Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Recommended Posts

I could only stomach so much of that interview. As the person who initially got in a fight with TonyTGD on Reddit and stupidly brought him here where he just went wild, I'm kind of amazed he sounded so calm in a lot of that. When you read him online he just sounds like he's always angry or always trying to be innately sarcastic. So if you read this TonyTGD, good job keeping composure. It's harder to act so wild over voice but still, good job.

I want to commend Tommy again for going out of his way to challenge TonyTGD online and step it up and back it up in an "in-person" interview with all the toughest questions that Tony could throw at him. Tommy let Tony take control a lot in that "interview" and the respect Tommy showed for him even despite the constant grumpiness Tony displayed really says a lot and shows Tommy's true character. When dealing with the most uneducated haters, how you act tells everyone what kind of person you are. I think Tommy once again showed that he just wants to make something that everyone can enjoy and his only interest is in making sure everyone tries it before just hating on it and jumping to conclusions immediately based on their preconceived notions. Of course he wants to make a profit as well, but also importantly showing that this is possible in the first place seems like a big goal for him too.

I also just read that 10,000 units have pre-sold for Amico, which brings the total closer to 13,000 right? That's pretty awesome and already blows way past what all the haters were saying. So they will have to start moving their goalposts. "It won't sell 25,000! Oh yeah, well, it won't sell 50,000! After the marketing, it'll be lucky to hit 70,000!" etc.

I really hope the team is super pumped about this and I hope it gives a huge incentive boost for the company, especially considering this was done with no real marketing at all beyond word of mouth and some tweets. No reach outs yet to the casual sector at all. Great job guys and I'm super excited to see more games and more features of the controllers/lighting system on the console. Hopefully this raises some eyebrows in the investor world and more potential game devs or indies start noticing too.

I am really looking forward to this console. I was originally buying this console for the re-imagined games, but I will probably purchase most of the games that come out for this system. Intellivision was my favorite growing up. Purchased in 1980, and still play the games to this day. I have no interest in any systems that came out after the SNES. The Amico has brought back the excitement in gaming again. The wait will be excruciating, but well worth it.

Bhahahahaha!!!!!

Love this.

Hilarious.

I wish I knew more about beer so I could join in the fun!

Have never tried any kind of alcohol in my entire life.  I was the responsible kid who had their drivers license before any of my friends.... after that... it just kinda became my thing.  Although seeing cool cousin Steven wacked out on heroine (which scared me) when he would come off stage when I was around 10... may have had an affect as well.  My parents had "the talk" with me about drugs and alcohol at a very young age and I never wanted to disappoint them.  So fortunate to grow up with the family and friends I did.

To be honest, drinking's never been a huge part of my life as well. I'll have a beer socially, or a glass of wine with dinner from time to time. Mostly, I use alcohol for cooking.

That said, when seeing the responses, I couldn't help myself. Jokes like that tend to pop into my head like that.

Yeah... those were 2 good ones for sure.  I also thought the response of he could NEVER be friends with anyone he interviewed was interesting.

The 2 interesting things that stood out to me was...

1.  He doesn't own a Switch or Wii yet will push back on how difficult a Switch is for families to use.  If you've never experienced the complexity of a Switch for yourself... why argue that it's so simple and easy for non-gamers and casuals to operate?

2.  When he misread the data about mobile gaming trying to say that only less than 5% of people spend money on mobile games in the U.S.  Completely incorrect, but he stuck by his guns.  I asked him to post the article on in the comment section.  Once he did, it was clear that he had made a mistake and misread what the 5% in the U.S. was.  After I called him out on it I asked if he would admit that he was wrong and he misread the information.  To his credit... he agreed that he had made a mistake.

Yeah, those were interesting as well. The Mrs. was still up during the 5% part of the discussion. It seemed a little strange to her that Tony would even throw the point out there without looking into it further. Still, as you pointed out, he did admit to the error without too much prodding.

Isn't a usb-c connector unusual for a host device.  You'd need an adapter to plug in a thumb drive or other peripheral.

Short answer regarding host devices: no.  Most laptops now come with USB-C (typically a mix of A and C).

Regarding adapters for thumb drives: we're starting to see USB thumb drives come with USB-C connector in various ways.  Some come 1 USB-C connector built-in and then have a C-to-A adapter.  Some come with 1 USB-A connector built-in and then have an A-to-C adapter.  A few come with both A and C connectors built-in on opposite ends of the drive.

<note: apologies if someone already answered this question, I'm still 11 pages behind in this thread>

Tommy, my man.  That live stream last night was crazy.  First it got delayed and then it finally started but with no picture just sound.  It would've been neat to see you on video with your reactions to Tony.  Even without the picture, the whole interview was just terrible.  It was the first time I heard you do an interview about Amico where you were not happy and excited like usual. I feel like maybe you shouldn't have done that interview.  It was more like an interrogation.  But you handled it like a pro.  Well done sir.  Keep doing what you're doing.  I want the Amico to succeed and I really hope it does succeed.  Stay positive Tommy and keep fighting the good fight.  To quote a line from the movie Galaxy Quest, "Never give up, never surrender".

And what's this thing with Tony not wanting to show his face?

Never let it be said that I hide from any interviewer and no one asks me tough questions that I don't answer.   :)

I thought you did a great job answering his questions with data and facts.  You have more patience that I would have!  🙂

Yes!!  Something like Where in Time is Carmen SanDiego.  I never realized at the time, but games like that taught me so much about history without me ever realizing it.  Kind of like how Bugs Bunny gave me a deep appreciations for classical music, and I never realized it at the time.

Yes! The Carmen SanDiego series would be perfect, if feasible. Played those a ton on the SMS and the Genesis.

What if they were re-imagined in a similar art style to Safe Cracker?

Potentially putting you and the titular antagonist on a multi-game collision course, culminating in an epic stealth shootout in a co-op Spy vs Spy game

Sorry, mind went off randomly there. Lots of supposition there (my apologies on that), but it seems kind of cool, as I'm thinking

I think he likes Pizza Rolls more than the Switch.

That was a awesome moment. He promotes the Switch but doesn't even own it or care about it.

I hope Amico fits into a keyboard component contraption that turns Amico into a home computer...you know, so the kids can do their homework and mom and I can balance our budget along with working out with whatever the equivalent of Jack LaLane is nowadays. But I'm pretty sure it's something alot better than that.  😁

I am so ready for the world normalize soon.😷

I still hope from compatibility with the Kiosk Multiplexer (video here).  Then he could re-use the advertising kiosks to help sell the Amico in stores.  Imagine seeing this in a Bed, Bath, & Beyond but for the Amico!  Tommy should do this for the moneyz!

Although, I haven't figured out a way to play Wonder Boy on a Pizza Roll yet... maybe it's a closer race than I initially thought...

ColdCoffee ...

ColdCoffee

I really like your avatar.

A month ago I had a post I wanted to do. Probably having an idea while listening something about Amico and Tommy.

Knowing that one of the reason for the fail of the E.T. game was that the creator did not have the time to fulfill his vision and to take his time,

I thought to myself that could be really great to have him creating an E.T. game for Amico.

I was not sure if he was alive, so I looked on Wiki, and yes he was.

But I was not sure if he was in the industry again. I also said to myself, maybe it's not a good idea.

All the haters will make jokes about the game, saying things like "Amico with his E.T. will finish burying in the same place as the cartridges 35 years ago ! "  etc.

So I decided not to post...

So when someone ask Tommy, and that he respond " That wouldn't be something ... ! " I fell from my chair ! WoW !

And when I am looking at your really cool avatar, yes that will be so great to have an E.T. game on Amico !

ColdCoffee, you have the most wonderful avatar right now ! 😀

1246232602463236097Saw an interesting Tweet from Metal Jesus Rocks.  Apparently sales of old Wii games are going through the roof as people are looking for games they can play together as a family.  Though literally nobody plays Wii anymore, that's really fascinating...

Bed Bath and Beyond does sell those ATgames things. I could see a small kiosk like this with Amicos in the same section.

It would show people the big difference between Amico and those ATgames consoles!

Tommy, I am going to be a multi-Amico home. I am going to have one in my man cave and one in the family room. Other than walking around the house from room to room with the proper controller with the right game keys on it, is there any other way to share games across multi-amicos's in one house?

Not sure how you endured 3 hours with Tony. I would like to tell you what I really think of him, but due to forum rules I don't want to get banned from this site.

We appreciate your passion and for letting us in on this "A" ride. It's been very interesting to say the least.
