True to a point.  I say its ok. Because if these people get to only speak when someone thst is on the fence stumbles on to these videos and only hear the negative comments then they can decide its not for them. Having someone using real facts give the outside observers better information. Like right now ive had a debate and the youngman arguing and made points that dont work in the real world. Showing how these dont relate to the average consumer and using facts are not there to convince the hater but the outside observers

Unfortunately, I think the downside is that the more confrontation there is, the more it draws attention to the trolls and the more interesting it makes the trolls to normals.

So I was speculating on the physical copies of the games. Would the game be sd or some sort of game embedded in a replica cart from the original intellivision? Maybe they plug into the usb port? Possibly a hub that connects to the usb and these physical copies plug into that?

Rfd using a collectable that has the software inside it making it a physical copy just not sure how the rfd works and if there is a way to transfer date that way. It seems to me it couldn't had is there only to unlock via the internet.  Either way I curious how this will work out in the end.

I believe the rfid “physical” media only has a download code to transfer that comes in some collectible. Word was this was the only form of physical media although Tommy has said a couple things that tease that there may be more standard physical media but that is just speculation at this point.

Ok Quick fun question.

During your gaming life what games were system sellers for you?   You know as soon as you saw or played it you had to have that system.

Like many of you I have had a ton of systems, but at various times I wasnt always the earliest adapter so sometimes it was a game that sold me the system.

Three come to mind.

Smurfs Adventure made me have to have a Colecovision

Castlevania made me get a Nintendo literal right then. We stopped playing and we drove to a store and I bought the NES

Resident Evil made me get a Playstation

x1080.jpg

Here are a few of mine:

Atari 2600 - anything and everything.. I was a kid. Picking 2.. Superman/Adventure.

Atari 5200 - Star Raiders

CDI -The bad Zelda/Mario games

3DO -  I was one of those people that bought it when it was the pack in game ..

Nuon- Tempest 3000

Vita - TXK

Amico - Tommy the game

Jaguar - Tempest 2000

Intv - Astrosmash

PS4/PSVR - Polybius and Tempest 4000.

You may see a running theme

The second video was interesting to me, personally, from the approach he takes discussing the Amico's potential for language education. He seems to be both informed and passionate about these types of material being more accessible to others, which is a very unique take, in my humble opinion. The fact that this potential has been seen without any real open discussion in this avenue is extraordinary. His points on language software carry weight, as linguistics seem to be a field he is intimately familiar with. I also appreciate the fact that he stated plainly in the open that he's not a serious video gamer, but that there is still an opportunity for this system to offer something unique to the community he is a part of.

I love gamification in learning - a couple of the interesting titles I have seen are:

  • "Learn Japanese To Survive! Hiragana Battle" - an RPG where you attack by drawing Japanese characters (something like this could be a natural for the Amico's touch screen)
  • "Epistory Typing Chronicles" where you attack monsters in a beautiful origami unfolding world by typing words (it is a keyboard practice tutor basically)
  • "Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna)" - a side scrolling puzzler but steeped with Native American culture, lore & cut scenes featuring tribal members talking about the story & culture

Some really cool edutainment stuff going on out there if, as per usual, you can find them.

Unfortunately, engaging with them at allparticularly hereis becoming a losing proposition for all of us.  The prevailing narrative among the people on the "other side" of this thing is that this thread is being used as a platform for attacking Tommy's critics and critics of the Amico, and even that Tommy is actively encouraging the people here to attack his critics on other venues.  If we try to persuade them, or if we try to demonstrate that they're arguing in bad faith, or if we speculate about their mental health, and especially if we quote their comments from other platforms for the purpose of responding to them here, it all feeds into that narrative, whether that is our intention or not.

I can understand why you're all motivated to do this: we're all enthusiastic about the Amico, and some of you have had to put up with a lot of abuse for it—I have, too!—and I know that you all feel a natural need to respond to it when it happens.  But I'd like to ask everyone to exercise more restraint, and to refrain from engaging in this kind of discussion in the future.  As I've said before ...

We've had lots of discussion of the "critics" here today, and I think we all understand their motivations pretty well, but I'd prefer not to see us dwell on them and what they're doing any more than we have to.  The more we talk about them, and the more we call them out by name—particularly the people who have been blocked from these threads and can't respond directly—the more we play into their hands, escalate the issue, and stoke the fires further.  As I've said before, I think the best way to answer them is to remain focused on the positive.

Remember that this is Tommy's Q&A thread, which is supposed to be all about positive and productive things as Tommy continues to take us on this journey.  I think we're building an enthusiastic community here, made up of people who have come to enjoy each other's company, particularly during these difficult times.  I predict that, after the Amico is released and we're all having fun with it, all the noise and the negative energy from the critics will quickly disappear.  So let's try to retain that positive spirit, and not allow the negativity to get us down now.

I tried to find his chat with Tommy. His Mac crashed and the chat was lost. Doh!

@jaybird3rd

I will refrain from posting any outside trolling n this thread from now on. I get that this isn't the venue for it.

However, I do take issue with passion, knowledge and a spirited fight for what is right attitude to be dismissed as a characterization of "Negativity".

I must be the exception that proves the rule?  I don't read, watch, or click.

Every single discussion or further comment about these clowns is detrimental, I really wish you guys would take Tommy's lead and let these people fall by the wayside.  The Amico is moving on to bigger and better things.  Let it.

Intellivision : Sea Battle.

Colecovision : The whole game library (apart from Carnival). Maybe Turbo was the one that I wanted the most, although I played with Lady Bug the most.

Videopac G7000 (Odyssey 2) : Computer Intro!

Commodore 128 : Programing my own games (it was in competition with the Coleco Adam, but the C128 was cheaper). No game in particular.

Amiga : Multitasking and the 68000. No game in particular.

PC : Ultima Underworld.

Sega Saturn : Virtua Fighter (although I ended up playing Sega Rally the most).

Nintendo DS Lite : Nothing in particular. I just bought one to try and I didn't like Sony much.

X-Box 360 with a Kinect : Dance Central.

I bought a Wii for my mother for Wii Sports, but she didn't like it.

I'm not sure what you mean.  When I spoke of "negativity," I wasn't referring to anyone here, nor was I referring to well-intentioned questions or criticisms, voiced here or elsewhere.  I went out of my way to avoid assigning blame to anyone, and I think I've made it clear enough already that questions and criticisms are welcome here, as long as they can be expressed politely and respectfully.

(Yes, I'm quoting myself. That's what happens when people are going crazy staying at home.)

Although I'm not a big fan of the remakes (yes, I know, no need to flame me), this is one of the games where the Amico controller could make the game much better than the original as we could be able to move the ship with the disk and simultaneously aim with the touchscreen.

I guess I didn't explain myself well on this.

By "successful" I intend to mean they go away. They are still there. Non responses only embolden their beliefs that their trolling is "logic and unassailable", which encourages more trolling.

No amount of ignoring makes them go away. Stomping on their faces with a verbal iron boot does.

Then do it somewhere else if that's what you feel you need to do.  This thread needs to remain focused on its original purpose.

I really do hope you can make you 10/10 release date as I can see how important your sister was to you and why the date is so important. Wishing  you the best.

Tommy, question about the controller...  when holding the controller horizontally and using the side buttons as shoulder buttons, are they positioned such that even young children's fingers can reach them (I'm thinking like a 4-5 yo)?  Or are the games designed that for very young players, the gameplay is simplified enough that they wouldn't even need to use them (i.e. they probably aren't playing Moon Patrol solo so in a co-op mode all they need to do is hammer on the screen, or perhaps the Karma engine kicks in and handles that function such as jumping for them and they just focus on slowing down, speeding up, and shooting)?

You are right it can easily become a focus we dont need that to overload this place. But this also only brings light on it by commenting on it as well. Often I'll see something I dont find relevant like hotdogs lol. Now it's fine I dont care so I just scroll past it. The best way as you have said it to not bring it up.

... but unfortunately, it only fans the flames even more.  Remember, we're talking about unhinged people who will loudly proclaim that "it is their right" to say whatever they want, but who will respond to any kind of counterargument or disagreement as if it was a "personal attack."  If you go to them and respond directly, they'll claim that "you're just a mob of Kool-Aid drinkers" or that "Tommy is putting you up to it"; if you respond to them here, they'll only say that you're "bringing drama from the outside" or "unfairly attacking them when they're not here to defend themselves."

ad hominem attacks are always used as a smokescreen to divert from the subject matter at hand when you can't counter someone's argument with a lucent, logical rebuttal.

So the search function in YouTube confuses me sometimes I typed in Intellivision Amico and be of the videos on my page of search results is The Goonies are back to first reunited apart episode which I have seen and enjoy quite a lot I even think Goonies could be a game for Amico instead of direct combat the game could be about solving clues to find the treasure avoiding detection by the Fratelli family  and setting traps to slow them down that being said not sure why the video shows up in a search for Intellivision Amico

That's YouTube for you.  But a Goonies game on Amico would be cool.
