Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

So wait ...

You're telling me that I put down $100.00 (which is fully refundable) to reserve a $250.00 machine which comes with two controllers (value as yet undetermined), 6 games (total value at between $18.00 and $60.00), $25.00 store credit (a value of $25.00), a signed trading card, 3 digital soundtracks (value as yet undetermined) and a 25% store merchandise discount code???

And all games going forward are only $3.00 to $10.00?

This sounds like a deal of a lifetime.

And here I was saving my money for a $500.00 machine which came with one controller (a $60.00 value) and no pack in games. Going forward games were going to be between $40.00 and $60.00.

I think I've made my decision.

Triple Action; bi-planes especially, tanks notably, cars forgettably, was awesome. Given the brief type of teaser trailer, don't think the bi-planes title is very far along.

Also, does anyone else only remember one set of wings in the original?  🤔

They've been working on Biplanes a long time.  Maybe they're having trouble with the flight physics.  It's important they get that right.  It would be a great multiplayer game and would have made a nice pack-in.

With Intellivision Biplanes the lower wing is obscured by the fuselage.  The controls are also upsidedown.  I hope they correct it with the Amico version.

Tommy said they have been talking about making it 6 and possibly 7

Initially when it all started it was going to be 7 to 8. Went down to 5. Now up to 6.

I would love 7 or 8. I also wish Earthworm Jim was a launch title. 🐄

Its all good for me.  I appreciate Tommy recognizing the cost increase and packing in another game to help keep the value. Nothing made them do that, nor did they really need to.  Wonder what Sony & MS are throwing in this go-a-round?

I’m all in (really, every since i drank that dang kool-aid)

When what started?  I heard five pack-ins from the beginning.  With issues in China increasing the console price, it became six.  He said he might consider seven.  Haven't heard them say eight.

I’m happy with the pack in games. They all look like fun but I do hope that last one will be something really new and different. I would hope for a Killer app for the casual market. Something people will talk about that will really drive  system sales. That one really special game is needed in my opinion for the casual gamers. (Much like wii sports or more specifically wii bowling drove sales through the roof) I will love most if not all of the games, but i am a super fan and had the Intellivision as a kid. I really hope that secret game is something really new and different  that will sell systems. I  don’t think  any of the first 5 games announced are system sellers. Although I am super excited personally for each and every one of those pack in games !!! Thoughts everyone ? Im trying to see this from a casual gamer’s perspective who had never heard about this console. I’m always 100 percent in 😃😃😃

A few questions about Shark! Shark! @Tommy Tallarico

Will we able to choose other species of fish, or is it just a Clown Fish?

I was thinking it might be cool to play as a squid or a sea turtle or something.

I think the last game will be that ice cream talking game.  Tommy said is was really unique and tested highest with casuals.

As for the system sellers... I'm not sure the Amico will have one (or at least not for a while). I think the idea of the system itself IS the selling point.

It's hard to have a system seller or "killer app" when all games are priced $10 or less.

I know I know bowling for the wii.  I get it.  But Nintendo was at a different time then and it was a new thing.  Also Nintendo spent a lot of money on technology and landed upon the wii remote.

I'm not saying the Amico won't one day have that killer app or system seller.

What I am saying is it doesn't necessarily need that at the beginning because its appeal is family.

So it need to be simple enough for parents to understand, affordable enough to get the newer parents in on the ground floor, it has to be e10 or e for everyone to be truly a family machine and it need to have tons of quick pick up and play couch coop games (or Entertainment)

So. It needs to be S.A.F.E.

And not necessarily have a "killer app"

😉

So $250.00 then there's roughly 20 to 40 games at launch (let's just say it's 30 games).  That's at most $10.00 a game....$300.00 plus $250.00 = $550.00.  Then every 2 weeks (or so) another $10.00 game (at most) so that means 26 games in one year....$260.00...I do get that $25.00 gift card....

I guess it will be ok to get all of the games.  It's better than trying to collect JUST the jrpg games from ps4.  That was killing me.  I mean you get Crystar then another Trails game comes out.  Then Persona 5 Royal,  then Utawarerumono, then FF 7...it just never ends.  I'm not made of money.

I can swing $20 a month for Amico games but when I said in an earlier post that Amico was the last system I'm collecting for I was not joking.

I just can't keep up.

And I just dont play enough of them to justify collecting them.

I guess having affordable, quick pick up and play games are my new route.

🙂😊

And forget selling any of my psp collection to OEB Pete...

Did you know OEB means "open every box"?????

What would happen to all my precious sealed copies of psp games.  I mean most are from Japan and I can't read them to play them but I was going to get around to learning Japanese eventually....

Lol

It's easier than you think unless you're lazy. I have less than 2 years of formal study but I work in a small privately owned Japanese company where only I think 3~4 people can actually do English, so I have no choice but to use Japanese. I actually have a business presentation to give on the 7th in front of the entire main staff from the front office, including the CEO, COO, CTO, and CMO. No problem at all. It's really an easy language aside from reading/writing, and reading is easier than people think it is. After a while you can start guessing the meanings of words you don't know how to read, which is what Japanese people do anyway when they find kanji they do not know, which happens more than you would expect.

I think I like the name "conhole" better than cornhole anyway...

I don't like the thought of saying cornhole out loud.

I always called it bean bag toss.

But the the Atari Creep noted that tossing your bean bag sounds bad too.

This game just can't catch a break in the naming department.

Maybe just call it salad toss....what? that means what????..

I give up

A couple other great card games (I mentioned 5 Minute Dungeon previously) that I think would be perfect on the Amico are Love Letter and Tussie Mussie .

In Love Letter each player has 1 hidden card. On their turn they draw a second card and then choose one to discard. When a card is discarded, the player must do the action on the card. The player with the highest card at the end wins the round. Super simple to learn but very fun and holds up really well to repeated plays.

In Tussie Mussie you draw two cards on your turn and choose one to offer face up and one face down to your opponent. The opponent chooses which card to keep and you get the other. Once all players have 4 cards, you do the actions on the cards and score. Also a simple game to learn and play.

Amico would be the only system that could have these games in a couch multiplayer mode due to the screen on the controller.

Tommy, for the 3 digital soundtracks on the VIP (and I guess the 2 digital soundtracks for FE, which I still read as Fire Emblem, by the way), are those going to be available in lossless formats? Obviously when the Fire Emblem Founders Edition people get their CDs they can make their own lossless files, but the VIP people won't be able to do that since it's digital only for them. One Amico is enough for me so I won't get a VIP system, but I imagine that there are/will be some VIP people that want lossless, and as an audio guy, I'm sure you understand why!
