Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

That looks like fun.  Hopefully it comes to Amico.

PBA Bowling Challenge by Concrete is an incredible game. I play it on my Kindle all the time. Unfortunately, though, they stopped developing the Kindle version, but it still plays well.

Each tournament has its unique challenges, and there are a series of bonus circuits in fun settings such as a beach, a graveyard, Jurassic period (where the pins are inside a dinosaurs mouth) and others tied into popular culture (Frozen, Game of Thrones, etc.), unique balls such as a pumpkin.

But gameplay itself is probably the most amazing element. . .while getting better bowling balls definitely helps progress through the game, some events and tournaments are next to impossible unless you find the right ball to use, and sometimes in the later events, that can be a weaker ball from earlier in the game.

I was thinking about Moonpatrol and multiplayer. How is it going to work.. one is driving and one is shooting? That would be awesome. It looks like there is no room for two vehicles on the ground.

I remember Silk Worm which had helicopter and jeep, great co-op game on C64 and Amiga. Maybe Moonpatrol has also a flying vehicle?

Other players can play the enemy ships.

Wouldn't that be something if we had both?

Tommy shows up about 35 minutes into the video.  There's a bad echo when Tommy first comes on.  It stops after 5 minutes.

This was a good interview.  It has some funny moments.  By the way Tommy mentions that the Moon Patrol demo will get a full level at the end of this month.  I hope I heard him correctly on that.

Tommy,

I thought the 25% off coupon for the FE & VIP was going to be for when the console launched. Then we used the coupon in the online store on Amico to buy a digital game at a discount.  But since we'll have the gift card, that helps too.  Anyway, it's all good.  I just wasn't sure how you were going to do the 25% off discount at first.  Originally it was only for the VIP.  Then you added it to the FE which was very nice of you.  I can't wait to see what new merchandise you add to the IE shop.

YES!!!  I look forward to getting a picture of you and your wife playing Amico and video games TOGETHER AGAIN!!!!!!!!

Well if you put out a bowling game (which I believe you said would be coming) and Yahtzee she will be all in.  When we go camping she is the “Yahtzee Nazi”!  Any hint of rain in the forecast and the Yahtzee game has to come out!  Using the controller to roll the dice to the screen is a no brainer, just like Farkle.  Didn’t quit see it in the Farkle trailer, but it would be cool to see the dice on your controller screen being shaken up and then thrown to the screen.  If you do release Yahtzee then I will need to put a TV in the camper to bring Amico along.  It doesn’t have one now because we camp to unplug, eat, read,.....drink!  Oh yeah, and hang out with each other, the dogs, and the kids when they make an appearance.

Haha! I got the same from my sweetie wife - she saw Farkle and immediately said "ooh, they need to do Yahtzee!"

That is all real in game music and sound design!

The soundtrack (which will be sold separately) is gonna be AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

Sounds great (literally)!

I’ve heard lack of sleep is detrimental; and I can confirm, your lack of sleep is detrimental...  to my wallet.  Do you spend every waking moment coming up with different ways to get into my bank account?

But seriously, think this is going to be some of the best money I’ve spent in a long time (again, literally). Thanks for bringing some corporate credibility back to the gaming industry and working so hard to bring us what is looking to be an awesome system (and by system I mean the entire system: HW, SW, retail concepts, developer partnering, family focus, etc.).

I have noticed that some people are concerned about the cost of $9.99 Amico games. If I recall correctly, the original Mattel Intellivision games were $29.99. According to online inflation calculators, $1 in 1980 is equal to $3.14 in 2020. That means we were paying $94.17 for games in 1980 based on 2020 values. I'll pay $9.99 for quality games all day long!

Does anyone recall what the prices for Mattel Intellivision games were in 1980? Were they all priced the same? What about Activision, Imagic and others?

I'm wary of comparisons with these inflation calculators - the Consumer Price Index lags in reflecting the cost in its basket of goods (factors of cost take years to work through lines of production), inflation isn't realized in real time and the comparable costs of goods aren't evaluated in relation to standard of living or the relative amount a given item's purchase weighs within disposable income.  It neglects entirely purchasing power, and it dismisses entirely the general rapid reduction in cost of consumer electronics.

That's a bit why video games, even those absent DLC and hidden costs, still retail for $39.99 - $59.99 25 years after those prices were pretty uniform.  Were they to have risen with cost of inflation, were these calculators realistic, those new Super Nintendo games in the early 90s.. would have felt, psychologically, like a $111 purchase today.  Likewise, that $299.99 new Intellivision did not approximate to nearly $1,100 for those consumers in 1979, who, mostly, bought the thing for its game value, not as a discount computer.  (By the way, those same calculators would price the home computer back then at about $4,000.  It was considered an expensive hobby, but not that kinda expensive hobby...)

I have an old grad paper on this somewhere, I want to dust it off and make a long post, per request by @Michael Garvey  ;-)    Definitely ought to do a blog or video about it - those meme infographic with the comparative cost of consoles are... misleading.

If someone is concerned about a video game costing only $10, then not only is the Amico not for them, but also video games are not for them.  They would be better off playing kick the can or something! 😄

I have pre-ordered the Founders edition Amico, I am situated in the UK so I will need to buy an Adapter kit (according to Amico VIP pre-order FAQ).

I am not sure what type of adapter I need as I do not want to blow-up the unit when I plug it in.

Will the Amico be dual-voltage which means I can use a travel adapter (I can get one that has POWERFUL 10A OUTLET will this be sufficient - it says it can be used for consoles)

Or if not will I need a voltage converter/transformer ? (I have not looked into this yet)

This is a question better answered by @RxScram!

So way to go tommy on the news of retrosoft studios doing the amico wrestling game.  I'm already looking forward to retromania on pc. As they got the technos licence for that to be sequel to wwf wrestlefest and mat mania.

They have a few companies licensed to be in the game already.   One is the NWA (national wrestling alliance) its roots go back to the beginnings of pro wtestling.

Right now the nwa are on a resurgence and are having s great underdog rise back to prominence.   Billy corgan of the smashing pumpkins owns it

How cool would it be to get an nwa licensed game based on the nwa power wrestling program.  Music by tommy talarico,  billy corgan. But you gotta get these 2 on board to create any entrance themes for the game. Jimmy hart (famous wrestling manager, but was a musician  in the 60s he had 1 single  hit.  "Keep on dancing "  but he created many of the best entrance themes.  And Jim Johnston .jim created majority of the wwf music from the 90s to mid 2000s and no.ones done better than those 2.

I watched the podcast you did tonight and the guys said retrosoft would love to do an rpg

A wrestling career  mode could have rpg elements  wee had universe mode and games had storymode..

But no.ones went full.on with rpg elements for a wrestling game.

Also as a wrestling game you can also just say matches and not get involved in the career mode /rpg.

Wrestling gamers are hardcore about good games.. they dont care what system  long as it's a great game. Plus wrestling fans arent afraid of casual...but being a wrestling game you have to  think much like nightstalker on who will be more interested in wrestling :) it can be for both with more of a hardcore lean . Maybe a arcade mode and mode for more learning toward the wrestling fan base.

Best thing about wrestling  you can have 8 players

Just based on team matches not counting gimmick matches like cage or ladder matches.

4 vs 4

4 corners tag team and tag team elimination

4 team tornado tag its luchador rules where when someone is out of the ring another player from team can chose to replace them without a tag if they choose.

Battle royal.  This can go multiple ways 8 man battle royal for just users or you can make it 10 or more with ai for a few players and 8 users.

Amico can be a lot of fun  for couch co op wrestling since can have more than 4 players.

Either way I'm sold .

This is nwa power which billy corgan produces. It's done as a throwback to wrestling territory days of the 50s til 80s where every region  had a studio wrestling show weekly.    Retrosoft are working with the nwa on retromania

Yeah... we've started e-mailing back and forth!

Just FYI, if you're waiting for your Atari VCS, apparently it's delayed due to COVID-19.  If not for this pandemic, we would have seen this console everywhere this month.

LOL!  And pigs would be flying too! 🤣

That's all pretty interesting and heady stuff but all I know is 40 years ago I was paying $30 for a game and come 10-10-2020 I'll be paying only $10, so I will be one very, very happy camper!!!! 😀😀😀
