I have to disagree. I think it makes perfect sense and this will be the future of gaming as well as all computing in the future. Just like company business servers, 10 years ago every company etc had to have their own physical run client side servers, now, you would have to be nuts to run your own servers client side. Why would you when AWS etc does it better and at pennies on the dollar.  The same will be for consumer products soon ( in the next decade)  Why have a hodge podge of hardware being run client side when it can all be done in the cloud by the fastest servers on earth.  Yes, right now the only bottle neck is internet speed, but thats more of a US issue as we trail far behind most of the world with our internet speeds, so our networks will have to be upgraded anyway in order to keep up with the world. In the near future I think everyone will just have dumb monitor stations at home and work while the heavy lifting will all be done server side and everyone will just be required to have subscriptions to whatever they need.  There might be one more console gen, but possibly not.  Just like business servers everything is going to the cloud.

Before that happens I plan to go live with the Amish.  Screw big companies having that picture of my nekkid arse in their servers.  No one.. I mean no one wants to see that!  Well maybe a few bears?

Bring me back to the good old days of 8bit Computers and BBS. ;-)

So, I played the Apple Arcade game Sneaky Sasquatch. Someone mentioned this game on here a few days ago.  I only tried it out for a few minutes but from what I've seen, it's unique and fun.  Something like this on Amico would be cool.

Hopefully some cute'um ups come to Amico.  I know this was mentioned before on here but the Cotton Reboot is coming to Switch & PS4.  Perhaps a Cotton game can be on Amico.  There are 7 games in the series if you don't count the remake.

I think, The Legend Of The Valkyrie by Namco, would be a good game for the Amico. 👍😀

This looks like a good game.  I believe it's on the Turbo Grafx 16 mini which I have.  I'll need to check it out.  And hopefully this comes to Amico.

You might be right and in 10 years, this might be the way to go. But it just seems to me like they're going about it backwards. I think they're trying to go toe to toe with products like Xbox and PlayStation, but the tech just isn't there yet. I'm not going to be able to play a game in 4K and surround sound with the internet that I have. My datacap would stop me after 20 minutes. This may be the future of gaming, just like OnLive was a peak at the future, but it's not the "now" of gaming. It offers something that is supposed to be like what the other guys offer, but not as consistent. Music streaming was interesting long ago, but it wasn't until bandwidth speeds caught up to provide a consistent performance. If someone had created Spotify during the dial-up days, it would have failed miserably.

I just think they would have been better to go with a different approach and start with simpler games and worked their way up. Like what if Nintendo had its Virtual Console that just worked with a Fire Stick or Roku? Simple games that would work really well even on poor internet connections, and the price of entry would be minimal. It would bring people into games that don't want to drop $500 for a console. Stadia is not exactly trying to go after casual gamers, but rather the hardcore audience. How is that working out for them?

I'm a couple of days behind, so this may not be germane to the current convo, but I ran across this article while I was "working".

Intellivision was the first videogame console to be integrated into a car (concept car). I thought it was pretty cool.

the tech is there and as people has said, stadia works well in countries that actually have decent internet. The US has fallen dreadfully behind the rest of the world in internet speeds, so its not that the tech isnt there, its that the US hasnt rolled it out and made it available to the masses in the US.  Certain areas in the US are fine, Hell I can see the comcast towers from my house and my internet speed is blazing fast but that cant be said to be the case for say people in Idaho and therein lies the issue.

Wow that is amazing, I never knew that existed even as a concept. Amazingly the trend of a video game system in a car continues today with the new Tesla Model S. It has an AMD NAVI 23 GPU, 10 teraflops of processing power (just a bit below a PS5) and can play Witcher Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077 (among many others): https://electrek.co/2021/01/29/tesla-new-gaming-computer-compete-xbox-steam/

Roughly 40 years later and we are at full circle. Plus the Tesla is still sporting some wood grain from the era:

I didn't know ford had ever done anything like that. The tech they crammed into that thing is impressive. That Tesla interior is awful pretty.

Speaking from the perspective of a retro gamer who also loves indie games, I'm interested in the Amico just for the fact that it is taking a different approach than the other current consoles on the market. I'd rather pay once for a console that will last ~10 years and have it be "underpowered" and see unique games that take advantage of the hardware, rather than paying out the nose for a marginal harware refresh for huge games made by huge teams that are mostly focused on pushing polygons. I'm getting hardware cycle fatigue and don't want a repeat of The Great Console Crash of '83 anytime soon.

Ah yes, so it is, must of missed it on there. Doesn’t have the scaling like the arcade one, but plays well.👍😀

I don't think that it's ever been ruled out that 5 or so years down the line An Amico Pro be introduced.  OR a 32x type USBc attachment. (I'm sure it will look better than that).  Keeping backwards compatibility of course. If the market demands. Depending on what Snapdragon is in the current Amico, we may be more than OK for quite a while. If it's an "off the shelf" version, Devs should be able to take advantage of it. If it happens to be a customized version, we probably have not seen near it's full potential. I also think Tommy and Company have a few tricks up their collective sleeves that we have yet to see. It's just great that we are all part of this process. :)  We have a fun road ahead.

In a way it does feel like I've been here since the beginning.  And back then I was still known as Atari Master.

I second that!!!! I've been here longer and am humbled by the speed, fun , and thoughtfulness you bring to your posts. Not just uploading videos before some of the content creators, including Tommy. But some of the games you have suggested. And topics as well. Thanks for keeping some of the quieter days more lively!!!!

I remember the name switch! Because you brought up the dates, I took a little trip down memory lane since I had forgotten some of this stuff:

  • I first really got onboard wanting an Amico on October 24th, 2018. I know that because it was this Rerez interview that convinced me: https://youtu.be/OvEkBGUxWDE
  • It looks like I found AtariAge on July 4th 2019 while Tommy started this thread February 23, 2019, so I missed about 4 1/2 months of the bandwagon
  • September 13th 2019 I got invited to be a mod over at r/Amico on Reddit
  • I got to meet Tommy at a Video Games live concert November 2nd, 2019. Got to see some early video of skiing and fell in love with a game I had no idea I would like
  • January 27th, 2020 got a few Founders Editions on order because you can never have too many ;)

I thought it was the 28th when the pre-orders started.  I went back and checked the email.  PayPal sent the receipt on 1/28 but the pre-order confirmation was on the 1/27.  Also, I fixed my original post about this from 1/28.  I was off by one day but that's okay.

Honestly I wasn't 100% sure on that date either so went off of an article and an email I *think* 27 is correct

It is correct.  PayPal threw me off with the 1/28.  It's their fault, lol.  They should've sent the receipt the same day as the pre-order.  Not sure why they couldn't.
