Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Interesting idea.  If we end up with around 40 games it could get super expensive though... even if there is a big percentage off.

I was assuming it would be closer to 25-30 games not counting the 6 pack in games since there are usually less games than predicted for many reasons. I guess it also depends on how many games with be at 9.99. I also live in Canada 🇨🇦 .....and have the exchange rate to deal with. I am Definitely in the minority, but I would go for the “press one button” special and buy them all with whatever discount you could offer !! You only live once and it’s been too long since I have been this excited for a game console and I will end up buying them all anyway so.......... Let’s do this !!!

I'll need to make the decision if we see a great number of folks request it.  But need to always keep in mind our core audience.  A lot of negatives that come with it... but I'm open to the idea.

The issue is that the online games would be closer to $20 and we'd need to charge at least $10 - $15 per month for the data & servers, etc.  And then we'd need to worry about parents allowing their kids to sit in a dark room with their headphones on and not play with the family.

Not sure the positives would outweigh the negatives.  But again... willing to keep an open mind at this point.  A lot of focus testing would need to be done with our core audience.

My initial thought is it’s not worth it and Goes against the “mission statement” of the company and create all kinds of extra costs and other sorts of problems. Leave the online games to the other guys !!

Good idea, but I see one big problem ! 🙄

If you want to buy physical game as well, you will have some games in double... 🤔 lol

Hey Tommy,

I've been following this thread for a while now, but the post about Elon Musk bumped me out of lurk mode to say:

If you do get in touch with him, you should point out that K.I.T.T. in Knight Rider was able to play Intellivision games, so no reason Telsas shouldn't:

I'm doing my first ever watch through of this show, and just yesterday saw the episode with Auto Racing and realized it was an Intellivision game, then came here to see the idea of it being in a self-driving Telsa! That would be something! (I'd personally get car sick though)

You should include a Knight Rider easter egg in Auto Racing :)

Hi Tommy,

Here are some classic arcade games that would make for excellent "ports" to the Amico.

Because most (if not all) of them are obscure, it probably would be easy to score licenses for these games.

Same here!  I barely cracked 30 WPM with no errors, lets just say that environment was distracting.  To this day I still hit 'l' and 'k' when I really want 's' and 'd'.  No idea what that's all about.  That class was noisy! 1987 or so, we had some old typewriters in that room.   When I got a world processor years later it was like a gift from god.

I make a lot of mistakes typing, it's so frustrating I basically gave up an engineering career and just ended up working with my hands.  Data entry is a huge problem, I am so slow it's just not worth it.  I was struggling with self-employment taxes a few years ago, took me 8 hours to enter data into a spreadsheet.  Miss K did it in an hour, no mistakes.  I gave up at that point.  Texting is a complete nightmare, big fingers and thick callouses, it makes me want to scream.  The touch screen interface is a nightmare for people like me.

Tommy,
I wonder why the $25 gamecard is omitted in the First Edition whereas it is included in the FE, VIP and Gamestop Galaxy Purple pre-order. Can you explain the reason, please?

Yes, not a bad idea, you know you are going to buy them all eventually, why drag it out, maybe there is a small discount or bonus thing if you hit that button within a certain time from first start up 😄

Can this be a good idea for a recreational game on Amico ?

You could have long or short grass, etc.

Croquet :

Edit : Maybe aiming with the touchscreen, and then the stronger you press on the disc pad, the harder you swing.

Also lots of other possibilities on how the gameplay could be !

Same reason I took French for 3 years in High School. All girls except me and another guy. Friends tried to make fun of us until I pointed out the same thing...All Girls!.

In the last week of grade 12 the french teacher (who was a former piano player in Montreal strip clubs) taught me and the other guy a whole bunch of inappropriate words and phrases ;-)

The argument is even easier than that!   The Limited Edition consoles are $279.  This is because they are limited, but mostly because we need to do a more expensive method to manufacturer them.  Different tooling, molds, expensive paint, extra manufacturing processing, etc.

So... if they are selling for $279 and you are getting it at GameStop for $299 plus a $25 card... then the price of the console is:  $274!  $5 less than normal.  :)

That was glanced over all this time. I didn't realize that you are going through a different process. I'd love to hear more about what the difference is between the FE's/VIPs and the Mass produced versions of the console.

Drip Drip.. New stuff comes out all the time. If you happen to cover it past this post. Sorry for the repeat question. Playing catch up. Dang job gets in the way of this!!!! Tell my boss I need more Amico time please!

Hi,

Each retailer (and sometimes media outlets as well) have their own exclusives.  In Germany (where the First Editions are available) they have a lot of other things that the FE's, VIP's & GameStop don't.   Lots of different options for everyone.

If you're located in Germany and would like the $25 Amico game card you can currently order it on the Fig.co website and get it (along with some other goodies), but you wouldn't be able to take advantage of some of the stuff the First Edition has.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Crystal Castles by Atari

Mouse Trap by Exidy

Mr. Do by Universal

Turtles by Stern

Tutankham by Konami

Could be cool (for my taste and what Amico is targeting):

Pig Out by Leland

Space Dungeon by Taito   (Controlling with the touch screen and aiming with the disc)

Swimmer by Tehkan

Marvin's Maze by SNK

Rampart by Atari   (Never played that game but could have potential. Could also have players controlling ships !??)

For me personally, I hardly ever play online. I just don't like dealing with kids & tweeners who have no social filter on trash talk, get really obnoxious & need to be slapped. I guess I'm just a mean old man. I know I can mute them, but what's really the point of online otherwise?

Also considering that supporting online would add significantly to the cost & time of game development, I personally would prefer not to have Amico dive into that market.

I was looking that video, then said to myself : "If we take turns while playing this kind of game, Amico absolutely need to let play the other player when a level is finished"

That way, it will take less time before each player can play. So when you are dying, or when you complete a level, it's time for next player !

Edit : I remember how long it was with lots of games before the second player could play when the first one was really good !

Edit 2 : Hmm, but the problem will be that one player could lost all their lives before the other one, but this kind of things happen anyway with bonuses ! :)

So when a player will lose all their lives, he will appear as a new ennemy ...   lol
