Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Apparently, they do exist FYI. https://www.amazon.com/Micro-Memory-Card-Adapter-Slot/dp/B07SSDVGJ9/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=2tb+micro+sd+card&qid=1588044389&sr=8-5

How many times over would that hold the Amico library?

Well, considering the fact that there hasn't been any releases for Amico, then the library size is currently 0

so a 2TB card can hold an infinite amount of Amico's libraries :)

Now we can only hope that eventually the released Amico library would fill up a few of these :lolblue:

I'm not sure how helpful these interviews with YouTubers who keep hating on the Amico are.

I think some of the hate is just their way of getting Tommy to ask to do an interview. And too often these guys are arrogant and uninformed.

Sometimes it is best to just leave some people be and move along.

This last guy couldn't even understand the online part of Amico. Not difficult stuff. Frustrating to even listen to some of these YouTubers.

wanted to chime in a few times, but I think you said everything I wanted to.. frustrating is a word that doesn't quite pick up what I want to convey, but it'll have to do.

Have to say I was impressed with Tommy's composure and ability to look away and reset.  I wouldn't have lasted so long..

I know this is not the right place to talk about this, but since I know of no other places to ask questions...

I just stumbled upon a video that I found very interesting. I won't name the YouTuber for two enormous reasons (she's a Chinese engineer/entertainer mainly known for her videos on 3D printing), but here's what she said in one of her videos :

Quote

STEM education products are a huge industry. Every parent is worried their kid is going to fall behind. Parents keep asking me how they can get their kid interested in STEM. Unfortunately, very few take the time to wonder, "if I'm not interested enough to learn how to use these products, why would my kid be?"

Children do as they see, before they do as they're told. They mimic the people around them. If you want your kids involved in STEM activities, the best way is for you to be involved. Sit down with your child and do it together.

I believe she's a 100% right.

20% of Amico's library is supposed to be educational products. However, up to now, apart from a few exceptions (like some of the Carmen Sandiego titles), these products have failed miserably. Parents buy them for their kids, and those kids never play with the games.

Many months ago, I said I was looking for "Math Fun" (or whatever the game will be called). I said how I used to participate in mental calculation competition in my school when I was a teenager. I said I was eager to play Math Fun with my niece.

So here's my thought : if Amico truly wants educational games to be a success, those games should first be designed for adults and tested with adults. Math fun should first be designed for a man like me, and then be adapted so kids can play the game with their parents.

If Math Fun doesn't interest me because it's designed as a game for kids, then I won't play the game. And if I don't play the game, then my niece won't play the game. I should be the target demographic for Math Fun (and other educational games), not my niece.

So Tommy, what's your thoughts on this? Do you agree or disagree?

I'm also starting to wonder if these hardcore gamer people who are totally stuck in these bubbles are actually helping anything. They have some of the most limited scope of understanding of anything outside of their direct desires I've ever seen. Some of them have absolute zero understanding of business or even the basic principles behind marketing, as well. I'm part of a lot of "fandoms," and between like... TV shows, comic books, theme parks, movies, etc. hardcore gamers seem to be the most hateful and narrow minded.

They seem to only understand their very limited worldview and are almost unable to see anything outside of it or understand that not everything is the way they see it. It's almost not even an interview at that point, it's just like... A way for them to get attention on Youtube.

The comment section is just turning into an area for people who are into games to crap on Tommy and it looks like one guy even has two accounts he's responding to himself with.

okay so i see we're pussyfooting around the reality. i dont have any problems dropping it. i do a lot of in depth analysis of these people and their consoles.

hardcore gamers are some of the dumbest fucking people on the planet. they have lived their whole lives playing only xbox and playstation at this point and probably dont even know what sega is. we are talking people who have played games for about 20 years and are in their early 30s. they probably have no education and have never done anything outside of play games. they dont have any other interests. they dont have lives outside of it. they have no life experiences either. they dont travel. they dont eat out at nice places. they dont go anywhere. they go to the game store and go home. many live with their parents. we are seeing the way they are in these interviews and in these comments.

lets just be real. they are cynical introverted assholes who repeat the same shit over and over. they all said switch would flop. all they care about is a traditional controller and a 2 hour long movie game like doom eternal and last of us. those arent bad games but obviously if thats all they look forward to they arent looking at amico. so there isnt a point to do these interviews. its not fun seeing tommy look sad or get depressed because these people are taking out their unhappiness on him. its not worth it.

Why the hell do these people latch onto such single points like this and beat it into the ground?

Tommy answered, they're engineering buttons that attach to the screen that don't fall off and they're testing the hell out of them. What the hell does he want?

I think it has gone past any reason and sense at this point, where it originally was a intended as an invite for fans and curious people to get to “tag along” on this development journey, bounce ideas and feedback about a product, have the opportunity to speak directly and interact with the team behind it, and you don’t even have to take a purchase decision until it’s launched. Instead has taken as an invite to dissect every word, detail or video frame to get a chance to cast doubts about the project or anyone who is interested in it. It’s the salesmen’s worst nightmare when people who have absolutely no interest in buying a product, yet can’t stop asking/searching about  every ridiculous detail or potential “problem” with the product just to watch the salesmen suffer - they are sadist.

This is pretty much exactly right. They are all now sitting around with too much time on their hands, and no knowledge of what they're talking about, dissecting everything they can to find a "gotcha" moment. For some reason that makes them feel vindicated online.

I have noticed this too! How can this be? Console manufacturer's fanboys are even worse than political or sports fanatics!

In Spain, a Nintendo fanboy even created several fake "Nintendo haters" nicknames and used them for years. He did the same trick in 2012 and 2017. The method was to create a blog where he posed as a person trying to "unmask" Nintendo with things like "Nintendo didn't really invent X" or "the Genesis was actually more powerful than the SNES in X".

After hundreds of blog entries and forum messages, he then revealed his plot with his real user and showed captures of the "friend list" of his fake user.

In the end, he only managed to achieve a Streisand effect: even most Nintendo fanboys said that he was nuts, and some other users pointed out that most of the historic data he provided was real. So the real lesson was how crazy can a Nintendo fanboy get over a video game discussion, to the point of creating fake IDs to stalk others, and this actually damaged Nintendo and its fanbase more than defending it.

I've seen weird and permanently negative fanboys from other companies such as Sega, and I'm sure there must be some extreme Sony and Xbox fanboys capable of this too, but, based on my experience, the two main motivations to go crazy and start stalking people on the Internet over a video game console are 1) Defending Nintendo and 2) Getting obsessed with one particular user/youtuber/personality.

I feel like these types of interviews are doing more harm than good. These hardcore gamer types just don't get it. And then they turn around and say incorrect things about the system. Spreading more nonsense.

Tommy does a great job keeping his cool and staying positive. But, most of these guys think gaming is relegated to the big 3 console makers. Anything that deviates from the norm is a gimmick.

Remember when the Wii controller was shown off? These types of guys were laughing at it. Saying it was a joke and no one would buy one.

I don't know. I just get aggravated listening to people with such a closed mindset. I actually turned the interview off last night about halfway through. Right after the interviewer couldn't understand the Amico online stuff. First time I turned off one of these interviews.

I don't care if people question stuff. Or if they don't like stuff. That is completely different than an interviewer not being able to understand simple things because they are so bigoted.

This is part of the reason that I'm considering interviewing Tommy; most of these hardcores most likely can't be bothered to understand, so there are lots of people saying things that are not true. As someone who might be considered hardcore depending on who you talk to (I have a SuperGrafx and now a Neo Geo AES. Those 2 alone are probably enough to qualify me, but who really cares? I don't!) but also being a relatively young dude with a professional background in business, I think I most likely can bring some things to the discussion that most others can't.

I don't pay attention to the entire video game community on Youtube with like 3 or 4 exceptions. There is a reason for that, and the observant of you in this thread will notice that I generally avoid discussing Youtube things entirely. I'm still not certain as to if I'll actually interview Tommy, but we'll see. I keep wavering back and forth since I don't watch many of Tommy's interviews due to the time difference and my own forgetfulness, but also because a lot of the questions that I'd like answered get asked and answered in other people's interviews or in this thread.

Will I do it? Maybe. Maybe not. We'll see. The time difference makes it awkward for me as well.

How many times over would that hold the Amico library?

Those are fake... basically, they format the descriptor table to fool the computer into reading 2 TB, but if you actually use it it will fail horribly. There's a reason it costs ~$80, but the Sandisk 1TB costs ~$229.

Yeah... I think I really need to start moving on from these types of interviews.  Going to start focusing on the non-gamer stuff moving forward.  Still have a bunch of gamer ones in the hopper (almost 2 a day for the rest of the week), but I believe it's time to move on for now.

Glad to hear this, Tommy. You can't convince someone to do or try something when they are so set in their ways they can't even comprehend a new idea.

Just like coronavirus is a lie created by the Illuminatis, the Amico doesn't actually exist.

It's all a scheme created by Tommy to win the secret Guiness reward of $1,000,000,000 after doing more than 1,000 interviews in 6 months.

I mostly do them cause folks ask and I want to be nice to them (no matter how big or small their channel is).  But yeah... it looks some folks will now take something I say and use it out of context.

It's fine.  Time to move on.  I'm sure I'll do others along the way... but won't be my focus.

Doing one with Vera Dark tonight at 5pm (live) and she doesn't want it to be an interview at all... she wants to just have a conversation... so that should be nice.

Always a joy to see folks from here in the chat.  Very cool.

Here's the link.

One of our big partner press releases are coming out next week and lets just say I think I may be doing some "sports" related interviews soon.

But seriously, Tommy, perhaps the virtue is in the middle road this time.

Perhaps you could start doing interviews with youtubers with 1,000+ views per video only.

I think you (as any regular person, not that is bad) were not aware of how mental some of these Internet haters are and how much they can drain your energy, to the point that it's actually better to ignore them even when you could easily win a debate with them using real data.

Sports? During the 16-bit era I played a ton of sports games. Madden, NHL, Tennis...even some basketball and soccer.

But, I stopped playing them around the PS2 era. I'm not sure if it became too complicated or what. I just stopped having fun with them. So, I am really looking forward to getting back into some sports games. Can't wait to hear what the news is.

If they don't offer to take you fly fishing and interview at the same time... yeh maybe best to skip.  ;-)

Veggie Dogs served at the campsite that night with O'Doul's just for you.

No guarantee Alien's will not be present.
