Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Recommended Posts

@Tommy Tallarico ... you’ve announced several of my favorites, but here are a few I’d love to see that haven’t been (or I’ve missed it if you have) mentioned.

Dark Tower

Thunder Castle

Golf (especially this one)

Anyway, could the astronaut be waving at the player or something like that to break the frozen effect? Just a minor tweak hopefully. Otherwise, it's perfect.

I like this idea.  I think it would be cool to see that.

These games have been mentioned before by me and others on here.  I would like to see a re-imagined Thunder Castle for sure.

My apologies. I hope nobody minds me bringing them up again. I’m reading through the old posts but there’s a lot of material to cover. I’ll try and be more careful when I post next time.

No problem.  It's all good.  If you want to find old posts faster, there's a search bar at the top.  You can type in what you're looking for and it'll give you results based on key words.

Thanks for the tip. As an owner of the original Intellivision (with voice pak), I can hardly wait until the Amico gets released!

You don't have to apologize.  This site is chill.

I just watched the Astrosmash video again.  The more I watch it, the more impressed I get.

The music of the game is so good and synchronized with the action (like when there is a pause before the meteor shower, then boom!).  Super impressed.

Unbelievable that the game is a "packin".

This thing is going to blow doors!

Would be interesting to see which other games you can dual-wield with those controllers!

Game looks great but I was also not a fan of the main menu games being listed on an angle.

Agree somewhat with you about the games being listed on an angle.. I do like the concept of the angle, it just looks off to me presented at such a skew.  Maybe too drastic?  I don't know, I know it's an older UI and hope a few variations of this display are going through some focus groups.

I do like the clockwise cycling through, like you were turning a giant dial or disc though.. if only Intellivision had a circular, disc-y thing associated with it that may be subtley introduced here, incorporated into the menu like this was being dialed and each genre was placed on it... mental wheel is spinning but turning a blank here, we'll have to circle back to it I guess.

Actually there may not be enough room to display enough of disc to convey that theme, or it may crowd the text worked into the arc.

Great video for Astrosmash.

But I was really curious to freeze the screen when they were choosing the game ...

Colossal Crash seems to be the new name for the game Side Swippers.

We have Dolphin Quest, Flying Circus, Back Tack Party, Snafoo and Safe Cracker ( I am happy to see it's still there. )

On the second screen, from the ACTION menu :

First we saw at the top of the screen, from the previous Menu (Sports) :

Darts !  That's cool !    We also have soccer !

And lower on the screen we have Auto Racing, Cats with Swords, Centipede, Fox & Forest and Earthworm Jim ! :)

So that are some titles that I was really happy to see ! :)

Thank you Tommy and John and Happy New Year !

We actually have the real Hot Wheels Colossal Crash in our house so it will be fun to have a game that is connected to the real deal.

Cats with swords makes me think of this:

Just showed my dad (who’s 78 years old) the new Astrosmash video and he was so impressed he’s preorder one. Thought Astrosmash looked amazing, used to play the original one back in the early 80s. Also he loved the way you can turn the controller around, and was amazed that the games are going to cost £10 or less. I’m looking forward to playing this with him and my wife. 👍😀

Right.  I know this is an early beta, so who knows how it looks refined.  The angle is too much and I would prefer it straight.  It is like when someone goes a little crazy with fonts and effects in a Powerpoint.  Sometimes less is more. Other than that the UI looks good.

That video of the crab holding a knife is hilarious.  Thanks for sharing.

I know.  The world needs "Poorly Titled Crab Game" where crabs dutifully cause mischief to beachgoers, stealing picnics, wrecking sandcastles, just absolute Bastards of the Beach.  Ooh, name idea!  Not on Amico.. but.. nah, House House or Panic earned the follow-up rights on that one.  This crab though... needs more views.  Or, just for people to keep their friggin distance.  It's been a rough day/year.

::sidesteps stage left.  crab waddles stage left.  whatever::

Happy New Year to everyone, and a special one for Tommy Tallarico that started this thread ! Thank you for everything.

I also have a question. Covid is desastrous for hardware advancement. But what about software ?

Do you think EWJ 4 can still be launch for december 2021 ?

Definitely hard to test co-op software when only 2 or 3 people can be in a room together!

That being said... I won't give a date for EWJ 4 until we're 100% sure and 100% done.  We won't rush it.  If it's 2022... so be it.  It needs to be as perfect as possible. And that usually takes extra time.

A lot of the team working on Earthworm Jim (including myself!) is still tied up with a ton of other things... so the creation and development is slower than usual.  But once we're up and running full steam... it will be awesome!  We all did Aladdin, Cool Spot, Global Gladiators, EWJ 1, EWJ 2 all within 7 - 9 months!  And all of those games won Game of the Year awards at some point.  :)
