Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Yes I know, but I did not go into details with him. It was an introduction. :)

I don't think Triple Action Biplanes are available with Intellivision Lives ? Is it ?

I forgot to say that the first two games we played was Astrosmash and Space Armada (One player). A few minutes of Night Stalker, and telling him that I hope the ennemy will not appear always at the same place with Amico ! lol

I would have really like to show him Burger Time, Lock N Chase and Moon Patrol, but they are nowhere to be found, I don't know why.

Biplanes should be on your intellivisionlives cd but not as triple action.  Intellivision Productions would have liked to make a follow-up CD with all the arcade licenses as well as the tron license but they didn't sell enough Intellivision Lives CDs to pay for them.  It's not hard to find those games on the internet, and they'll eventually be on Amico.  Intellivision didn't get a Moon Patrol until around 2008 and that one can be had for free. http://spatula-city.org/~im14u2c/intv/spteaser/

It looks like Sony will not attending E3 2020 !

Is this good news for Amico to get more coverage at E3 this year ?

My first thought will be yes. What do you think ?

I hear a prince and princess are leaving Windsor palace partially because of internet negativity. I don’t know if they should take the negativity seriously. Campaign group hope not hate and CNN say something like 70% of they negativity on Twitter came  from about 20 user accounts from a study last March. I know there is more to it, but the part about 70% of the negativity coming from a few people is relevant

If you mean you can't find them on the CD... no, they didn't come with Lives!   I just checked as well.

Just an aside but I got a nasty response from from someone on the AtariVCS subreddit who recognized me from here (same user name, not that hard). They were responding to a thread about Atari licensing games to people like Intellivision instead of holding them for the VCS. Just kind of validates my pet theory that these haters are supporting their beloved brand (in this case Atari), they are supporting a 'injured' minor media personality or they are so tied up in being a 'real gamer' that anything else is far beneath them & is worthy of scorn. Just kind of fascinated on the psychology going on here when a big part of a person's psyche is tied up in a person, brand or hobby and it goes beyond liking/loving that thing (kind of natural, I can see a lot of reasons to love the Atari legacy) and turns into hating anything not that.

If I were her/him, I'd be strongly advocating Atari hold its licenses close to home as well.  Their mini PC/box/system doesn't have much from the lay viewer that says, "I've gotta have this!".  Sleekly shaped.  But still lacking any original software.  If they were to do a completely new from-the-ground-up Centipede, Asteroids, Crystal Castles, Adventure, BattleZone, Missile Command, Breakout, Tank, Star Raiders, Warlords, Lunar Lander, Canyon Bomber, Fire Truck, Avalanche, Night Driver... even not incorporating new play mechanics and controller screen information like Amico is, we'd all (almost all) be excited to buy a new Intellivision Amico AND a new Atari VCS.  It's such obvious allure for the system.

But Atari has limped to this point with the system, they're making much-needed revenue in licensing these properties to an able care-taker, who may actually kickback interest in some of these properties, helping Atari S.A. keep afloat even if the VCS flounders.

Serguei2, I am afraid you won't receive what you ask for... because it doesn't exist.

You are just another victim of RetroAdvisoryBoard's imagination.

Some of my best friends are imaginary!  😂    Most.. but, it's probably pill time so they have to go now.

Just hoping to illustrate how plain Jane games (not to knock Battleship, but, we know it so well) can be turned on its head, or revitalized with new concepts, the difference a novel input device can make.  Think I missed my mark.  His battleship lives to fight another day I guess.

You try your best to convince anybody Amico will be the best console ever. I can understand that.

I'm a kind of player who loves games since NES when you can save games for later or entering passwords.

All Amico games I know so far, Moon Patrol, Breakout, Burgetime. …

Even if they have remade, better backgrounds, more options, more levels, multiplayers, ...

They are the same for me. I already played all of them.

Maybe Super Mario 64-like games might me think to buy Amico, with multiplayers of course.

These games would break 7e commandment and I know I won't find these kind of games on your machine.

Like you said, Amico is not for everyone.

Hi,

Thanks for your response.  I am still a little confused as games like Moon Patrol and Breakout have many different ways to play that not only never existed in the original games... but never even existed EVER in video gaming!

To say they are the same just isn't factually accurate.  But I understand that you may not want to play any games from the 80's.  That's fine.  But just so you are aware, Retro Re-imagined (as I call them) are only about 20% of our entire offering.  There will be many brand new IP's and experiences that you've never seen and game designs and inputs that have never been made or accomplished until now.

I agree that if you are hesitant about the machine... you should definitely play it first before committing to buy.

If you love playing Super Mario 64 type games you certainly have a ton of options out there already.  Amico won't be one of them, but we will be offering a lot more.

Thanks again for your time.

Read your whole post but I am just quoting the end here. Thanks for the long and detailed reply. I won't go back to those sites, it was difficult to sift through the same and almost repeat responses as it was.

I agree completely that these kinds of websites aren't the core audience for Amico. On the repeated comments, I thought it was very interesting to learn what these websites were saying and how frequently they crossed over one another like they all think the same no matter where they post. A week and a half ago I knew nothing about the Amico and if I was not the kind of person to look further into something I would probably be thinking what a lot of these people were thinking (not as brutally though) so it wasn't all completely worthless information. It does help show clear distinctions in mindsets and that these groups are probably a lost cause. Or potential lost marketing dollars $$$ anyways.

You have targeted an existing market of non-hardcore gamers, but because people see "video games" they immediately assume it's an Xbox/PS/Nintendo thing, when it's not at all. Gamers weren't this type of hardcore isolationist gamer when Intellivision, Colecovision and Atari 2600 came out and you are focused on that original second gen experience on a modern system with modernized controls and modern features.

Very interested to see where this leads and what new marketing does when it comes up in the summer.

Thank you for keeping an open mind!

Welcome to the ride!

as they said the new earthworm jim will be different than previous editions.  So there should be lots of new game ideas.

Did someone say Earthworm Jim?  I wonder what the new one will look like?  Wouldn't it be something if I posted a new run animation from the new game?

Hope everyone here follows us on social media!   Keep your eyes open today!   :D

I am impressed you actually went out and did the research on this - that is like 1 out of 100 people (probably way less). The problem with the 4chan crowd (besides the racism, hate speech and child porn) is that they are incapable of projecting beyond their own likes & needs. It is very much "I don't like it so it is stuuupid and nobody should want it!". No empathy, no emotional projection. The biggest reasons I am interested in the Amico (and hope it succeeds) is that whole bringing families together thing. I am not a child psychologist but the parent in me says that learning winning & losing with others in a family bonding situation if far healthier than, say, anonymous online gaming. Might teach kids there is a person (maybe even one they care about) on the other side of that joystick. Maybe if we had more of that we would have less 4chan members. OK philosophical mode OFF.

LOVE this post!

We seriously believe that we could potentially help change the world.

Giving description is not enough. Any screenshots or even videos to show of these games?

We've showed 20 games so far... and even a quick playable demo.  Ask yourself how many PS5 or XBOX X games you've seen clips of?  2 or 3?  They are in about the same time window as we are.

My point being is that we have been way ahead of the curve compared to others in regards to showing things.  And we will continue to do so.

Of course we need to do this to build as much excitement as we can because we don't have the force or budgets to compare to the others.  We're looking forward to changing that by 2021!  :)

Past weekend was the time ! Time for my 7 years old child ( and a half !), to look at Intellivision Lives.

I have been talking to him since 4 months, about our mission with Amico to re-educate society on video games. To make players rediscover the pleasure of playing together, in the same room. I told him the company that will help to create this revolution was called Intellivision, and they had already produced a console when I was about his age. I had already explained to him that at that time, the graphics were not like today. (He's used to that kind of thing from me, I showed him the James Bond series in order of release on the Big Screen, I have an old computer screen in my basement etc, so he knows that everything changes over time ! lol )

I bought him a t-shirt, and later a hoonie and a mug (He chose the family logo. By the way, the smaller person is it a dog ? ) He is a believer too, and he is really excited.

So like I said, the day has come. I showed him skiing, Shark Shark and really likes them. We tried Auto Racing, Baseball, Hockey and Basketball. (Baseball almost unplayable with a PS2 controller. lol )

And we had great fun, laughting, etc.

But the game he like the most was Snafu (he call it Tron, because we saw the 2010 movie a month ago, and he really likes motorcycles and this particular part in the movie)
For the third day in a row he still play it. I told him Amico will have a stage almost like in Tron ! (I am really looking for all the stages you will create :) )

And we played Horse Racing. And it was really fun trying to guess who the winner will be, and to yell at each of our horses to go faster when it was tight !  REALLY COOL !

(And my son, Antoine, want me to ask Tommy, what will be the look of our horses with Amico ? Will it be blue, Pink etc, or more natural colors ? lol  He is so cute ! )

Whatever the colors, this game will be magnificient for us. It was one of the most played by me 38 years ago !

We can't wait to have Amico in our possession, and share it with each of our friends. :) THANK YOU for thinking of this wonderful project !

What an amazing story!  Thank you so much for sharing.  It's moments and stories like this that make all the hard work and sacrifice worth it.

I won't you let you and your son down.

I love that you mentioned his favorite game was SNAFU.  It's one of the reasons I am also including THE NEW VERSION AS ONE OF THE 5 PACK-IN GAMES!!  WHAT?!?!?!?

BOOM!  Consider that an AtariAge TT Q&A thread exclusive.  :)

I was very careful and did a TON of research and focus testing on what the 5 games should be.  Needed them to all be different yet still appeal to everyone.  Some use the motion controls, some the touch screen, others just the simple d-pad.  They all have different styles and are all super fun to play with others... even up to 8 people.

4 of them are games that everyone here knows.  1 of them is completely brand new and never done before... but a fun activity that people all know about and enjoy.

Your right on advocating for Atari to hold the licenses, I can see that too. I didn't explain things very well - their reply was to that type of comment and they volunteered that those games would suck on the Amico anyway because of the terrible controller with no joystick. My response was that there weren't just code ports but the games were being redesign to work specifically with the controller. There reply to that was I was an AtariAge cheerleader and the Amico controller was basically a sideways iPod for losers (paraphrasing here but I think that is the essence of the comments). There didn't seem to be much flexibility in their lack of love for the Amico - I think if it was made of solid gold and sold for a buck they would still hate it - just because.

That hoodie looks PERFECT for future ceremonies of our cult.

Now seriously, LePionnier, I think playing the Intellivision Lives! compilation for PS2 with your 7yo son was a great idea. My parents only gave me some video games soon after my 9th birthday (and only played with me a couple of times 😢). And since Intellivision games may not be so good to play solo, you can give your son other retro masterpieces such as Bruce Lee, The Secret of Monkey Island or Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (the graphic adventure, not the shitty platformer where the light from the torches dissappears until you die) via C64 emulation/ScummVM. Those are the type of games where you can have fun even if when you're losing.

About the Amico on the E3: With Sony absent, Nintendo not releasing a new console, Google failing hard and Microsoft releasing a console that offers more of the same with a name more appropriate for a Mercedes Benz, I have a feeling this could be a great opportunity for consoles such as the Amico or the Playdate.

I’m hopeful just because I think it would be more fun that what we see Horse wise on Horse Racing will look like the horses in the Emerald City from wizard of Oz real horses but solid bright colors

Even looking screenshots or watching videos don't give how to feel when you play on it.

Games usually look a lot easier in videos than playing them, unless it’s one where the reviewer is bad or new at playing and can’t clear the first level. Then you just feel embarrassed for the guy.

Actually I don't care about PS5 or even Xbox X. Microsoft and Sony are the same and I don't feel I need their consoles either. Intellivision Amico is a newcomer and it catches my attention.

The most console I spend most of time is my …

Laptop.

I know non-players who refuse playing video games and they bought a computer, they love playing cards, mostly solitaire. Will Amico have card games too?
