Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Well and when those were in their most popular there was no phone gaming. Unless it was a basic snake game or something similar. I think you could argue the GB was mobile gaming. It just as time has gone on it has evolved into something different. All mobile means is it can move freely. Which the GBs, DSs, and Switch can all do. They aren't mobile in terms of phones.

I've actually never heard the term "mobile" associated with handheld or portable gaming systems such as DS, Gameboy, Vita, PSP, etc.  Maybe it was... I just never heard it before.

I was curious so I googled the words Game Boy and mobile.  The only thing that came back was an adapter that allowed a Game Boy to connect to a (you guessed it)...  mobile phone.

:)

It was actually an interesting collaboration between Konami and Nintedo.  Never knew this existed.

Will we have Robot Tank on Amico ?

First person shooters aren't allowed.  I'd rather see a Battlezone title for this type of game,  with a wireframe mode.

I never thought about it that way either. I was always portable. But a cell/mobile phone is a portable phone too.

Technically speaking though mobile is still correct for GB.

Robot Tank is an Activision IP right?

How would Battlezone be any different than Robot Tank by that logic?

I think when he mentions FPS he is talking more along the lines of Call of Duty, Battlefield, Fortnite, and Apex. But @Tommy Tallarico would have to give a more official answer.

You bring up a good talking point... What is an FPS?  It dates back to Wolfenstein 3D as the first "official", but what about Treasure of Tarmin, and all the other Dungeon Crawler/D&D games that SSI made.  Not to forget the best of all, Dungeon Master.  We're these not FPS format?

But I hope there is some wiggle room in the Amico's definition of FPS.  I agree, no COD type games, but it would be fun to have new versions of Battle Zone, Red Baron, Star Wars.. and some classic D&D games like Bard's Tale.

Treasure of Tarmin and Bard's Tale aren't first person shooters but I wouldn't expect to see role playing games on Amico either.  You might be thinking of esrb ratings with respect to some first person shooters.  But that's not the only reason why first person shooters aren't being made for the Amico.  It's already been discussed here.

So what about games like bowling or shuffleboard? Those are going to be 2.5D instead of the Wii bowling type setup?

Like I said, it all depends on the definition of FPS.  Then would Skyrim be considered an FPS?  The last thing I'd want to see and I'm glad we won't is another shooting game.  There are plenty on many other systems to play.

I am taking about games that use the fake "3D" aspect, and family friendly.  Plenty of them out there. That are fun and in the first person perspective not using a gun.  But, most of these game involve some form of flying or driving.

Correct.

I'm talking more about open world 3D that needs dual analog controls and shoulder buttons.  Not forced scrolling such as Star Wars Arcade or the original Star Strike.

Even Battlezone (in my opinion) although somewhat "open world" would be acceptable... as long as it kept it's vector style roots.  :)

Super simple RPG's would be fine.

What about the bowling game? It utilizing the 3d or 2.5d?

Massive open world 3D is what we are against.  It comes down more to the controls than anything else.

2.5D is 3D with a fixed camera.  So you could say that Bowling on the Wii (and Amico) is 2.5D or 3D.

It's not "open world" 3D though.  The bowling ball is on a fixed path that it cannot deviate from (i.e. the 3D bowling lane).

Guess i should be more specific as it more first person versus side scrolling. :P

With any first person perspective game you have to figure out how you're going to do local multiplayer without splitting the screen.  It's certainly possible.  Controls don't have to be complicated, Doom had simple pickup and play controls.

Hey Tommy, I got a subject that isn't addressed my most corporate content providers that I recently found to be a serious dilemma.

How to transfer user licenses to another user, due to relationship breakups. My Ex & I bought a bunch of Xbox games for use on my Xbox over the last 5 years. MS has no game use license transfer program in place, so he can't get those games he bought, even if I gave him the console, since they're all under my Microsoft account. If this were the old days, then I'd just pack up his cartridges and send them to him. Can't do that now.

It used to be that you glared at each other for an hour separating the record or movie collection and getting the Hell out of there. They even wrote songs about it.

Nowadays it's on digital files that usage rights can't be gifted or transferred. One party ends up keeps it all, while the other gets screwed with nothing. Forcing one of them to re-purchase the movies, music, games etc. they bought together.

I'm sure it's about agreements between 3rd party publishers & MS, but there should be a way without a company double dipping themselves on past purchases because relationships end. Warner Bros doesn't need to sell that piece of crap Rampage movie a second time.

Since Intellivision is the sole publisher of Amico games, can Intellivision look into a way to do game license transfers?

Any chance we get some cool 2.5D games like Castlevania? Platformer/rpg elements that are simple yet challenging.

I love, love, love Metroidvania games! Ori and the Blind Forest is my favorite Xbox One game and it's 2.5 D. Just stunningly beautiful and brutally hard. I'd love a system that gave them the premium showcase instead of relegating it to stocking stuffer status.

I doubt we would see metroidvania type games. Maybe something more straighforward like the older castlevania games. Decent platformer beats a go here amd backtrack game anyday.

With how Tommy talks about this though I wouldn't get too high of hopes past Arcade type experiences. That's why at this point I'm more interested in seeing what else they have up their sleeve. EWJ and 'The Ecco looking game'.
