Ha unless there is a glitch in the game I don't see that happening.

Lol well maybe the only friend you have to be nice to is the one you will be playing it on. 😉

I don't know, if you're nerdy enough to keep playing and collecting 40 year old consoles and games, sign up into a forum primarily dedicated to retro gaming, I think it's safe to say you're pretty hardcore about gaming.

I would think so but it only seems to heavily reference FPS players anymore. It is funny how the older I get the older the games I lean towards. I guess it's weird that I'm such a heavy Atari player. I'm really a NES and SNES kid.

But yeah why did I sign up for AA all those years ago? Oh right, 2600 homebrews. HARDCORE!

Do you see the retro games as casual? I don't really hear about us retro gamers being referred to as hardcore. I know these will be new games but still have a lot of that retro feel. Are we no longer hardcore?

Good questions...

I'm new to these threads - meaning I didn't even know about Atariage until I heard OEB Pete say that he got information from here.

I came to learn more about the Amico and I dont venture far from the two main threads about that console.

Although I had an Atari 2600 when i was a kid, i dont have any nostalgia for the system or old systems in general.

I collect (or used to collect) for Playstation systems and Nintendo handhelds but I never considered myself hardcore. I kind of feel my collections are "complete" because I really dont have a desire to add to them.

I don't play everyday and I haven't beaten very many games that I do play.

My thoughts on hardcore:

I think people who are passionate for gaming are hardcore.

I would say many people in these forums are hardcore.

It's not a bad word.

Lately people like to say they are hardcore to put others down or to distinguish themselves as somehow better the others.

I haven't seen that here.

I've seen people who are passionate about a topic.

I believe that is the definition of hardcore.

By the way...you all are very welcoming.  I would think people who are hardcore about a topic would welcome more to the fold.

More people to share in their passion.

That's why I don't get the attitude I see when people on YouTube or in online chats say they are hardcore just to belittle "the casuals" or to say phone games "suck" or they belittle one system over the other because it's not "hardcore" enough.

What does that even mean.

They know there are hardcore stamp collectors right?

They know there are hardcore My Little Pony watchers right?

Hardcore just denotes passion and passion isn't wrong though some use it in misguided ways.

Great post and I'm glad you're hear!

You should check out the 2600 homebrew scene. There are some AMAZING homebrews you can get in the AA store.

I would like to think I'm a hardcore but I feel like I'm more of a casual player anymore. Might be partially job/kid/etc. Might be how others define it too.

That's why I've been excited to see the Amico unfold and continue to show what it has. It has a lot of things about it I like.

Thanks

I saw some of the homebrews there but my heart sank when I saw that in order to play on a modern tv you had to buy some sort of retron $70 system which played only Atari carts.

I thought to myself for $70 I could get some more digital games on ps4 or some Japanese psp or vita games.

Or even an Evercade with one cart.

Lol

I don't know. I'm kind of torn between the freshness of homebrew and the relief of finally stopping my crazed obsession with collecting things.

Lol

You want an Atari that plays more than Atari carts? I don't think there are any that play carts for different brands. I mean you can get a modded 7800 that will play both 2600 and 7800 carts, but I'm not sure what exists that plays, say, Atari carts and NES carts.

I just think it's funny that a retron 5 can play nes snes famicom super famicom game boy gbc and gba

And that's all for about 100 dollars

And their Atari one....70 dollars is for only one system.

At that point emulation comes into one's mind....

But I don't want to emulate homebrew that people are selling currently (just like I wouldn't want to emulate ps4 games because I can legally buy them right now)

But it's too cost prohibitive for me to explore Atari at this point.

I do often get game carts for gba and ds that are free homebrews but people put them on a cart so you can play on original hardware. That's fun.  I buy them on Etsy.

But buying an Atari system to collect homebrew games at this point would be a bridge too far for me.

I'm scaling down my collection.

Amico will be the last system I buy new.

I am going to give my 19 year old my CRT because I just dont have the room.

And I just got my Dreamcast, wii and original xbox all hooked up to a flat screen tv.

Easier to manage as they all can fit behind the tv.

People ask for such things for Atari, but all we get are ten flashbacks and the RetroN77.

The retron5 and retron77 are all software emulation.  You can hook-up a small computer to your TV and get better emulation.

That's why you go with Analogue instead. Their Picket looks awesome.

Pocket change. 🤑 They are at least well made and not emulation.

If I didn't already own so many of the handhelds the Pocket is a good deal.

Too be fair, they’re like $200 retail, but Analogue quits making what it sells after a few months, then the eBay/Amazon price goes sky-high. Although, no or iffy light gun games on modern TVs. Also, if your a cart fan, they can only use one or two kinds of carts, unless you have the sold out adapters for the Mega SG, now also solid platinum pricing.

I'm sorry but an FPGA or clone console will never be worth 900 dollars.

$200 isn't bad but RetroUSB's AVS sits around $180 and I think that's a much more fair price. You can't tell the difference between 720p NES games and 1080p NES games on a 4K tv.

Yeah light situation on modern TVs is a bummer. :(

They were about $180, I think. I’m just estimating, when we’re comparing to $900. It’s kind of a moot point now, after all.

people are paying it all day long on ebay.  right now there's dozens of auctions selling the nt mini.   remember too that it's a lot more than NES, does 1080p, and there's 17 other cores to play with.  the nt mini has the best 2600 FPGA core, and some really obscure things (gamate, supervision) that aren't available elsewhere.  the AVS is fine if you want bare bones.  but if you want some meat on dem bones, you move on up to the nt mini.

if it wasn't worth the price, it wouldn't have sold out so fast, and then go for double the price on ebay within minutes.

There's community firmware discussed on this site for the Retron 77 that uses the latest version of Stella, making it just as good as using your PC.

Random mostly Amico-related question: for those of you who bought stuff from the Intellivision store, how long did it take for you to get your golden ticket? Mine hasn't shown up yet and I got my stuff about maybe 2 weeks ago or so. Maybe it was 3? I really can't remember. No rush, but just curious.
