Yeah... David Warhol was who I was referring to in my other post.  He is a good friend.  I could ask him what he knows.  But again... Steve Roney probably already knows the answer.

The software does have the world book name on it.  I don't think legally it has to be removed but it could cause complications.

I wonder who owns the name Tutorvision?  Kinda cool.  Might be a good name for our educational series of stuff we're doing.

Yeah, it's the curiosity of these missing games and what they were that's killing some of us retro console fanatics.

This is the game list. Map Mazes was kinda fun, but, for some reason, the other two that have been released (Shapes in Space, Geographics) were kinda like early 2600 Fun with Numbers and Math/Word Fun rather than like ECS titles or even 2600 Word Zapper, as I had expected. It would be cool to try them out, but not sure how much they would help you commercially.

For younger children:

  • Nounsense (parts of speech)
  • Busy Bodies (jobs & workplaces)
  • Map Mazes (reading maps)
  • Tale Teller (building paragraphs)
  • Zoo Review (capitalization and punctuation)
  • Jungle Math (basic math)
  • Shapes in Space (fractions)

For older children:

  • Tops in Terms (word definitions)
  • Write it Right (spelling)
  • Wordsmith (constructing sentences)
  • Story Stopper (advanced punctuation)
  • Wordcalc (math word problems)
  • Time Trip (history)
  • Geo Graphics (geography)

I'm guessing something similar to Amiibo type stuff. Don't need to plug in the game but can scan it somehow.

Sounds cool, but I worry that this may prevent developers from putting their entire game on one piece of media. Don't recall NFC or RFID having a very fast transfer rate! And if you still had to download the game from online, that sort of defeats the purpose of a physical version.

Someone in the taco thread is saying Atari has a big partner like Google, Amazon, or something huge like that. Going to be big in esports blockchain etc. Its making my brain hurt about how far they are reaching. So here I am...

@Tommy Tallarico are there any other partnerships with Amico that we may hear about in the near future?

Lol don't know if you are serious, but don't worry it's the ''unconsole". Don't ask me what that means.

I can tell you that they are a LOT bigger than anything Atari is planning.

Speaking of which... did anyone see the e-mail they just put out where they spoke about couch co-op, family gaming and that they have employees who have been with the company 20+ years.

I guess they like our talking points so much (and see that they are resonating so well) that they decided to adopt them also.  :)  They say the name Atari resonates with those things.  True.  But I think the trouble is... NONE of those things really apply to their new AtariVCS.  So I think it's safe to say they're missing the mark as to what they should be as opposed to what they are.

I guess I should be flattered though.

:D

They open with the line... "
enthusiasm and energy around the Atari VCS heading into 2020 is incredible."  Yes... it sure is.  But I don't think it's in the way they would like.  They have literally screwed up every aspect of their launch and hardware so far.  Will be interesting to see the final product.  Let the OG Console Wars continue.  Different outcome this time around.  That I can promise you.   :D

Remember one of the worst written articles about Amico on GameRevolution in 2018 entitled:
"Why the Intellivision Amico Will Be a Colossal Failure"

https://www.gamerevolution.com/features/449141-why-the-intellivision-amico-will-be-a-colossal-failure

Aside from not understanding anything about the concept at all... the author (immature elitist Matt Leonard) also misquoted info, got a ton of facts wrong and couldn't stop himself from talking about masturbation a number of times.  Every comment left by readers was negative against the author.  Rare for a gaming website.  :)

Well... thankfully another author (Alex Santa Maria) just posted an article about Amico on that same website that did get the facts correct and understood who our audience is.  I like the title of this one much better:
"How Intellivision’s Amico could be a next-gen dark horse in 2020"

https://www.gamerevolution.com/features/622959-intellivision-amico-next-gen-dark-horse

Although I do find it interesting that the first comment left says...

"Watching bad ideas fail is always fun.  Nintendo has already proven that they DOMINATE the mobile gaming market."

This is exactly the reason I'm happy we don't need that hardcore elitist "demographic" in order to succeed.  Certain online hardcore gamers seem to relish in wanting something to fail.  They find negativity and wanting others to fail to be "fun".  How can you call yourself a real "gamer" if you get off on other systems failing?  You would think that a real gamer would want something new and unique to succeed.  Then again... this poster thinks that Nintendo "DOMINATES" the mobile gaming market.  When in reality... nothing could be farther from the truth.  Nintendo is a very weak player in mobile and it took them years to even put a little content on mobile.  I guess the poster isn't aware that Pokemon and the Pokemon Go game has very little to do with Nintendo (they own about 15% of the Pokemon Company and don't control Pokemon).  But even if they did... Pokemon Go and the typical mobile gaming market are 2 completely different things.  I just thought it was funny that folks think they know so much... when in reality it's the opposite.  My response should be...  "Watching bad posters fail is always fun."   :)

Anyway... just wanted to post the NEW article and glad to see that our message is getting through and starting to resonate even with the hardcore websites.

:)

My guess it is them thinking gaming on the go. Like Gameboy and such. Nintendo has always done their handhelds well. My guess that is what they meant by mobile.

But in terms of phone mobile? No hardly anything.

In the video game industry, mobile gaming has always meant games on mobile devices (since mobile/smart phones/tablets have existed).

Handhelds (DS, Gameboy) are typically referred to as "portable" gaming.

No one calls the Switch a "mobile device".

But I do understand your point that the poster may just be confused and uneducated in regards to the gaming industry.  It's pretty clear in fact.  :D

I must say Atari SA had done an excellent job of hiding any new major deals from investors - no insider trading going on here...

Outside north america "mobile" means cell phone.  It's all handheld gaming and phone/tablet apps could be considered to compete with nintendo handheld/portable games.  Just as the industry might not consider PC gaming to compete with console gaming even if it does.  And now the switch is a handheld that competes with consoles.

No unfortunately their very next line was: "What Nintendo doesn't hold, the smartphone industry does."

Your right, smart phone gaming isn't loved, some of the games are popular but it is despite the crap you deal with. The Gameboy & DS - now those devices are often loved by their owners.

Well and when those were in their most popular there was no phone gaming. Unless it was a basic snake game or something similar. I think you could argue the GB was mobile gaming. It just as time has gone on it has evolved into something different. All mobile means is it can move freely. Which the GBs, DSs, and Switch can all do. They aren't mobile in terms of phones.

I think I can say, with 90% certainty, that this poster is not an educated business professional, because Jr High School doesn't have business admin classes. Nor is he even a customer of Nintendo's... his parent's are.
