Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

I see that you are a big Microvision collector!  So cool!!  One of my favorites growing up.  My original one got lost somewhere between all my moves in the mid to late 80's.

I bought one off Ebay a few years back with some of the big ass carts but the screens were barely readable so I haven't really played in 40 years.

:(

Any tips on where to find a good one?

UPDATE:  I just saw this on Ebay!
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1979-Milton-Bradley-Microvision-Game-New-Replacement-LCD-Display-PREORDER/224090610358?hash=item342cd75ab6:g:YGgAAOSwLndfu-xk

How easy is it to change the screen?

MY version of the LCD replacement screen is a couple of months away. If you can wait, you'll save yourself $10. Long story; not for this thread. ;)

Figure on 20 minutes to replace.

Oh wow!  Holy crap!  You are into Microvision!!  Making your own screens!

Count me in.

And Arcadia 2001 multicart as well!!?!?!

You sir... ROCK!!!

Was there anyone crazy enough to do a Microvision home brew?

Also... what the heck is this?

Whenever I spent time with Jay Smith (for those who don't know... the creator of Microvision) I always talked to him about Vectrex and never Microvision.

(For those who don't know... yes... same guy who created Vectrex too!).

Was just reading the Wiki page and found this passage to be extremely interesting and something I wasn't aware of...

"According to Satoru Okada, the former head of Nintendo's R&D1 Department, the Microvision gave birth to the Game & Watch after Nintendo designed around Microvision's limitations.[7]"

All quirky systems, it seems... . Probably the Intellivision is a bit quirky, too (compared to the competition at the time).

That eBay link is for one of the European games. They're the same as the NA games (with different names) except there's a Super Blockbuster not released in NA.

There's a few homebrews, at least in ROM format. None in physical form (at least in qty. > 1) that I'm aware of... yet... . ;)

Ah!  Yeah... that's what I was thinking.  Same game... different European name.

You got any of those Arcadia 2001 multicarts left?  If so, I want!

Also put me down for a Microvision screen.  I left a comment on the pre-order thread as well.

Tommy,

how about Wild Western by Taito, this could be really good fun making it multiplayer. You could do 1v7, 4v4, do it like the bad guys have unlimited lives until all goog guys run out of lives, stop the bad guys hi jacking the train etc.....you could ad loads of different modes. 👍😀

Nice!!!

I believe @cmart604 has over 100 of them.

:)

What are those going for these days??

I believe it was one of less than 10 of the boxes that were made.

There are probably a few more of the carts out there.

I won mine in an auction for the last 4 unsold carts that came complete with the custom made box. At that point I am sure C-mart already had his!😊

I believe my bid was $130. and that was around 3 years ago.

The same gentleman made my box for my Blix! cart as well.

The Blix! cart was made for CGE 2014 in Vegas and limited to 30 but there are most likely less than 10 boxes made for that game.

Yep!  I got one of those 10 boxes!  I believe I either purchased it or Michael gave it to me at CGE 2014.

God, I miss that show!!

Hi!,

Thanks for joining in on the conversation!

Yep!  We have both online leaderboards and local leaderboards.  And the online leaderboards can be separated into weeks, months, year and all-time as well as state & countries!

It's pretty cool.  We have 3 programmers dedicated on this for awhile now.

Local leaderboards ! Yes !!!!!! That’s what I want

Imagine an "app" where you could load in music from a USB and Amico would do an on screen video show as well as light show on the console & controllers (and you could use the controllers to interact or change the visuals.

Please put a microphone (from a controller) mode in there too, so it'll do visualizations if someone is playing vinyl or, say, Spacebar Arcade has one running for visuals behind the bar.

That was a great game.  Used the same turning dial/fire button as Front Line.

Two fantastic games from Taito.

Howdy all,

Not to brag, but I need to brag today. My dad just gave me our family Intellivision II from storage. I haven't played this since the 90's and am plugging it in now to see if it still fires up...

My parents gave me the Intellivision II when they were purging their basement a few years ago. I didn't have much room but I took it anyways which was a good thing -- their basement had 5 feet of flood water less than 6 months later. You still have the manuals too! I had to google the pdfs or look on ebay

Tommy,

I for one would love to see you making a music video like this celebrating the launch of the Amico and the return of 80's-style feel good vibes, featuring you and some of your friends etc dancing and singing along!

S'Express - Hey Music Lover - YouTube

What do you reckon? I think it'd be awesome! Like the Amico's answer to the DK Rap!

Nice song! How do you embed Youtube video's into the post? I was hoping it'd happen automatically, but I guess not!

Brag away my friend!

Isn't that is what Thanksgiving is really all about?  Going over your parents house and getting stuff back from your childhood!

:)

Did you ever play the original Intellivision?  Or just the Intellivision II?

I feel bad for people who had to endure just the Intellivision II as the controllers were so much worse (keypad & side buttons) than the originals.

Although I like the compact design and swap-able controllers, I was never a big fan of INTV II after having played the original for so long.

I'm curious...

How many people in here ONLY had Intellivision II growing up?  And if so... do you think the original design isn't as good because you only knew the INTV II and got used to it?

The video says it's "UNAVAILABLE IN YOUR COUNTRY" so I wasn't able to see it (maybe why it didn't embed either).

The idea sounds horrifying though.  I am the music maker and I am the dreamer of the dreams...  I certainly don't dance to it!

You wouldn't like that too much.  Hahhahaha!

🕺😱🤢🤮

🤣
