Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

If you go back and play... there aren't actually that many original Intellivision games (at least that we are remaking) that utilize 2 buttons on the same side.  I mean... did anyone really use the "pass" button in hockey?   :)

Hope that helps to answer your question and feel free to ask me more.

Definitely used the lower side button with intellivision soccer, not only to pass but to move the goalie; also to throw a pass in football, hit a lob in tennis, jump in skiing.  Because these games will be emulated, the upper and lower side buttons can be mapped to the Amico touchpad as virtual buttons.

Stop playing with cheaters! The 6 counts! No matter where in the house it lands. Even if it bounced off the table & flew into the sink & dropped into the garbage disposal. Get a flashlight & find out where it landed on!

... and how well did that rule work out for Will Byers... lol!

Haha yeah I was thinking about Beavis and Butthead when I read cornhole. TBH I had no idea it was even a game until Tommy said it. I guess it’s an American thing?

For me cornhole is more of a rural northern and maybe east coast United States thing, while folks in the south play horseshoes more. No science behind any of that - just my hillbilly background talking. I am hoping horseshoes also makes the Amico motion game list - I know my mom would have had a ball with being able to play when the weather wasn't good outside. That woman could pitch a mean game of horseshoes and one of the first things I had to do when she bought a new house was dig two pits and put in some stakes.

I don't think I would want virtual buttons to replace the lower buttons.  With no tactile feedback, it would be hard to play ( I think? )

Bowling used both lower buttons!

Intellivision golf used all three side buttons like bowling did.  But they aren't exactly action games so it doesn't matter where the buttons are.  Intellivision bowling controls are a little convoluted; it could have been done with a single button.  Even football didn't need to have separate upper and lower button actions.

Virtual buttons would be an option because you still have real buttons on the controller.  I think that's how Amico moon patrol is done, two virtual buttons on the touchpad can be used or the two shoulder buttons; whichever you prefer.

I was just adding Bowling as an example,  the left buttons moved the bowler.  Could have been the disc?  But I guess over 40 years we get used to things!

AND no..  For bowling, they were not action buttons!   Well, they caused an action... But I know what you are saying :)

Football?  Hmmm, I don't remember having to change hike and pass buttons?

I was thinking Super Pro Football,  Top button was Rec1 and Bottom button was Rec2  or the other way around?

All I can say is thank god they didn't make you hold a side button in auto racing for Gas!

For a game like pinball, I used keypad for flippers not the action buttons?  This would be interesting with the new controller.  I didn't play this game when I was limited to an Intellivision II.

Oh, no! I just realized that most modern board games require to read instructions, and some have 200 pages manuals!

That's a blatant violation of the Amico Commandment nº 2. Any workaround for that, Tommy?

If an instruction manual is really that long... then it probably isn' the style of board games we're looking for and that are very family friendly and that kids could play as well.  :)

As I've mentioned in the past, the Commandments are only a guideline and there are always going to be exceptions to the rule.

Careful there with the basement burrito eating VCS troll talk! They are expecting it to be on shelves. Speaking of here is something their die hards said about Amico.

I wish you could expand more on the board games. If it was Wizkids that would open up a lot of possibilities.

Well... he did say he was going to buy an Amico... so can't fault him there.  :)

He is clearly a "modder" so I can understand why he would enjoy the AtariVCS.

One thing he got wrong is when he says... "Does the Amico store allow indie developers to bring games to it and give revenue sharing for sales?"

The answer is YES.

A more important question is...

"Is AtariVCS paying developers to make games?

Answer = NO.

:)

This would be a good example of not following the commandments. Also some games seem daunting but if you play them on PC they are quickly explained. I habe both Ticket to Ride and Carcassonne on PC/Phone and board games. The in game explanations are pretty quick.

If you want to compete with board games you are not going to want to water down your offerings in my opinion.

Agreed.  And yeah... you nailed it.  On screen instructions and/or demo/training modes can easily explain on screen what takes a manual in writing a longer time to do and understand.

Yep!  Horseshoes is on the "to do" list.  We haven't started it yet.

Cornhole is actually the fastest growing "sport" in the world right now!  The ESPN championships actually beat Wimbelton and Sunday Night Football in the ratings this year!!

Not in New Zealand. We only recognise one sport - rugby. Haha.

Nice to see horseshoes on the TODO :)  Wow that is amazing on the Cornhole ratings! I love that it's popularity has taken off like that - one of those age 6 to 60 games that everyone can enjoy. I did noticed that several of the patio style bars around Dallas have a Cornhole setup but I never knew why. Obviously they are keeping a better handle on what is hot than I am.

The NES powerpad homebrew version is called Tailgate Party.

Cornhole, Dadhole, Bags and now Tailgate Party - how can one game have so many names and every single one of them sound dirty? 😂

Yeah, I’d probably have called it Bag a Mole or Feed the Mole, etc.

Fill the hole...  Nope, still sounds bad!  LOL

Tommy, can you bring back JARTS?  No, not for the Amico.  For people my age that knew enough to not stand in front of a sharp flying object!

Getting these back into circulation will eliminate a future intelligence problem that is forthcoming!  :)

Dunno where you're from but bagging a mole is definitely something rude in my parts. 😂😂😂. You generally get out of there before you have to feed them though. 🤣🤣🤣

DISCLAIMER: This is just a joke.

If I buy a modern board game and it has a 200 page manual, it better be because it is in at least ten different languages, preferably 20.

Probably has different names because people don't want to think that maybe it is called that because you throw bags of corn into a hole, as opposed to something sexual?
