Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if there was any update on Utopia? The game I burned through the most hours on with the Intellivision & the first God Game on console that I know of. Is it still on schedule and any hope of a sneak peak coming up in the next month or so?

Guys, it's time to just ignore the trash talking. If you don't feed the animals, they'll eventually go away.

I would like to start with. Amicos new original titles. Love to get thoughts and  expectations from everyone and any added hints?

I know this is not really an original title, but I'm really hoping for some Jeff Minter Tempest. Whether it be Tempest 4000 or a whole new version. Tempest 2020 sounds fantastic.

Another type of game I'm hoping comes to the Amico is a space exploration game like Star Control II. I absolutely love that game on the 3do. Not only is it fun, but it's laid back. The multiplayer arena style battles are fantastic too. How fun would it be to couch co-op a game like that. Working out strategies to defeat enemies, or both people making choices during the dialogue.

I'm sure it's come up previously, but was there discussion about seasonal releases? The initial launch date of 10/10 would have been perfect timing for a Haunted House game.

Heck yeah, I am all in for a re-imagined Atari 2600 Haunted House style game. With maybe the creepy feel of Night Stalker but with limited visibility and strategy & exploration over combat. Maybe that role could be filled by Dracula but I would love to see more of an enemy avoid and/or catch mechanic & a collect mechanic driving the player.

A while back, the thought of a combat-light rpg was floated around. I had a random thought looking for something to watch last night: what about Sherlock Holmes? Uncovering clues as you go, working alongside Holmes and Watson to crack the case! Maybe even a challenge mode, to see if you can find the culprit before Sherlock.

Wall Street Kid was another that came to mind, but honestly, younger me never could endure an entire playthrough of that game. Never have revisited it, though.

Yeah... It's a great thought.  We've thought a lot about the following things...

Sherlock Holmes

Encyclopedia Brown

Hardy Boys

Nancy Drew

and...

Choose Your Own Adventure

Nothing in the works as of right now... but something that at point point we'll put a team of folks on.

Yeah, what I like about the Amico is that its a tool for families to try to keep the real ugly world away from their kids for a little while longer.  The first dozen years of life and childhood are glorious times, it doesnt need graphic violence and sex etc to ruin those Wonder Years.  Hell hormones and middle school will strip away all innocence no matter what you do, but at least this give parents a shot at allowing their kids some nice wonderful innocent years before the real world creeps in and fucks everything up.

Simple concept that some folks just can't grasp.

Hey guys...

Do you think this Coronavirus thing is making us all a bit more touchy in the forum discussions?

🤏🙃

No not me just dealing with people whos whole mission is to cause trouble that gets annoying.  I dont mind people having a different viewpoint.  But when some has to make up stuff just to avoid being wrong it ultimately puts people in a place where you can't have a balanced then nm I see people get tired of of it

umm, some of the most fiscally successful companies in the world are run by much bigger jackoffs than Tommy T.  (umm that may not have come out right  lol)  Anyway the point is, CEO douchebaggery ratings Im afraid have NOTHING to do with financial success, so whether you like Tommy or not really isnt relevant.

You mean like Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, Bob Iger, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, Michael Dell, Charles Koch, Jack Dorsey, Meg Whitman & Rupert Murdoch?

Yeah... I'll trade their type of success for some random anonymous kid hiding behind a screen on the internet whose never met me in person and thinks I'm a douche bag because he doesn't like a comment I made about Nintendo.

:D

the moment Tommy says "Man, you guys are disgusting to support the Nintendo switch" I'll be on board the "tar and feather Tommy" mission.  As it is, he's saying "hello world, this is the current state of affairs, this is what is played on other "family friendly" consoles, in particular the Nintendo Switch.  I'm offering this, buy doing this and limiting access of this on Amico.  If you feel you have the same desire of family friendly, then come along for the ride".

for the Intellivision Amico to be successful, this is EXACTLY what Tommy and the company needs to do to be successful at reaching out to this audience.  This isn't berating the enemy, it's identifying your lane and who occupies it

Amen!

Hardcore fanboys aren't able to understand that though.  They are too trapped inside their own bubbles to see the rest of the world around them and what goes on in it.  We see the same in politics, religion and race.  There are parts of gaming that are extremely and highly toxic and there are parts that are wonderfully creative and beautiful.  We prefer to only focus on the wonderfully creative and beautiful parts.  It's as simple as that.

yes but at one point Mark Zuckerberg was a kid hiding behind a screen. in my opinion excluding the type of people who are just trying to piss you off and get your attention which there's no denying there's a couple of those. I think there is some negativity coming from that we haven't really got much lately when it comes to like meet Amico or gameplay. We are like spoiled kids that want more and more. Things seem to be most positive when there's something like the night stalker video or missile command video are you going to come out with another one of those videos?

I've preached multiple times about my love for Tempest. And Jeff Minters take on it.  I sound like this:

Broke Down and Busted – Excavated Shellac

A re-imagined Star Control with updated graphics would be amazing!!!

Fig.co is not crowdfunding; this has been discussed extensively before, both here and elsewhere.  If fig.co is "crowdfunding," then every preorder and every investment ever made would also be "crowdfunding," and the term "crowdfunding" would have no meaning.

The conversation should just end there.  Anyone continuing to argue after the above statement is clearly not worth the time and clearly isn't here to "discuss" anything.

"People on the street" can invest in Apple, Microsoft, Disney, Amazon, Google... OMG!!!  ALL CROWDFUNDED!!  Who knew?

that has kind of died down a little since pat and Ian kind of backed away.

They haven't backed away... Someone sent me a clip from last week where they were talking crap about J Allard being hired, etc.

I just started ignoring them and not engaging.  They no longer deserve our time.

I've actually been interested in this for some time. I wonder if Vertebreaker will show up. I think Tommy mentioned that he was going to reach out to the devs. Would be nice to see the game get un-cancelled.

Is this the game you are talking about from headcannon.? Looks cool

You do realize that Intellivision Entertainment is capitalized to the tune of $20 to $30 million dollars - any Fig.co donations won't add up to the salary time it takes to process that amount by the accounting department. My advice is to stop embarrassing yourself on this topic.

Yeah... that one always cracks me up.  Take all the REFUNDABLE money that direct pre-order's have generated and it equals about 2 months of overall operating expenses for the company at this point.   :)

I just can't believe that Sony & Microsoft are going to start crowdfunding the PS5 & Series X next month when they start taking pre-orders.  Clearly they don't know what they are doing and are destined for failure.   :D

For anyone who wants to see  how the world of software works, Watch Silicon Valley.  Yeah its over the top, and takes some big leaps for comedy sakes, etc etc, but at the core of it all is the truth of how this world works, thats what makes it so damn funny.

Totally!!

I had never seen it and someone at Intellivision gave it to me about 3 years ago and it was hilarious!!  And you're right (you've obviously developed before!)... there's a lot of moments in there that are 100% based on reality.

Yes, that's the one. I guess it got cancelled or something because Stealth ran out of cash to fund it or something. Not sure what Headcannon is working on now, but I hope it's either a hypothetical Sonic Mania 2 or un-cancelled Vertebreaker for the Amico.

When it comes to expensive products people will likely need 1 of 2 things. They need to try them for themselves first and/or have heard good/great things via word of mouth. Times may change but word of mouth is still by far the best marketing tool EVER.

Yep!  It's always been the case and WILL always be the case.

YouTube influencers and celebrities who people like and trust will make a difference... but not as much as your wife, mom, brother/sister, best friend, etc. telling you they got one and the whole family loves it.

But best of all... interested folks getting their HANDS on one over at a friends house or in the malls and stores they are shopping in, etc.  It was the not so secret sauce of the Wii and is our not so secret sauce with Amico.

:)

BTW, not that it will make any difference to your intricately constructed world view concerning the Amico whereby you are apparently an authority on everything, but the reason Tommy keeps mentioning Nintendo, despite that he is not competing with it, is that everyone keeps saying to him the Switch makes the Amico redundant, so he tries to honestly explain why it is not redundant. People also say smart phones make it redundant, so he brings up Smart phones a lot. Are you going to say Tommy is bashing on smart phones or do you just have a biased attachment to Nintendo?

Exactly.  Anyone else starting to see the "pattern" of who the most upset people always are?

:)

Still waiting for all the mobile fanboys to storm in here declaring how unfit I am to be CEO because I said we don't have microtransactions and loot boxes and in-app ads like most mobile games.

How dare I use "fear mongering" with those folks to sell Amico.  HOW DARE I!!!!!!!!!

:D

Ez G reminds me soooo much of Sega Snatcher in the Collectorvision forum and early Amico forum right now where nothing but complete agreement with everything he says will do and he will keep repeating it ad naseum, despite how much logic is thrown at him. I'm just being honest about what we have here ... is a failure to communicate.

The reality is that it's literally the same 4 or 5 people with a few fake accounts having conversations with each other.  Most of them were banned from here because they weren't mature enough to follow the simple forum rules set forth by AA.  Every negative video... same 4 or 5 folks.  Over and over and over again.  Imagine living life like that?  Yikes!  Ya gotta just feel sorry for them at some point.  They have a massive negative crush on me.  Kinda flattering if you really think about it.  :)
