Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

I have noticed that some people are concerned about the cost of $9.99 Amico games. If I recall correctly, the original Mattel Intellivision games were $29.99. According to online inflation calculators, $1 in 1980 is equal to $3.14 in 2020. That means we were paying $94.17 for games in 1980 based on 2020 values. I'll pay $9.99 for quality games all day long!

Does anyone recall what the prices for Mattel Intellivision games were in 1980? Were they all priced the same? What about Activision, Imagic and others?

Sounds like a question for @cmart604 or @Lathe26!

I don't have any numbers from 1980, but here's what I do have:

  • Ardan Summer 1982 - games were $31.95 (just Astrosmash, Baseball, Football, Space Armada, Space Battle).  Intellivision $299.95
  • Radio Shack 1983 - games were $37.95 (Star Strike was $42.95).  Note that the Tandyvision One sold for $389.95
  • Weller Bros Wholesale Sept 1983 - games were $30.00 to $36.00 (except for Sharp Shot, Kool-Aid Man, and Frog Bog at $19.50, $22.50, and $22.50, respectively).  Intellivision II is $169.95
  • Telegames USA 1993 (very late year) - games ranges from $7.95 to 19.95
    • $7.95 - Mattel Space Spartans
    • $9.95 - Most Mattel
    • $14.95 - Activision, Imagic, Atarisoft, Coleco, Parker Bros (Q*bert, Popeye)
    • $17.95 - Interphase, Parker Bros (Frogger, Tutankham, Star Wars), Mattel Soccer
    • $19.95 - INTV
  • JHC Electronics Aug 1993 - games ranges from $12.95 to $19.95.  Super Pro System $79.95

Note: Weller Bros listed the Deluxe Joy Stick Controller for $24.50 !!

That sounds like the same troll who's been leaving similar comments on other videos that have dared to be positive, or even neutral or open-minded, about the Amico.  There have been others disparaging AtariAge specifically, and some have even mentioned me, which is flattering.

By merely copying and pasting that comment into your post, you've already given it more time and attention than it deserves.  Anyone who would put this much effort into trolling over a video game consoleparticularly one that they have no intention of buying anyway and have never even seen in personis a barren, miserable, worthless piece of garbage.  Their opinion should have no significance whatsoever, to you or to anyone else.  Just kick them to the curb like they deserve, and remain focused on the positive.

Of course it is.  Do you see how he "conveniently" stretches in these videos so he can show it off?  I think it looks fantastic.

This is a question better answered by @RxScram!

Hi @Pathfinder!

We are using a universal power supply (120/240V, 50/60Hz), so all you will need is a travel adapter! We pull less than 1 amp at either 120 or 240, so there shouldn't be any need for a heavy duty version.

Also, I believe (but this may have changed) that for FE editions only (not VIP) we will be supplying travel adapters for all of the international orders. I will confirm and get back to you on that.

Anyone who is mean to someone as nice as you has a very cold heart and probably a miserable life.  You're right that they need a hug more than anything else in the world.

Agreed. This thread gives too much attention to the haters which is exactly what they want. He's probably in total glee he got copy pasted here.

Then we should all give more attention to the great people on here.

I think we should all mention something nice about someone on here and see if we can't get everyone one mentioned (i.e. maybe we could not duplicate any names so everyone feels included).

I'll start....

I get a nice warm feeling everytime Intellivision Master likes one of my posts.  I dont think there's a post I do that goes by without a like from Intellivision Master.

What a nice and welcoming gesture and it makes me feel valued.

🙂

James C  has been against intellivision Amico longer than anyone I've seen. He's been giving Tommy a hard time on YouTube longer than anybody.

ommy, what are your thoughts on Atari v Intellivision and in particular this article!

I wonder if they will try to pay him with their new Atari cryptocurrency.  I wish I was making that up, but Atari really is creating and releasing a cryptocurrency.  At this point why not... insanity

Of course, believe it or not not everyone is HERE, any forum is a bubble and though I not a Reddit fan myself it is a huge platform. No doubt he will capture a lot of attention of people that don't live and breath retro gaming 24/7.

Cue controversial topic, not meant to be disrespectful:

So, the good part of the games being cheap is we won't have to miss the much lower prices of used games that are available for most other systems. I'm not sure, but I imagine the RFID collectibles with be non-transferable, by internet check. I wonder if someone deleted it off their system, the collectible could be used for another system?

However, I know a lot a lot A LOT of people are still buying and selling games for gamecube, Wii, PS1, PS2 and Xbox, as well as earlier systems, even though the companies have stopped supporting them years ago. So, I think the ability to buy games for the system after it is not supported will be missed. There's also publishers pulling games from online stores due to disputes with the developers, just to stop them from getting royalties or other reasons. Other times, with sales online, licensors can pull a title due to wanting to re-negotiate or similar. These reasons make the games available to buy for an even shorter amount of time. Some may joke, or worse yet, be serious and just say to buy all the games as soon as they come out. Well, that would be nice, but maybe not realistic for everyone and certainly not for people who may become interested in the future. As far as making the catalog available on system shutdown, that would only be for titles that the IE owns or the licensors agree to, similar to the situation with Intellivision Lives/Rocks and even the packs of original games coming out sometime next year.

Hopefully, there is some way to allow for continued availability of the games in the distant or not so distant future (in the case of licensor spats). I could be wrong, but I think this may be the first console to be download only, which does make me a fair amount leery of the slippery slope of an all download or all streaming future where the games are all disposable, like on the App stores. Also, the unavailability to future interested parties. I do know the reasons why others embrace the digital only future. So, I know there are other viewpoints and digital media has it's several advantages over physical media and a lot of people could really care less about the games being available to future people as other games will be made, which is basically saying nostalgia has no value and Atari, Intellivision, NES, Genesis, etc., games are all completely disposable in value.

I do understand that it saves money on the console and games can be put on sd or usb storage (which I would assume is keyed only to the one machine), so I understand the reasoning, but just wanted to share my thoughts and concerns on it. I mean, I've bought a few games off Steam, but I'm not thrilled with the idea. Hopefully, if the system does well, IE can find a solution to make the games permanently available to the masses ad infinitum and not left to the chance of  system hacking 8 years from now or the good will of the game licensors.

EDIT: Uggh, you could write a book on this. But, I wanted to add, I also understand online and streaming is pretty much beyond the saving point, with the sheer volume. I imagine it may be like the librarians who have to go to the dumpster late at night when no one is around to dispose of old books. What is unique about Amico, though, is the catalogue does seem like it will be manageable, without 50 games a week or whatever. It sounds like it will be more like about 50-100 per year for the Amico.

So way to go tommy on the news of retrosoft studios doing the amico wrestling game.  I'm already looking forward to retromania on pc. As they got the technos licence for that to be sequel to wwf wrestlefest and mat mania.

They have a few companies licensed to be in the game already.   One is the NWA (national wrestling alliance) its roots go back to the beginnings of pro wtestling.

Right now the nwa are on a resurgence and are having s great underdog rise back to prominence.   Billy corgan of the smashing pumpkins owns it

How cool would it be to get an nwa licensed game based on the nwa power wrestling program.  Music by tommy talarico,  billy corgan. But you gotta get these 2 on board to create any entrance themes for the game. Jimmy hart (famous wrestling manager, but was a musician  in the 60s he had 1 single  hit.  "Keep on dancing "  but he created many of the best entrance themes.  And Jim Johnston .jim created majority of the wwf music from the 90s to mid 2000s and no.ones done better than those 2.

I watched the podcast you did tonight and the guys said retrosoft would love to do an rpg

A wrestling career  mode could have rpg elements  wee had universe mode and games had storymode..

But no.ones went full.on with rpg elements for a wrestling game.

Also as a wrestling game you can also just say matches and not get involved in the career mode /rpg.

Wrestling gamers are hardcore about good games.. they dont care what system  long as it's a great game. Plus wrestling fans arent afraid of casual...but being a wrestling game you have to  think much like nightstalker on who will be more interested in wrestling :) it can be for both with more of a hardcore lean . Maybe a arcade mode and mode for more learning toward the wrestling fan base.

Best thing about wrestling  you can have 8 players

Just based on team matches not counting gimmick matches like cage or ladder matches.

4 vs 4

4 corners tag team and tag team elimination

4 team tornado tag its luchador rules where when someone is out of the ring another player from team can chose to replace them without a tag if they choose.

Battle royal.  This can go multiple ways 8 man battle royal for just users or you can make it 10 or more with ai for a few players and 8 users.

Amico can be a lot of fun  for couch co op wrestling since can have more than 4 players.

Either way I'm sold .

This is nwa power which billy corgan produces. It's done as a throwback to wrestling territory days of the 50s til 80s where every region  had a studio wrestling show weekly.    Retrosoft are working with the nwa on retromania

I started watching wrestling around 1985 with WWF and later NWA when we got cable around 87-88. I don't watch wrestling anymore but i know i'm probably missing out on good stuff these days. I used to go watch a local promotion a few years back. But i stopped that too. I do miss the old days. I was the most hardcore wrestling fan up until the mid 2000's. But it was time for me to move on. Every week on WWE it was John Cena vs Randy Orton and it got so boring plus listening to Michael Cole every week. And on TNA i never could stand Mike Tenay's voice. The wrestling can be great but the announcers can take you out of it. I kept hearing great things about ROH and now AEW but i could never get myself to tune in. I think i prefer to live in the past. But would love a new wrestling game that was a throwback to the past. I always meant to get into Fire Pro Wrestling for PS2 but it came out just as i was losing interest. I bought it and put it on the shelf and didn't touch it and eventually sold it. Been thinking of getting another copy and giving it another chance.
