Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Recommended Posts

Ciao Tommy, not sure if this has been asked before. Is there any plans for the Amico to be assembled or manufactured in Canada? This way for value wise for us Canadians that 35% exchange hit wont have as much of an impact on cost differences from the US.

I'm of the opposite of both.  I always take a wait and see before I give a final verse of my opinion.  Just like much of what I do.  Hold final thoughts and opinions until you are sure... Good or bad.

I'm the 'anti'?? that. I know I want it to succeed but also see the potential problems, or reasons I think it will be cool.

I had done a bunch of complaining how there isn't a simpler system anymore that has great fun on it that isn't a handheld. I like going back to arcade like experiences, but I would really LOVE to see more of the SNES or Genesis era come back. You had a little bit of everything in that era and the graphics still hold up and make the first gen 3D consoles look like trash. Then this was announced.

It might not quite have the SNES games I loved (big old RPG guy), but I think it can hit some of them. Time will tell I guess.

It could work.  Dont think of it as say letsjust dumb down this version.  Insead take an 80s saturday morning cartoon approach  could be different yet awesome in other ways while still staying true to itself and humor.

And speaking of saturday morning cartoons  I hope you guys can get a ghostbusters game on the console.   Even cooler  would be a game based on  the real ghostbusters animated series.

It could be part shooter, but driving part platformer puzzle action adventure.  Easily a multi genre  game.

The amico controller can easily be the ghostbusters  pke meter.

OMG imagine if there was a version of aliens and the controller acted like a motion sensor!

Music to my ears! 16 bit is my favorite era as well. I still have both my original SNES and Genesis with about 80 games between them.

I wish I had a TurboGrafX when it was out, but I'll probably buy the mini when it's released.👍

Depending on what is on it I may do the same. I recently just got my wife started playing Chrono Trigger. She has never played an RPG before and figured I start her on the best. Honestly, it really is more accessible and requires less grinding than most. 👍👍

Yep people are screaming we are Amico fanboys but folks here know launching a new console is tough. What they interpreting as fanboy-ism is just excitement for the ideas behind this product (actually a pretty good sign if you think about it). Nobody really knows if that casual market is reachable via a console (some would argue if it still exists, although those Dance Dance Revolution sales numbers to Wii holdouts is just crazy - talk about a cult following). On the good news front Tommy is really driven, has a really strong team, good financing and a solid plan of execution. Does that mean he is going to 100% succeed? Absolutely not! However failing isn't the way the smart money would bet on this one. Too much upside if this hits either of his major demographics (casuals or young families) and his failure level on the number of units sold is pretty low considering that national launch - he might even be able to swing getting by with mostly a retro market. Also Christmas 2021 might really be the year for the Amico because it really is a 'word of mouth' sort of product and after year 1 Tommy is going to know where to put his marketing dollars much more effectively. But that is realism - which is boring - so officially back to "Amico Rulz, Haters Drool!" ;)

I agree with everyone in your post.  None of us know what could happen, but in my mind I must always shoot for the stars.

I really appreciate the support in this thread and I know it spreads to social media, YouTube, etc.  I can't be everywhere at once and it really means a lot and is important to the success of the console at this stage that people are out there fighting the good fight and helping to correct misinformation or give more information to folks who are unaware.

I thank you all from the bottom of my heart!

Except for you negative dipshits.  You're still douches.

The Atari motto is, "Hardware is hard." 😜

It is funny how it is still worth their time to produce new Dance games for the Wii. I think it will be interesting to see the marketing unfolds here in a few months.

Yeah!  It's going to be EVERYTHING this summer.  Make or break!

We just did another huge focus test with parents & kids today.  60+ people.  EVERY person (including the 5 - 12 year olds in a separate room away from their parents) LOVED the system and would ask for it for Christmas this year.  The mom's & dad's (again... in separate rooms) absolutely flipped out because of the fact that there is no violence and they'll be able to play it with their kids.

Y'know... it was interesting... but one of the biggest draws for the younger kids was the "retro" aspect of the machine!  We were surprised by that... but they really feel this is a great way to connect with the history of gaming and play games WITH their parents and that their parents know.  A few of the parents (when they heard their kids say that) had tears in their eyes!  People are really underestimating the power of that.  It was also interesting to see that the kids themselves were excited that there was no violent content!  We were taken aback by that as it's so easy to assume that kids want to kill each other in Roblox & Fortnite... but they are young kids and they've heard that violence is bad from their parents so many times that I think they like the idea of no violence as well.

Anyway... long story short... EVERY person in the rooms raised their hands when we asked them if they would purchase one (for the price of $229) and YES to if they would recommend it to other friends, parents, family etc.  We still don't know the price of the machine... when we do these focus groups we always use different prices to see where it tops out.  We also do these across America as folks in California are going to have a different view of "value" than someone in middle America.

Pretty cool though!  We were super excited once again with the results!

Anyways hopfully this stars us back to topic.   Hey tommy so any time frame on when we will get news on what to do with our golden tickets??

Yeah... we wanted to do something right before Christmas but the fulfillment company screwed things up for us a little bit.  As some of you may know... we sent all of the RFID Golden Tickets to the fulfillment house but they forgot to tell us that depending on where the order came from... they ship from different locations!  So folks outside the U.S. didn't get one (unless you were in western Canada) and most of the folks on the East Coast didn't get one.  So we hired a few interns and we hand mailed out everyone who didn't get one.  It was a bit of a logistical nightmare.

We wanted to wait a little after Christmas and the orders dying down to ensure that everyone who ordered has received their ticket (to keep it 100% fair).

We have a programmer in house now who is working on the back-end to have our first drawing.  We're also building up the Amico Club app (hired a programmer last week just to deal with our app) so I'm hoping to have news and info about it by the beginning of February.

Hey Tommy, here's a totally unironic question: Do you feel honored that Roblox has asked you to become part of their creative community? What do you think about this exciting oportunity? My opinion: I believe it can be a great way to launch your career as a emerging freelance artist. 🧐

Yeah... that was hilarious.  Roblox flat out lied and gave a bunch of misinformation in that post.  They said I don't own the copyright... they are WRONG (and they know it), they said I didn't provide them with proof... they are WRONG (and they know it), they say they took the sound from a CD-Rom that they paid for... they are WRONG (and they know it).  And the funny thing about that one is that they were the ones who couldn't provide US with proof!

They are just trying to make me look bad in front of their community... all the while our damages are just piling higher and higher.  They really are that dumb.  We have the best copyright attorney's in the U.S. working on this and we will be hitting them with a lawsuit of epic proportions over the next month if they don't smarten up.  We're trying to be cool and offer them a way out so they look good.  Instead they just keep denying the obvious and trying to turn their community against me (which has been failing because I have truth and facts on my side).  If anyone here is wondering what we're talking about.  Just check out my Twitter feed the past week... that will get you all caught up.

:)

I've just had to clean up another batch of posts which were in danger of dragging this thread back into areas that have already been discussed ad nauseum.  If you're tempted to chime in yet again about the Founder's Edition preorder, or about Tommy's style and mode of communication, remember: everybody here is perfectly capable of making their own decisions and dealing with the consequences.  If you don't like the idea of the Founder's Edition preorder, you don't have to buy the preorder.  If you don't like the way Tommy chooses to answer questions or address critics in this thread, you don't have to read the thread.  If anyone feels that any rules are being broken, certainly continue to let us know; otherwise, please don't presume that it is your job to moderate the forums or to protect other peoples' money or feelings.

My avatar pic was changed to R-Type. Just useless info you'd like to know. But I saw that Granzella is making a new R-Type Final 2 for the SteamXSwitchStations & came across this...

Looks like they may be doing a mash up of R-Type and Moon Patrol for certain stages. Yous Guys should put that on a back burner for any sequels you may do in the future. 😍

We are very close with the Irem folks and will definitely take a look!

An alternative way of looking at it is some people have the integrity of their own opinions. While this doesn't violate Jaybird's latest ruling, and it's more than valid, I expect you'll see that it's deleted Tommy. So like Pat and Ian's offerings, what did you promise the other guy to change his opinion so radically?

The only reason you are in here is to cause trouble.  What a fun existence you must lead... reading each and every post here so you can post something negative.  What a bitter person you must be in real life as well.  I almost feel sorry for you (but not really).  I can feel your jealousy through the monitor.  :)

For the record (which I'm sure folks have read in the past) I have ZERO control over what goes on here and I actually don't mind challenging posts as it allows me to make fools like you look bad.  Saying I somehow have control over the mods is quite frankly... disrespectful to the mods.

But instead of just making you look bad (which you successful do on your own with each typed word) I also want to use this moment to bring up the following...

Yesterday we saw Haytham Gruxtom post a pretty negative review about Amico on YouTube.  I left a simple few lines as a comment on his video and a few counterpoints and look what happened less than 24 hours later!

A 360 degree turn around.

Also important to note (as we were speaking about this earlier) that it was Pat & Ians toxicity that made him feel the way he did.  He talks about it at length in the new video.  As soon as he heard my side and found out the truth of the situation (realizing that I didn't in fact attack those guys)... he immediately changed his tune.  This is exactly why I do what I do in these instances.  I turned a complete negative into a complete positive with a few sentences.  I'm aware that interacting in this way may rub folks the wrong way and make myself look bad in the process.  But it's very important that there are more positive videos out there than negative.  More important that there is good information out there then wrong information.  I'm willing to sacrifice what people may think about me... for the "cause".  Because quite frankly... I don't care what folks think of me personally on the internet.  I really don't.  If I did, I would be much more phony and guarded.  I put it all out there.  It's the product that is the most important thing to me.

The reason folks like JBeral don't understand why this happens (so they spout crap like I somehow bribe these people) is because they themselves don't realize that being respectful and nice and spitting facts works a lot better than just waiting for the next negative thing to spout off so your ego doesn't continued getting bruised.

:)

Excuse me, but nobody here "sees to it" that anybody's posts are deleted or hidden, except for the moderating team.  If someone refers us to a post that they think should be removed, whether it's a post written by somebody else or one that they wrote themselves but later had second thoughts about, we'll certainly take it under consideration, but any and all moderating decisions are entirely our own.

So he's now insinuated that Tommy bribes his critics and has the moderators here in his back pocket.  I wonder if he can offer any support for those claims, because if he's just assuming the worst intentions and making unsubstantiated accusations on that basis, that to me is sufficient grounds for being blocked from this thread.

I don't understand it.  I can understand that someone might objectively have doubts about the viability of the Amico venture, or that Tommy's style might rub them the wrong way, but to allow oneself to get worked up over a video game console to the point of behaving this way and flinging accusations of this kind is just crazy.

Welcome to my world!

I enjoy coming here and reading people’s thoughts on the new console, and appreciate Tommy letting us peak behind the curtain to see a few things not available elsewhere...but I’m probably gonna wait for my correspondence via email for all things Intellivision.

Don't let a few negative haters deter you from being here.  That is their main objective.  To get you to leave (and a few of them have made it clear in other posts)... they would like to see all of us "pack up and leave".

Don't let them win.

Hope you'll stick around.
