Independent Amico Discussion Thread

So who is excited for the Cloudy footage? I wish the main character was less generic looking, but I liked the speed of how it looked like it played.

I wonder if there would be any weapons beyond the arrows? I do think this has potential to start a Zelda like IP for them. But I think it would help to give the main character some personality in design. Wonder if there are towns and interactions with NPCs?

I'm excited.  Personally, I thought the Intellivision running man looked great, but that's only my opinion.  If enough people voice dislike for it, IE will have it changed.

Overall I think it looked good. I just see this as a good chance to add some more personality. Yeah it worked for the original Intv but there were graphic limitations.

Would Zelda games be as popular if the characters were just simple one color sprites with no personality to them? I think they are missing an opportunity to spruce something up instead of basically using a sprite from almost 40 years ago. Even the bow is black.

Look at this picture from Enter the Gungeon. This player has a crossbow. Graphics, but this game has some personality and it is fun because of that and makes you want to go back for more or try different characters.

It wouldn't hurt to have some things evolve slightly. Same problem I have with the Night Stalker sprites. Just a solid color sprite no personality. Could have done something like Gungeon with different looks and abilities per character, instead of yellow, blue, red, etc. The spider was solid but that went with its creepy nature.

After seeing the trailer, I want to see how the controller works in games. Isn't that what separates Amico from other systems? I hope we see that in next video/trailer.

If I'm not mistaken, Cloudy Mountain was added to the trailer at the last minute so it must be very early.

Yeah. I think most of it looked good. I just didn't like the near 40 year old looking sprite.

They have some creative people I think they could come up with a design that isn't a solid color sprite.

Yeah I do too. Little disappointed the dice rolling is only shown on the phone both times. Other than diagnostics we haven't seen the controller work have we?

With all the recent Pat and Ian talk I found this flashback interesting.

Here is footage of games talked about.

In what context was Pat talking about these? They look absolutely nothing like the current Amico versions if Pat was trying to say they do.

Negative folks have been trying to peg those titles on to Intellivision Entertainment.  They want folks to believe that we did a Kickstarter in the past and failed.  We did not.

To clarify... a former employee of INTV (Intellivision of the mid/late 90's) got the rights from Keith Robinson (Intellivision Productions) to do remakes which started as a Kickstarter project 5 years ago and ended up being part of a VH1 mobile app.  These games and project is in no way associated with us, our company and what we're doing.  The folks who worked on it are GREAT people and good friends.  But nothing to do with us.

Our good buddies Pat & Ian will bring these games up in a failed attempt to try and tear down Amico.  Like a lot of the topics they discuss... they do zero research beforehand.  They just find a topic and start riffing while fumbling around Google in hopes of getting more info on the fly.  It's fine... that's their style and their free to do what they want.  They are an "opinion" show.  Unfortunately... some of their listeners may believe that what they say is fact.

Well Tommy WAS associated with those Kickstarter games in one way...

I actually kinda like the primitive shape graphics of the Shark! Shark! one. It has a certain charm to it.

Yeah. I don't like the Asteroids in the Gen2 but thought the rest of Astrosmash looked okay.

And that was 2 years before I started Intellivision Entertainment.  Shows the complete passion I always had for Intellivison and helping friends.

Yeah it didn't do well as a project but I know of some others who talked about backing it. Least all funds were given back since it didn't get funded.

Based on what's been said I wasn't expecting retro looking blocky graphics, but we've seen it a couple of times.  I do Iike the raw look of the solid colour player character in night stalker; it's not retro looking at all. In multiplayer mode it will help distinguish between players.  AD&D will be multiplayer as well.  I wonder if the night stalker running man style will carry over to other games or will we see more of the blocky running man.  The night stalker developer mentioned there was no directive on this so he made his own interpretation.  There's plenty of time for things to change.  Auto racing and shark shark have already changed.

They said there will be more controller specific videos soon.

You haven't but others have.  I'd be more interested to see how auto racing, and skiing controls with the disc.  The dice action will be exactly the same with the phone and amico controllers.  There's plenty of time between now and release to show more.

He didn't talk about them.  There's a bit of confusion being created here.

They did mention it in their last Amico bashing video... and have mentioned it at least 3 or 4 other videos.

Funds from Kickstarter are never taken unless the project is funded at the end.  So no funds were needed to be given back as they were never collected (because they didn't reach their goal).  Just wanted to clarify how Kickstarter works.

I know how it works. That's why I hate IGG. Especially flex funding. There you can not meet your goal and still keep the funds raised. Some of us were trying to mention those things about another retro company getting back into hardware... 🙄🌮

Ok.  Cool.  I wasn't sure that you were aware because you mentioned the funds for the Gen2 project were given back.

Agreed.  IGG is a lot more risky.  Although I've gotten some great stuff through IGG.  Not to get off-topic, but did you enjoy the lastest Atari announcement where they show a whole bunch of pictures of defective units.  Seriously... who thought that would be a good idea.

"We have a great manufacturer... now lets show you all of the ways they screw up stuff... with MANY MANY pictures!"  From those pics... you can tell their manufacturing is poor... those kinds of issues don't pop up with great places.  Clearly they have not chosen wisely.  Going to cost them big time down the road.  Sad.  :(

Hey question or two (or three) for you all.

Do you think Tommy will number each game?

Should he?

Should we?

The Evercade has numbered cases for each of their cartridges (collections of games) so it's easy to know how many are out.

It'd be nice to know which games were out and when. Itd kind of be collector friendly.

So I think skiing would be # 1 because it was the first announced pack in game

The rest of the pack ins could be 2 through 5 (or 6)

But then there would need to be an order to how to number the numerous "day one" games.

It's a weird thought and some of you might think its unnecessary but the games going forward after launch day are going to come out one at a time AND have a window of 10 to 14 days to shine.

That will make numbering those ones super easy.

When I say numbering I'm talking about on a website or here and not actually on their store front (though they could if they wanted) or in stores.

So the list we have at the beginning of this thread would neatly be numbered and we would never miss a game or have to remember which came out before another or which came out around the same time.  It'd all be right there.

Of course all this could only start when the system launches because we don't know enough information and the list we have now is awesome.

I'd like to play and review each game on YouTube and think having the game numbered along with the name would be super cool and easy for anyone wanting to just pick from a playlist (like how albums have numbered tracks)

I don't know.  Just a thought

Neat idea. Packs ins would get the 1-whatever it ends up being. For day one releases I would just number them alphabetically and give them a number starting after the pack ins accordingly.

My other thought is... I don't think it would be too necessary since not everything would have a physical release. So I'm not sure numbering digital is as big for collecting. The physicals could get a numbering or separate numbering maybe?

Good idea with the physical. I believe Tommy said all physical would have a digital equivalent.

So maybe the physicals would be like a 1a or a 54a something like that.

I agree that for most people the numbering wouldn't be necessary.

I for one am going to number them so when this thing launches I'll ask you all for feedback.

I talked to my kids today (21 and 19 years old) and they both are going to help me with the YouTube stuff.

They have microphones, cameras and even professional lighting.

Its crazy.

I'll write the scripts and do the research then swing by there place and record.

I won't start until we know some of these mysteries surrounding the console because I want it to be more about reviewing the games.

So some pre-launch videos but then post-launch would be once a week review a game.
