Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Recommended Posts

I wonder what Tommy's thoughts are on subscription services.  I just cancelled my Xbox Game Pass because I never use it. I have too big a back catalog and I can't find time for the games I actually own. Oh well, more money I can save for Amico.

No politics, please, neither here nor anywhere else on AtariAge.

This line sounds like it comes from a Dr. Suess AtariAge book. Just need to fix the flo of it and make sure it  ends on the rhyme.

We will not have it here or there. We will not have it anywhere!

I love the Amico, I do indeed

I love the Amico. It's what I need.

I will play it in my house.

I will play it with my spouse.

I will play it here and there.

I will play it everywhere.

The Amico, the Amico is all I need.

Yes, I love the Amico. I do indeed.

Hello everyone, new here and I've been enjoying reading about Amico. I've ordered a founders edition when it went live so I'm excited!  I had a couple of super hero questions for Tommy.

1. Will the amico have super hero games? Like batman /spiderman ect

2.and if yes is it possible to get games like spiderman maximum carnage or any other of the older super hero games that were on genesis/snes/arcade? It would be a dream to play some of those games with coop and a cool comic art style.

3.this one is not a question but I just want to tell tommy, you are awesome! Your doing something I've been asking for years, a console that focuses on multiplayer, great music being a priority and finally someone that wants to make games that are fun and simple like they used to be. Played the adventures of batman and robin on genesis last week with my brother and had a blast with a simple but addictive gameplay that ended in less than 3 hours. Had more fun than playing red dead 2 (got bored riding a horse for 10 minutes) good game but Jesus I just want to play not hold up for 20 minutes till I get to the next objective. Your the man Tommy! I'll be there on day one as a fan and supporter

If they can get Disney IPs that should cover Marvel stuff. Minus possibly Spiderman depending on how games and stuff would be handled vs the movies.

Tommy already said warner bros are cool with intellivision. Here's hoping for a batman beyond game  or  batman the animated series. It justice league.  Or games with other DC comics characters like the question  which is one of my favorite. Or jonah  hex.  Could do a dc legends of tomorrow based game that could easily cross multiple genres.

If E3 pulls the plug this year, this might just be the end of them. Which would be a pity. I have never attended, but I do enjoy watching the various streams of the event and reading the industry announcements coming from E3.

It is also 4 months from now, in June. I would be hoping the hysteria about Corona/COVID-19 would be well settled down by then and people would realize despite the non-stop media fearmongering, it is essentially just a type of cold and about as deadly. The CDC has stated a .2 to .4% mortality rate for those between the ages of 10 to 50. I would think the majority of those are from countries with poor heathcare and people with pre-existing heath conditions. So we are not exactly into Bubonic plague numbers here.

On average the regular strains of flu are responsible for 12-30K deaths globally a year, and for hundreds of thousands of cases of hospitalizations of those seriously ill with it, and one does not see this level of panic over those statistics. Or mass toilet paper buying *eyeroll* Seriously, that is the thing here right now; people panic buying a decades worth of toilet paper. Why? No one knows. There are no announced (or even rumored) shortages, and unlike electronics China is certainly not the main source of it.

I do believe Tommy has said he has plans in place if E3 was cancelled, but it is still unfortunate that he might have to fall back on his 'Plan B' as I am thinking the Amico would have been a hit at E3. Announcements, videos, system specs are all great for promoting the system but I suspect that some actual hands-on time really would help sell the console and get it some serious media attention and chatter. E3 would have been the perfect place for letting regular people, influencers, and the various article writers all try the system out for themselves.

I guess we will have to wait and see what E3 themselves has to say on this, but 'E3 to be cancelled' is now being reported by multiple sources so I suspect it is under serious consideration, if not actual fact.

I've seen this line of reasoning before and I just don't understand how people can think like this.

The mortality, across the whole population, appears to be about 3.4%.

Yes, the old and those with pre-existing health conditions are more susceptible. So... what?  That doesn't give you license to simply go "they don't matter - the young and fit are OK so we don't need to take precautions to protect those who are vulnerable".  Because that's what that sort of statement is implying. Basically we shouldn't worry because only (mostly) the old/infirm are dying of the disease?  Bizarre.

Regardless of age group, 3.4% mortality across all age groups is significantly higher than influenza. Mortality for seasonal influenza is quoted at typically less than 0.1%. Again, across all age groups. Pushing the idea that coronavirus is no worse than influenza is misguided and wrong. This is a serious health risk, and the reason that whole countries are entering into quarrantine is because of that risk. It's not some sort of media-led frenzy that we can safely ignore.

I'm down to just 32 rolls of toilet paper here. I don't know what I'm going to do....

The old and those with existing heath problems are always the ones worst effected by any illness, this is not something new and exotic just for COVID-19.

I would be 100% behind hospitals and care homes taking a zero tolerance towards chances of infection, and having any potential staff self-quarantine rather then risk spreading it to the most vulnerable. That is just common sense.

That said, I do not see the point to nation-wide panicking and shutting down public events and gatherings. Statistically, this is practically no more communicable or deadly then most colds and flus are; it certainly is nowhere near being into Ebola or Black Plague territory. You have about the same chance of being infected with TB as dying from COVID-19. I do believe the media is intentionally over-hyping it, just like they did with SARS, Bird Flu, Swine Flu/H1N1 and probably a few others that do not immediately come to mind. Perhaps I am wrong this time, but when the media bleats 'Global Pandemic! Panic! Panic!' every few years like clockwork, you get desensitized to it.

Intellimission is also correct, again according to the CDC (whom I presume know their stuff on this topic), COVID-19 is just the most recent strain of the Coronavirus (Covid-19 is literally just labeling this as the 2019 strain). An infection that the CDC say most people have had at some time been infected by one or more strains of, and because it it is symptomatically much like a cold, the vast majority never even know they have had it or required treatment for it. So the 3.4% number is misleading as it is not of the total population, but 3.4% of those sick enough to require medical attention and are then tested.

As to the toilet paper craze, perhaps people are expecting in the event of a total collapse of civilization that it will become the new currency? Perhaps instead of Yen and USD we will be using squares of Charmin and Angel Soft, and their net value will depend on how many plys they have? :D

Anyways, as this is supposed to be an Amico thread I should make mention again that no E3 will be a blow to the Amico. With Sony stepping aside, the Amico had a chance to steal the spotlight and get some serious word of mouth and free media promotion. It seems Intellivision might have to dip into their advertising budget a bit sooner then expected to replace the expected E3 coverage?

Although your right that being the only new console launch on the main E3 floor would be nice, E3 isn’t free, far from it, and is already a big dip into their marketing budget. So basically E3 money will be used for virtual press conferences, trips to media outlets for hands on demos, shipped evaluation units for review, reviewer guides and other old school press interactions techniques. The good news is that Tommy is very personable and would work well in this more deliberate rollout; media interactions can be more targeted, slower pace and done/published in off peak news cycles; and finally moms and mom influencers don’t really go to E3 so it was a bit off target branding wise anyway - Good Houskeeping and The View would have to have been targeted separately anyway.

Not saying your wrong - a big E3 splash would have been really nice but it was just “step 1” anyway.

Best thing outside of E3 would just be some great hands-on videos of people playing and enjoying the games.  That kind of thing could go viral if it looks fun and not staged with paid actors.

Anyone remember the first official demo video of Rock Band with some Harmonix folks jamming to it? I was already interested because of GH, but that video made me *need* it. (apologies for crappy version, best I could find)

Guys, the 3.5 % mortality rates are calculated using detected cases, not total number of cases... Most cases don't produce symptoms and are cured without ever being detected.

That's the same with every thing in life. We don't know the total number cases of influenza either but we still gather it's 0.1%.

The mortality rate of car crashes are calculated using detected crashes, not total number of crashes. What if someone crashed their car in the mountain and was never found...?

I'm not sure we can use the argument that "most cases go undetected so don't worry."

Okay... So 3.4% of the total people who get sick die from it.

That's not a better picture.

to clarify. of those effected, 80% will see mild and flu like symptoms and be fine, some may even be asymptomatic ( which is nice but troublesome since they will not likely know they have it all the while they are spreading it)  20% with it will need extra care, doctor visit etc. Its though a little over 10% will need hospitalization and up to 3% who get it may die, usually older people with other health concerns. The BIG issue, is with the numbers they believe will get this our Nations hospitals simply cant treat this many people, they dont have the rooms, or the ventilators. US has nearly 1 million hospital beds, on a regular day 7oo k are occupied. less than 300 k are what are left and many of these will not be suitable. So if 20 million get this and that may be a low number in the US, where do we find 2 million beds and the people to treat?

anyway I thought I share since I am following this closely as we have had to inform our clients of our ability to provide our services when this hit ( my company has gone fully remote) we have some key coders who simply cant get sick or I am screwed)

so dont take this lightly, it is and will be an bad historic event

anyway back to more fun stuff, Did any of you guys play microsurgeon back in the day?

I suspect many people in this forum will find the following article interesting: Coronavirus is not killing 3.4% of patients. How the rate got inflated and why it will get lower.

I'm using this link

https://www.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6

Which shows that of the confirmed cases, 121,000 or so, there have been 4,373 deaths.

Intellivision Entertainment should do something live from their studio on June 9, or from Vancouver with Electric Playground Network with Victor Lucas !?

Everyone will be missing all those live events from E3, so we should have something for everyone looking for something on youtube !?

Have systems on the floor with spectators playing. Invite several youtuber, etc.

E3 is cancelled for many reasons. Virus for sure, but also because companies have to prepare well in advance.

It's possible that in May, Covid-19 will be almost done.

So preparing something in about 3 or 4 weeks for IE would be possible, many will already have these same open dates in their calendar.

I am confident in you and your team Tommy. 😀

Edit : It is sad what happens, because one of Amico's objectives is to bring people together, and what is happening does not help us to achieve this objective !

There are rumors that Sony and Microsoft may delay the release of the new consoles.

I hope that will not be the case for Amico. The curious hard core gamer, tired of waiting could maybe try Amico !? 🤔

I did not, but... I LOVE the Trauma Center games!  Not sure if that's related in any way, but seems like it should be.  😃   Those could sure make for some fun, easy to pick up, family friendly co-op and competitive gaming experiences that could be a great fit for any system that may wanna go that route.

It is one of the Intellivision games I have always wanted to try. Once I get this Tandyvision I purchased working I will see about finding myself a copy. Hopefully with inserts as they seem to be essential to being able to play the game.

Worst case scenario I can wait a year and a half for it to come out on the Amico. I am pretty sure Tommy has mentioned Intellivision has the rights to the entire Imagic library; so I would hope at some point it will be released as one of the 2021 retro title games on the system.
