Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Yes.  Save states for sure.

Yeah... all modern consoles pretty much require firmware updates at this point.. especially if you want to add cool stuff down the road.  Just as an example... lets say Disney+ wanted to offer a year free to all Amico owners... then something like that would need a firmware update... or... another example would be offering online play to friends around the world, etc.

Bottom line... it would need to be something pretty major and very cool for the customers.

We do NOT intend on doing software updates... unless... there is some major bug that needs to be fixed, etc.

Thank you for answering my questions Tommy.  I was also curious if the Amico will include a one year warranty & instruction manual and not just a quick start guide?

As a younger lad only way I was swayed to bug parents to buy as new video game system was playing it at a buddies house!

As an adult a reviewer never swayed me one way or the other to buy a product.

Were they not enthusiastically shouting into the camera enough?

Did they not say "greatest ______ ever"  4.6 times per review?

Did they forget to add cleavage in the thumbnail??  Dunno man, reviewers these days just don't understand the artform I guess.

I was doing some random snooping online today (looking at Intellivision cartridges on eBay) and found something quite unexpected and very interesting, and might be right up the Family-Friendly theme of Amico.

There is it seems a card game called 'Once Upon a Time' that is I would say is best described as friendly competitive. The object of the game is to create a good story, and to do so each player is dealt a hand of cards containing characters, objects, places, and events. It seems you tell a story based on these cards, and if you mention a character/object/place/event on a card another player has, they can 'interrupt' and then take over telling the story. The game ends when one player uses up all their cards (It seems every player also has an Ending 'moral of the story' card to be played last) and the story is then finished.

I am not sure how interested they would be in offering a digital licence, but it does seem to be a popular game (with a few awards and nominations), they say a game runs from 20 to 60 minutes; so not a huge time sink, and it is family friendly. On the Amico there is the potential for things like animating the cards, having them interact with each other as the story goes on; and perhaps even an option to watch the completed story being told at the end?

... plus, Will Wheaton!

I can't wait to show everyone what the "manual" will look and be like!!

We're still figuring out the warranty stuff.  I'm sure it's going to be the same as the others.

Tommy, is there something coming within the next few days ? (Screen shot, video, demo, news ... )

Thank you. 🙂

No.  Lots of big retailer meetings all this week (out of town) and finalizing hardware over the next month.    D.I.C.E. convention in Vegas next week, Toy Fair in NYC the week after.  Hoping to have an entire Moon Patrol level completed.

I like Once Upon a Time but it really really requires the right group of friends and I would say it would be harder for kids. Heck the idea behind it is hard for teens and adults. I own it and like it but I feel it wouldn't work out well as a digital game at all. I would still recommend it and it would be good for an end of the year English class appropriate game to get students to interact and try to do story telling.

I think games like Catan, Ticket to Ride, Pandemic, Forbidden Desert, Killer Bunnies/Unstable Unicorns, Banx (neat take on Yahtzee), Sheriff of Nottingham, Coup, Carcassone, would be way more suited for digital.

I know there are some others I'm forgetting.

i was thinking that Wizard Of Wor would be an awesome remake...it was one of the 1st co-op 2 player games in the arcade

and a 4 player version on the Amico would be pretty sweet

Tommy,

At E3 will you be showing how physical media works on the Amico?

I've been wanting to know more about this ever since you first mentioned it.

Yep!

I tried to play Iron Dragon with my mom and nephew once. What a disaster that was. Nephew ran out of money after like four turns and mom was utterly over-whelmed by the rules. 2-4 hour game abandoned after 30 minutes.

@Tommy Tallarico my daughter adores Animal Crossing on her 2DS, she was looking forward to the new one on the Switch (New Horizons) but at £50??... So, have you any plans to do an Animal Crossing style game for Amico at all? ;-)

The game prices are getting crazy right?!!?  I have an Animal Crossing style game on our "to do" list and have been looking for something in the realm from an indie studio on either Steam, Kickstarter, mobile or something that already exists on Switch.  Something we might be able to improve on, put some money and resources into and potentially move over to Amico as a unique product (and co-op!).  Those games are very detailed and take a LONG time to make from scratch... so right now we're trying to find a potential head start and alternative that we can get together for launch.

If anyone out there is familiar with anything like that... please let me know.

Also... Adam... please ask your daughter if she knows of anything AND what kind of game would she like to play with her dad together on Amico.

Just wanted to let folks in here know that I just received an email forwarded to me from someone (whom I don't really even know that well) showing me an e-mail that he received from Tonytgd.

In the e-mail Tony says that I "buy off my critics" and he was trying to get more information about it for his "hit piece".

I realize and appreciate that some hardcores find it difficult to see outside their own bubbles.  I get it.  Disagreeing with our overall vision is totally fine.  Not liking the style of games we're doing... again... totally fine.

I just find it interesting and hilarious/sad how certain folks feel the need to tear me and the console down and tell me how wrong I am, how stupid we are, how much the machine and games suck, how we have no right to censor horrible things people say on our own social media pages, how the only reason someone would like the machine is if I paid them off, ignore the fact that Nintendo games show nudity and rape, call me a liar, etc.

All because we want to create something affordable, unique and different that brings family and friends together.  HOW DARE I!!  :)

Unbelievable.

Lucky for us, these folks are very much the minority.   It's like when they say that our graphics and games look like mobile games... as if it's a bad thing.  So, it's bad that our games look like the games that 94.3% of all people around the world play everyday and they are comfortable seeing and playing?  OK!  Thanks!

:)

Wishing the underdog well but disagreeing with the vision is one thing.  Constantly trying to figure out new ways to tear us down, call us liars and cry foul is another.

Not looking for pity... I've had to deal with bullies my entire life... I'm used to it.  It drives them nuts when I stand up for myself and what I believe in.

I'm just starting a conversation to show how ridiculous some folks are and how far they are willing to take things... all over a family friendly video game console.

People are strange.

😵🤪🤮
