Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Not sure about sears stores but intellivision was in the 1981 sears catalog but not 1980.

if my memories serves me right, who knows at this point  ( what day is it?  :))  I think 1980 was the real first year it hit, but some places did get a shipment of consoles and a few games just before xmas in 1979.  Ours came from a sporting good store just before xmas in Philly and I'm not saying it had mob ties, ( looks around) but  Im just saying that store would get all sorts of top end electronics at very weird times, no one asked any questions.

Anything is possible.  We do know that Philadelphia was one of three cities that gte sylvania was selling their intellivision in 1979.

Did you get yours?  How's the quality and how big is it?  I was looking at the Baseball one, but I like that football as well.

No, I didn't buy one.  If I did, I'd get the Vectrex one.  They all look neat.  The shadow box versions cost the most.  The desktop versions are cheaper.

I bought the Night Stalker, Football and Shark Shark.  A little pricey, but they look great and my daughter will love the Shark Shark as an Xmas present.

I know it was 79 due to the fact that I remember me and my brothers had money given to us by our grandparents on Xmas to buy more games, but there werent any.  And as they trickled out in 1980, me and my brothers bought every single one as they came out. I plan to do the same thing with the Amico as a remembrance to my older brother who I lost many years ago.

Hmmm, thanks for the info. I'm not based in the US, so not sure how much of an issue that'd be, but will look into it some more.

I get the business side of it, but there is a huge demand for nostalgic games that companies just aren't properly taking advantage of. Which is why I'm psyched for Amico.

Maybe Intellivision can do a deal for some of those Sega games! I bought Virtua Racing on the Japanese e-shop, I couldn't wait for it to come out in the West! It's the only game I've done that with. I know Sega is bringing out a mini console with Virtua Fighter on it, along with a bunch of 2D games, sadly. I already have Outrun, Hang On, Space Harrier etc on the 3DS, as well as owning Shenmue and Shenmue 2.

I never got into the Earthbound games, WarioWare was a cool series of course.  Metroid Prime 4 is meant to be coming to the Switch, but seems to be going through major issues, so who knows what will happen there.

Yeah, Sony seems to be more on point with the nostalgia side of things, but I don't have much, if any, nostalgia for stuff like Ratchet and Clank or MediEvil. Hopefully the Amico will go full nostalgia overload! The Intellivision was a bit before my time, but I do love retro games, as well as retro inspired games. And looking at some of the games for the original Intellivision it definitely seems like I've been missing out!

I would target Android initally.  Not PC.

I thought he may be involved with the hardware side of things, based on his avatar and user name! I also suspected the Amico may be Android based, since it seems like a smart way to go. Hmmm, I guess I'll have to look into it what's involved, I've created builds for PC, New 3DS and HTML5 (in GameMaker) before, but not Android.

So to answer the question.  No... the company didn't all move in on December 1st as we have been planning for the past few months.

That's a shame, I heard quite a lot of people in California moved to places like Texas over the severe lockdowns.

Here's an interesting thing that just happened.

As you know, FIFA is one of the best selling games out there. In Europe is constantly at number 1 and even in the US it was the best selling game last month for the first time.

However, FIFA has 2 big problems: 1) Loot boxes and 2) Lack of innovations on gameplay and animations for the past 5 years.

What's interesting is that people in online message boards are constantly attacking the game, to the point that their latest next-gen FIFA 21 trailer has received 2x negative votes than positive ones and is currently full of negative (and hilarious) comments about the lack of innovations except for the sweat and hair in close-ups.

We all know the Amico will not have loot boxes, but what's interesting is how millions of people buy this product completely unaware of Youtube comments and online message boards. It really shows how much of a bubble the Internet can be, even if sometimes (such as in this case) Internet users have the most informed opinion.

If most people are like me they go to youtube to watch videos not read comments.  And in general social media is not representative of any community.  There's usually a very small fraction of people that post the overwelming majority of comments.

The major league sports games do have this thing going where they come out with a new version every year for no other reason than updating the player database.  And many people pay full price every year.  Is that correct.

Don’t forget that licensed sports franchises like FIFA are effectively monopolies. People protest by downvoting the video and posting on message boards but these very same people buy the game each year. They really have no choice if they want the latest teams and rosters these games have. Like most monopolies their service sucks but you have no choice so people rant and rave but keep on buying.
