Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Recommended Posts

I'm very excited about the Amico and what gaming awesomeness it will bring us, despite that fact that one of my podcasting partners is involved. Nurmix represents all that I despise in this world.....or maybe we're pretty much the same person. 😂 Sometimes I feel bad for Rick. 🤔Speaking of which, when are you going to be on the podcast Tommy?

A good time will probably be after E3 when we'll have a little more room to breath. Everything is 24/7 focused on E3 right now.

Can't wait to share what we've accomplished... and of course... can't wait to do the podcast!! :)

I assume a part of them will be. ;)

Virtual Will? :lolblue:

Yes, I assume one of the trio (or is it more of a quartet now?) will be there.

But will he be able to record some audio (and hopefully video) during his time there

Great news! I'm pretty sure Paul knows how to get a hold of you. A post E3 discussion would make lots of sense.

Tommy, I know it was stated as a "maybe" back in February, but has Intellivision Entertainment decided since then whether they will be at PRGE?

Thank you Amico Tommy to reply to each one of us. :)

For us fans,It's like if E3 would be in 6 months ! We are hyped ! But for you and your team, it's probably like it will be tomorrow and you are hard at work and don't want to forget anything and want to be prepared well !

Like I said in an earlier post, I can not wait ! So I am digging and digging to find any new information possible ! lol But instead what I am founding is old ! :(

1- I have found footage from 2013 and 2015 for a new astrosmash and a new Shark Shark ( Gen2 ) create by David Warhol if I remember well. Are these the same 2 games that will be on the Amico console?

2- Can you tell us some more games that will be available at launch ? :) Your Moon Patrol maybe ? I am looking forward to play it ! :)

3- Are you working to have Colecovision rights to produce game ? (If you can tell us)

4- Will one or more of these game can be made on the Amico ? Tutankham, Pitfall, Ladybug, mousetrap ?

Thanks.

What colecovision games are you thinking of? A few titles already announced did have colecovision versions such as centipede, burgertime, miner 2049er, dragonfire.

These are ColecoVision games, no doubt, but as re-imagined works, I expect their assignment to what console or to arcade is more nebulous. Perhaps you (LePionnier) mean exclusive ColecoVision games that are not on Intellivision or were not in the arcades, or the option to play the original ColecoVision versions of the games as an option. Could you clarify.

Hi Mr_me and Swami.

Yeah, can be confusing I agree. I am not aware how it works and who has rights for games ! Publisher, Developers, etc.

I remembered playing games like Tutankham, Ladybug, mousetrap and Rocky at my friend house with his Colecovision.

But some of them were also on Intellivision and/or Atari but didn't know that. So I was talking mostly for games.

If it was on Intellivision, probably they can let us play the original game, but I don't know if they need rights to remade them !?

Same thing with Pitfall. That was an Activision game, so probably they have to agree something with them !?

Thank you. :)

If Konami maintained trademarks on Tutankham, for example, you'd need their permission to publish a new game with Tutankham in it's name. If you were to republish the old Intellivision or Colecovision versions of Tutankham you'd need Konami's permission as well as whoever owns the parker brothers game code rights which might be Atari/Infogrames. Parker Brothers did contract out intellivision cartridge programming and sometimes the developer did retain copyrights to their code but in the case of Intellivision Tutankham, the cartridge label says it was parker brothers.

Not sure at this point. Lots of things going on... too far out to make a decision yet. Probably won't know until the end of summer.

Hi!,

There is a reason you are only finding old info. Because we need to be quiet about a lot of things until the right time for them to be revealed. :) Too early causes a lot of problems.

1. No! Those are NOT the versions that will be on the Amico. Our versions are much different... especially in art style and modes of play.

2. I can't. Sorry. But I will say there will be at least 40 games.

3. We have been approached by them... but I'm not sure there is anything that stands out that was super original and without a license attached to it. I'm open for recommendations, but it would need to have been pretty popular for us to consider. There were a LOT of arcade ports on the Colecovision. It's one of my favorite consoles, but there wasn't a lot of original IP that came out of it. Even stuff like the Smurfs & ROCKY boxing have licenses attached and make them very difficult to get (and I don't believe the gameplay holds up on either of those).

4. At least 2 of them. Eventually... not on launch though.

And Parker Brothers is now owned by Hasbro.... but sometimes (like in the case of Bally/Midway) the game library is sold to another company altogether (in the case of the Bally/Midway stuff, it's now owned by Warner Bros). Complicated stuff sometimes. :)

I am relieved ! :)

By the way, did David Warhol and/or John Sohl are on your great team ?

Have a nice day.

How does this work? Colecovision as a company is long gone. Are you talking about those Riverwest brand squatters when you say you've been approached? If so, they don't have rights to anything at all except an ongoing attempt to claim ownership and licensing rights to the Colecovision brand mark do they?

If it's someone else you're talking about, I'd be interested to know who has any rights ownership for any of the game content that was released on the Colecovision. As you mention, most were licensed from somebody else or ported from an arcade machine. A couple generic sports or card games and Cabbage Patch Kids are the only ones that come to mind that may have been owned fully by Coleco at the time, but that doesn't translate to some squatter claiming most recent use of the logo left in the trash heap.

Hasbro did sell Hasbro Interactive to Infogrames (now Atari). Did that not include parker brothers and coleco video games. Who owns Imagic?

For the third time I was listening "Intellivision Live Stream - Earthworm Jim" ! lol

A "couch multiplayer" game, and most of the games will be made with this in mind. And I agree.

Then I was thinking at one of my favorite times in the 90, playing Super Smash TV with a friend.

Do you have this game or a game like this that will come to Intellivision Amico ?

Controlling with the touch screen and aiming with the disc ! That will be great !

And is there a way to know after we subscribe to intellivisionentertainement that we can have the special console ? :)

Amico has a strong local multiplayer focus. Is this machine going to be worth it for online play? Will it be invite only to join a game or will there be public matchmaking? Out of those 40 launch title are most them going to be able to go online or maybe only a handful? Thanks, really excited for the E3 gameplay in a few weeks!

The console will not have online multiplayer on launch. There are a number of reasons for this decision.

1. It's very expensive and complicated and takes a long time to get it right. Just ask Nintendo. :) Doing what we're doing already takes a lot of time and resources. We felt we would be trying to do too much by incorporation online multiplayer on launch. Consoles in the past (Nintendo for example) have added multiplayer after launch. If there is enough want/need for it... we can address it after launch.

2. It takes away from our message of "people in a room playing together".

We will have Leaderboards, Achievements, etc. on launch... but designing games for online multiplayer is an extremely daunting and expensive task (literally almost doubles the budgets of some games). We could easily fall into the trap of trying to do too much... and we don't want that.

We also don't like the "openess" and "bullying" that happens via online gaming. Online gaming in general is not very family friendly. Think about all those casual and non-gamer folks who purchased a Wii... none of them cared about online gaming. When we do online multiplayer, it will be set up more like a Facebook account... meaning... you will need to ACCEPT a friend request in order to play that person. It won't just be an open system where a bunch of strangers play together (unless it's a tournament situation which we will control).

Hope that all makes sense. Thanks for the question.

Will there be any way to publish games developed in GameMaker Studio 2 to Amico? (Using the word "publish" in terms of creating an executable directly from GameMaker Studio 2 via one of their built-in exporter modules, not in terms of being a publisher of a retail or download title. For example, with the Developer license of GameMaker, you can publish to Windows/MacOS; with the Console license, you can publish to Xbox One, PS4, Switch, etc.)
