Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

If the Amico investor break even is 250,000 units sold, then if they sell 1,000,000 you would get close to 4x return, sell 3 m units like OG Intellivision 12x return, sell 10 m units, 40x return (roughly on all of that).

280,000 units to start earning big... for those keeping count.   :D

Investors like their odds with Intellivision and what we've created.  :)

Also, as I'm new to Atari Age, and not really understanding what makes it's long term members tick, but I have sensed a real disdain for Japanese games by a few since I arrived here. I don't know why that is, but I am thankful to Intellivision for singing a deal to get Irem games, including the only Amico game ready to play now (at least 15 seconds of it).

We currently have 5 big Japanese publishers (and growing!) and over 25 "ready to play" games at this point.   :)

Amico will have fighting games; boxing has already been announced.  I hope no amico games will have cutesy graphics; that's just personal preference.

There will be Amico games that some would consider cutesy graphics.  But stylized.  I think there is a distinction (at least in my mind).  It's the CHEESY graphics and voice-overs/audio design that I personal can't stand.  Most Nintendo sports games are like this.  I wanna barf each time I see them.  Mario Golf for example is almost personally unplayable to me.

In another thread (Which Amico Games would you like to see) he said they won't, barring any ultra-boring, no personality robots. Boxing notwithstanding.

Not at the beginning... that's for sure.  Even Boxing isn't something we are currently working on (but it's on "the list").

Establishing ourselves as a family entertainment system is always first and foremost.  At this point we haven't been pitched anything in the fighting genre that we feel matches our mission.  There have been lots of pixel art fighting games that people have pitched us... but nothing we liked or stood out.  Clayfighter is a concept that was fun and difference (and without violence I believe?  I don't remember exactly).  Something like Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots is another license I can think of that could be fun to play if done right.

By the way, is there a online list with the accurate and failed predictions from Patcher? That would be interesting. 🧐

I know there is one.  He said Intellivision was going to be huge!!!

everyone here is different and even in terms of individual forums you can see different atmospheres.

Yeah... everyone is different.  It's like music.  There is never a genre or song that every person is going to like.  Game genres even more so.  The best we can do is create things we feel are super fun.  Our core team has helped to create the greatest games of all time... so a better chance of success then the new Atari and especially the Ouya ever had.  This is the main reason (aside from crowdfunding) that comparing us to others is so off (yet some still do).

The GAMES are going to be the most important thing.  They will either be fun to play... or not.  Nothing else matters.  We know and understand that more than those other failed companies.

I don't know about a list but somewhere I saw he was 56% accurate. Same as flipping a coin. If I find it again I will post it.

For an analyst that equates to a 6% ROI (Return on Investment).  Every investor I know would take those odds any day of the week.   :)

So would any of us in Las Vegas.   :D

You can't always have games for non-gamers.

As long as Amico has games for non-gamers, it's fine to have few games for gamers and hardcore gamers.

You can't please everybody all the time.

THIS!

Clayfighter has always been my mental image of an Amico combat game - wacky attacks, non serious cartoon violence, slightly inappropriate in places. Rock ‘en Sock ‘em is also great idea especially if you could upgrade your robots with add ons to keep it fresh & challenging.

I second that. I don't have many original games for the Intv but this is one of them and I love it.

I wanted to lighten the mood a bit by sharing something that folks in here might think is cool (Tis the season to be jolly M*ther F*ckers!).   :D

I'll be sharing this today on social media, but wanted to post it here first...

When designing the new logo for Skiing... me and our Art Director Mike Dietz (Earthworm Jim, Disney's Aladdin, Cool Spot, The Neverhood, etc.) were standing around his computer looking at different drawings he and the artist from the developer had come up with based on some of our notes and ideas.

Mike's first game system was an Intellivision and he loves it dearly.  He brought in his original Intellivision from childhood and it's been sitting on his desk for over a year.  Many great childhood memories and one of the inspirations for him loving games and being in the industry.

It was at that point that I looked down and saw that one of the controllers had an overlay in it...

It was this...

...and the new Intellivision Skiing logo was born!

Subtle, but so important to me that we keep as much DNA as possible.

Thought you would all enjoy that.

Speaking of that, I am not sure if the Intellivision Entertainment Christmas party got posted here. Nearly a crime to miss Tommy's Spiderman Ugly Christmas Sweater, and congrats to John Alvarado for winning employee of the year! Also proof that Tommy carries a pocket full of vegan dog treats with him at all times (see the Santa photo).

The Amico looks better every day... Good job, Tommy! These last news about the big Japanese developers are great.

I have a couple of speculative ideas:

1) It looks like the system will definitely have hardcore games, but Intellivision Entertainment is afraid that complex games will scare casual gamers. We harcore gamers can tell them apart and will probably buy some of the casual ones for multiplayer fun, but there could be the case of casual/non gamers accidentally buying hardcore games and getting frustrated. This is why Tommy has already explained that there will be different difficulty levels, but I'm still curious about how all this will be implemented. I wonder if the Amico could have some way of easily identify casual/non gamers by their user data and point them to the right games in the store. Another option would be making sure that every single game has an extremely easy and casual mode that starts by default, adding a "only for advanced players" option in the main menu that opens what we normally understand as a 1 player game for modern systems.

2) The console and its games are being presented in a very attractive way by Amico and its team. In combination to the 10$ price tag, this could create an interesting "brand appreciation" by Amico buyers and potentially increase software sales. Once the trust has been stablished, hardcore games could start buying casual games (card/board games), and maybe casual gamers could become interested in more complex experiences if the difficulty level is increased very slowly. Even if this doesn't happen and each type of gamer buys only the products aimed for them, a great catalog of cheap games for a console where you have already enjoyed several great couch coop titles, some of them for free, can be the perfect catalyst to boost software sales on the system.

Does dying on the mountain and starting over count? 😈🤪 I will excel at that type of backtracking.

I know Cloudy has been mentioned a lot. What about the other one? That confirmed in the works?

No difficulty levels; Amico has the karma engine.  I prefer difficulty levels but I figure they know what they are doing.

You have to extend the poles all the way through.  I'd keep it at the original angle; it looks a little odd rotated.

Really cool logo ! :)  What a team you have. I never tought about the ii ! Really cool ! :)

Tommy, what can you tell us about Tron ? I have just recently discovered the 2010 movie.

Sound and music was really great and I can imagine it with your little touch on Amico ! :)

I just saw your comment from the video of papa pete saying Amico will have Tron, but not the one from 1982.

Could be really great with a story, and all the games from the movie.

Also, the motobiker game could look a little like snafu, what will you do to differentiate them ?  :)

This reminds me: if there's a long period of time since we submit a developer inquiry, does that necessarily mean our proposal(s) are rejected? Or would there be a specific notice if that were the case?

I wonder where Zombie Panic in Wonderland lies in the Amico mission/commandments? Cartoon violence and no blood, just pink hearts! Butt-load of machine gun firing, though.

Hopefully based on graphics from TRON: Legacy?  That was a great movie
