Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

That was AWESOME!!  Thanks for the link!

Here's a few I picked out for folks...

JC Penny 1980!

For me JC Penney was the go to catalog,  the Sears layout always seemed dated to me.  I love looking through them to see the old toys I had and what was available back then (and the prices)

Hey guys, I'm just as excited as the rest of you for the Amico and just thought I should join AtariAge because there isn't much activity on the subreddit... 🙄 (would be interesting if you guys tried to expand to Quora as well)

Although I have been lurking around for about 80 pages of this I came to join the site to share this link because I think it could raise the popularity of the system.

Let me know what you guys think, and keep it up the conversations! 😊

welcome to the best darn Q&A on the internet :)

Tommy, are the tests starting soon ? ( 2 months of testing )

No.  Still waiting for all the molds... and then our mechanical engineering team needs to sign off on all the molds.  They tell us they should be in within the next 2 weeks.

Just another COVID delay that folks need to understand.

Powerless, the planned launch date has just started to slip through our fingers ...  😪

Exactly, we used to stock up pretty well to avoid anything like that...even had a couple black wiffle ball bats, official wiffle ball bats, instead of the yellow.  They sold black one at some point, but very limited...

We only used wiffle balls with the holes, but taped the balls with masking tape for added weight so they were easier to control  and could throw it faster. We never used plastic bats as we used real baseball bats. We played a game we called Indian Ball. If you got the ball past a certain point without the opposing players catching it on a fly it counted as a single or a double depending on the distance. If it got to the fence it was a triple and of course over the fence was a home run. We played this for hours and hours and hours in the spring and summer. The good old days for sure!

I could see this as an option in the baseball game.

Man, I gotta say the early 1980's were a really cool time with the various consoles like the 2600, Intellevision, and Odyssey 2 along with the great dedicated handhelds like those from Mattel Electronics.

We played so much wiffle ball growing up that I once contacted the company directly to see if I could purchase from them wholesale.  We would go through the wiffle balls pretty quickly...when the plastic connected to the holes would crack.  We called that "smiling."  This one is smiling, time for a new ball...

We'd stuff the ball with paper towels, and tape the holes with masking tape. Lost the classic whiffle-curve, but the distance you could get... epic home run derbies.

I have been a hardcore gamer since 1980 and I like the Amico. In fact that's what I am looking forward to the most in regards to the upcoming consoles. I just need a site now. 😉

Hi!,

Thanks so much for joining us and thanks for the awesome post!

Former Intellivision president Keith Robinson told me that Elon had an Intellivision growing up and it was his favorite console (said he had heard that from a family member of Elons' he once met).

I just Tweeted THIS.  With over 33 million followers of Twitter... he may never see it!  But if others here can tweet him as well... maybe he will!

Here's what I wrote.

Pretty hilarious considering that ding dong has at least 2 or 3 fake accounts that people have told me they've uncovered and reported.  They said he's some kid in Canada who I guess doesn't have anything better to do with his free time.  Sad.  I think he needs to spend a day with fellow Canadian @OEB_Pete:)

Vara Dark sent me a song he did about me (excellent singing voice and rhythm... I really need to hire him at some point).  After that masterpiece (of psychotic behavior) I refuse to watch his videos or engage with him (I tried a few times before realizing his mental state).  Someone messaged me and said he made a video about Gamestop and Intellivision and got every data point completely incorrect.  Not surprising.  I guess he keeps proclaiming that there's just a Banana Pi inside the plastic of Amico? (even though we've showed the board a number of times). I'm sure @RxScram might have a thing or two to say about that.  :)

These folks are definitely getting stranger and stranger and more unhinged.  The funny part being that they have so little self-awareness that the trash they put out there (that only a very small handful of people ever see) is their way of getting attention.  Yikes!  Sounds like they are in need of an Amico more than anyone!  I wonder if their fake accounts will play couch co-op with them?

:D

LOL. I wondered what you would think of this “song’s” musicality as a musician. The word abomination comes to mind. I only lasted about 30 seconds as it hurt my brain.  🤣

I hunted down your tweet and liked it..  I also Tweeted at Elon earlier today, but that was related to his changing his avatar to the Deus Ex box several days ago (the day when he went a bit batshit crazy on Twitter).  I worked on Deus Ex, so it was cool to see, but at the same time I was a bit torn given some of the statements he was making!

Oh cool!!  Thanks!

And I didn't know you worked on Deus Ex!  LOVED the first game!!!!!!

We did a whole story on it on Electric Playground.  Did I meet you when we were at the studios?  I believe in Texas about 20 years ago??  Ion correct?

Romero & Tom Hall are good buddies of mine from the 90's.

I TOTALLY think you should do an Amico video with your WIFE!!  And she can berate you and yell at you the entire time!

And if she refuses to do it... then you should just play her roll and dress up in her clothes and get a wig!

Glad to hear you enjoyed Deus Ex!  I was one of the three programmers on that project, and later also worked on the PS2 version.  The main Ion Storm Austin was in Dallas, and our office was (thankfully) in Austin, away from all the drama!  If you never came down to the Austin office, we probably never met.  I had a whole wall of Ultima maps and posters in my office, so that would have been marginally memorable.  John and Tom are great guys!

I checked YouTube and found this!

Cued up to Tom Hall.  And right after... Warren Spector who also worked on Deus Ex which we talk about in the interview.

:)
