Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Tommy,

I think you mentioned Battlezone for Amico. What about Robot Tank?  It's similar but it's an Activision game.  So, I know it won't be on Amico unless the console is successful.  And Amico will be successful no doubt about it.

This is one of the games I played the most at my friend's house with Pitfall and Raiders of the Lost Ark on the Atari 2600 ! 😃

Hey guys,

Just a friendly reminder that today is the last Amico All Access podcast for 2020.  This one is special because it's a Q&A with Tommy.  I can't wait for it, see you there.

By the way I posted the video for this a few days ago on here.  See post below.

Raiders of the Lost Ark on the Atari 2600

Didn’t have a 2600 (or any other Atari) growing up, but Raiders was on of my favorites when I’d go to my friends house. It will be a great day when this gets released on Amico.

If we don't get Pac-Man on Amico, this could be an option.  It's basically the same concept but with several unique features such as the ability to hide from the enemy.

For some reason, this reminds me of K.C. Munchin on the Odyssey 2.   Looks cool.

An issue that modern parents need to deal with and that Amico takes care of.

6-year-old racked up over $16K on his mom's credit card

I totally get it that it's the parents responsibility... but that's my issue with a lot of this type of stuff is that a good number of parents don't even know their kids can do these kinds of things... and some of them unfortunately seem to find out the hard way.

Wondering if anyone here has had family or friends with similar types of stories?

When we were doing a lot of in-person focus testing (back when we could!) we would hear these types of stories all the time.  A lot of the parents that would share their stories with us said they knew that mobile was like that, but didn't realize they could do things like that on the Switch.  So that's where most of them were getting burned.

i'm so late to this party, I'm just now realizing that Tommy Tallarico is the actual topic starter to this thread. I'm also a former Massachusetts resident.  I first learned your name playing the brilliant Cool Spot game on the Sega Genesis, but it was your work on Earthwork Jim that really turned me into a fan.  Music is just so important in a game and we have you to thank for smashing down that door.

Yo!  Better late than never!  :)

Great to have ya!

Do you own an arcade in NC?  If so, got any pics you'd like to share?  I'm sure everyone here would love to reminisce.

What part of Mass did you live?  I was born & raised in Western Mass.  Springfield to be exact.  You?

Thank-you for the kind words about my music.  Earthworm Jim & Cool Spot were definitely 2 of my favorites to work on back in the early 90's.  Disney's Aladdin was another one from that team/era.

Most of the people who did the original Cool Spot & Earthworm Jim games now work at Intellivision and/or are working on Amico games!

Also, thanks for having such a passion for the Intellivision. Growing up, I came from a family that didn't have a lot of money so we never had any of the consoles. My best friend had the Intellivision and I have such fond memories of this system. Eventually, me and my brothers pooled our odd job money (paper routes, allowance, shovelling snow, etc) and we got a used Intellivision from the print version of the want ads. Never owned any of the Atari systems, never could afford the NES or Colecovision so we had to wear out that Intellivision.

Wow!  Great story.  Thanks for sharing.  Yeah, kids these days don't understand that for the most part, folks only ever had one video game system at a time per household/era.  And when you did get one... it was a special day that many remember for the rest of their lives.  Very cool that you all pooled your money together... I bet you really appreciated it so much more because of that.

What a great system ahead of it's time. So many interesting games, especially from Imagic. I know you've got some of them coming, but I hope you can eventually get the entire Image catalog.

That is definitely the goal!

The Amico sounds perfect for me. I love modern games but at my age I've been going retro lately, mostly thanks to emulation. I've rediscovered all the classic coin ops from the late 70's and 1980's (and some from the 90's) that were a huge part of my childhood. There is just an endless supply of these forgotten classics that would have a nice home on the Amico. Anything from Stern Electronics.  I've recently been playing Great Swordsman and Gladiator from Allumer. Another hidden gem is an old game called The Pit. I could go on and on be we've begged enough....haha.

I jumped right on the Amico when it was available.  I can't wait for it to come out, but am happy to do so. Take your time, finish the product, do it safely and we will be patient.

Thank you for the support!

And yes... absolutely!  Our #1 objective is to put out Amico when we are happy with it... and not a second before.

Hope to see you around these parts more often!

Not sure what the benefit would be of having to pay for a license for a game design that doesn't need the name (that most people may not have heard of).

The important thing about licensed products is the name... OR... a really super unique game design that no one else ever did.

So this one would be a tough one to want to add to the list.

:)

Ideas for holiday themed games:

1. A holiday RPG.

2. Easter game where you are the bunny looking for the hidden eggs.

3. Halloween game where you fight off skeletons and ghouls.

4. Thanksgiving game where you are the turkey.  It could be like the Untitled Goose game but call it Untitled Turkey game.  Lol.

5. A Christmas game where you play as a Nutcracker.  And you must rescue Santa from the evil elves.  There are also toy robots after you.  They can shoot lasers.  Luckily you have a sword and shield to defend yourself with.  The shield can block and deflect the lasers back at the robot.  Which in turn blows them up.  Lol.  Plus there are wind up toy mice that move about.  You must jump over them because if they hit you they blow up since they're bombs.

These are all GREAT ideas and games I would want to play!

Yeah, something like Pac Man would be a great fit for the Amico, such an elegantly designed game. I've recently been playing a bit of Pac Man Championship Edition DX+, as well as the Gameboy version of Lock N Chase. Both very cool evolutions of the originals. It would also be great to see games like Rod Land, Parasol Stars or Bubble Bobble on the Amico.

I understand.  I just figured since the gameplay was similar to Battlezone it could work.  And if Battlezone wasn't possible for Amico, then you have this as another option.  As far as the name, you could change it.  Call it Super Tank.  Lol.
