for the rules of the forum when discussing other forum members.  Just using this guy as a typical example.

And to be clear... that .1% is probably very close to the number of actual negative "unhinged" folks.  I try not to dwell on that crap too much (hard not to sometimes!)... but I do find it an interesting topic to discuss here and would love to hear folks' opinion.

Thanks!

I’m no therapist(tho I did receive a master’s degree in educational psychology) but if I had to venture a guess Tommy people like this fella usually wanna beat down and bash to build themselves up. He doesn’t like Intellivision, you, the aforementioned mobile games or even himself...so he, and other like minded folks, tear down ANYTHING they don’t jive with in an effort to build up themselves and their view. Validation of their world view comes via forums, YouTube or their like-minded friends. Just my thoughts...you asked and that is what I honestly believe. They have deficiencies and voids in their lives that can and never will be fixed or filled.

I’ve always wished you would not focus on them or the people like the Pat Punk coz I think “ehhh, why waste your time?” Your making the system and games you like and believe millions of other people will like so who the bleep cares.

If I don’t like mobile games like the 2 they mentioned I simply won’t buy them...novel concept huh 🤔 I’m sure there will be games on Amico I won’t like, I won’t buy them. End of story.

Just like there will be people I meet in life I won’t agree with. I’m not gonna beat them down because of it. The days of “agree to disagree” yet still grab a beer are long behind us. I don’t agree with everything you do, say or games you create and like...but I still dig Intellivision and what is on the way from you guys! If this fella can’t, his loss.

It is an obsession. But not just about Amico. They're self-obsessed. Who honestly cares what people like? Only people who are obsessed with going after people who like things they don't like.

They flaunt their own opinions and only care about their own "style," all the while attempting to attack anyone else's style that they have decided conflicts with their own. It's a classic hypocritical move in full display.

And for the record - that guy wouldn't know what "delusions of grandeur" were if he studied them for 10 years.

Nothing you post has "delusion," all your posts show are that you are wanting something you're building to succeed and wanting something with your name on it to do well. If that's "delusion" then that's something every human being on the planet has.

Tommy, it's been a while since we talked about the Japanese market, but as of this week I'm now using my new Intellivision mug at work in place of my BUMP OF CHICKEN one (I drink a lot of tea, Earl Grey, hot, mainly because a certain childhood hero of mine does). BUMP one is still here and not going anywhere, though! One of the girls was like "Hey, that's not your usual BUMP OF CHICKEN one! What's Intellivision?", so I ended up explaining to everyone what Intellivision is. Even the older guys (CEO and COO) didn't know about it, and I ended up showing both the girl who asked about it and the COO the original Intellivision (a picture, not my real Intellivision!) and we talked about some of the arcade ports that it has. The dude that I normally talk about video games with just had a baby, though, so he's not in the office this week. Maybe he knows, but maybe not. Looks like you might have a fun challenge here where relatively few people know the Intellivision name.

I did mention before that I've seen a Japanese Intellivision and that Skiing that I posted a picture of a while ago is apparently the Japanese version, so there is definitely some knowledge of it, but I imagine that there is not a whole lot. I hope stuff goes well for you so you can launch here! I imagine the Japanese launch involves some secret company stuff that you might not be able to talk about yet, though.

I think the Taco VCS thread is funny and I enjoy the Atari VCS discussion because it's funny, especially the Indiegogo comments. But when you use the same tactics about the Amico it's not as funny anymore.

Basically: Boo, get new material!

My personal thought is that this guy is entitled to his opinion and its easily dismissable at the same time. Its not balanced and or positive...but its allowed to exist. Everything is in the eye of the beholder...this guy sees the trailer you put out the other day and writes this post....i see the trailer 20 times in a row, get into a fight with my wife because i'm watching it too much, and am genuinely excited to come and check the posts here because (and pat on the back here community) the group in here is very positive and friendly. People in here are asking genuine questions and coming forward with cool ideas and hopes for the system and i like being a part of that.

I do have a sad truth about this post though and i hope you all take it constructively. Had Tommy not posted about this...i wouldn't know that this guy even existed, or the post, or anything like that...i would have had the time to watch the trailer 3 more times. Tommy you're as personally invested in this thing as any one individual can be on anything and for that you have my admiration Sir. You're going after a niche that i couldn't be more excited about in gaming and your (in my mind) 100% correct about what you've said and it speaks to me personally. If someone went after my baby like I've seen some people go after the Amico i'd be pissed as well. You don't need to shine i light on this guy...and again for me...he was living in the darkness until you did. I think that you simply have to suffer these guys until you can get it into the hands of them like you did with Smash JT who was very anti Amico until he played it...and great example there...I've never watched one of his video's until you showed up in one.  When the Amico does succeed it will be because people had it in their hands, played it, and bought it...not because of angry conversations about it. Long and short of it...don't get into arguments with stupid people...they will drag you down to their level and beat you on experience!

Now Apologies for my language all, i'm Canadian but as i'm sure you're aware i'm currently without hockey in my life and we're ready to start bustin' heads up here. Again huge props to Tommy for continuing to respond to everything and to all forum members who i have spoken with through PM and the main board.

Cheers,
