Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

I still do not own that game, or know how to play it, I will leave now :(  Though I do have a let's play coming soon as it is on my INTV Flashback I think

For me the lure of Utopia and quite frankly the Intellivision was the depths of the games. In an era of slide & shoot and bleeps & bloops here was a real time, turn based strategy game. Factories, crops, rebels, fishing boats and PT boats to sink those trawlers (if the pirates didn’t get them first). But it wasn’t just you against the other player but also random events: rain (to make the crops grow), hurricanes that could wipeout all of your hard work or rebels popping up. The only downside was it was two player only although you can play one player and just go for score or if you are bat sh*t crazy like me alternate the controls and play against yourself.

@Tommy Tallarico

Ok heres another one and it was lightly discussed. And my memory on it is vague. There is a video on YouTube on the subject but I cant seem to find it. It has to do with learning foreign languages. Just wanted to clarify this topic.  Do you guys have something in the works or have spoken to any developers on this? Or just on the board for future projects? Sorry if it was discussed before

Question for Tommy:

- Will the European and American versions of the Amico have exactly the same power connectors? I mean, will both versions be physically the same except for the cable and some stickers, etc.? Will European VIP/FE buyers be able to find a regular power cable in their shops to replace the American one?

Question for @jaybird3rd or the other moderators...  at what point will the Amico get its own section in the forums under the "Modern Gaming" area?  When the Amico is officially released?  Will this thread just get locked at that point and refer folks to there?

We've been discussing a few ideas along those lines.  At the very least, I'd like to see a FAQ section with a categorized list of all the questions and answers that have been generated in this thread, to make them easier to find.  Ultimately it's up to @Albert, of course, but I don't foresee doing anything with this thread except moving it into the new section when the time comes, along with all the other Amico-related threads.

Ahh, yes, we need to do that!  Thanks for the reminder, I'll go hunt down that PM thread so we can move that along.

New Tempest confirmed!  We haven't started working on it yet, but I have the license to do an exclusive game and we will be taking full advantage of that.

Hey Tommy,

If you could get at least input from Jeff Minter that would be fantastic! If David Theurer AND Jeff Minter worked together on the new Tempest... Wow.. WTBS - Wouldn't That Be Something.

At the risk of stirring up more drama, I just thought I'd share something I saw on YouTube from our friend "Ez G":

ezg0527.thumb.png.a20a2691d727dd79f2b9e45dfcde5554.png

Uhhh ... no, he wasn't.  I just checked, and he has not been blocked or banned, either from this thread or from AtariAge, nor has he ever been.  He received a warning, nothing more; if he hasn't come back since, it's because he has chosen not to.

The people who are conversing with him and high-fiving each other in that particular comment thread—as a courtesy, I'm not linking to it or showing their names—are among the same handful of people whom we ultimately did have to show the door ... and their claims about how and why that happened are equally lacking in credibility.  It just goes to show the kind of character you're dealing with when you deal with that particular group, and how small and insular the group really is.  I just wanted to clear that up, in case anyone here was concerned that someone was banned or blocked unfairly.

EDIT: Just in case he tries to be a turd and deny that he's lying, here's some proof for anyone who's interested.  One of our new moderating tools produces a list of everyone who has ever posted to a given thread; with a single click, we can block anyone from the thread as needed.  Normal, unrestricted users are shown in the list in green; blocked users go to the top of the list and are shown in red.  Here's the relevant part of the current list, as of two or three minutes ago:

Guess what?  He's still green.  Only a few of us have access to this list, and none of us have touched it in months.  I just hope his friends on YouTube aren't too upset that he lied to them to try to make himself look like some sort of "martyr."

I had a suspicion his goal was to get banned so he could go back and say "I told you they ban anyone disagreeing". His pigheadedness was a bit too much to believe about the crowdfunding thing. He got his warning and probably figured that was good enough. SMH

Amazing, isn't it?

I've said before that we should do our best to remain positive and productive, so I don't want to give these losers any more attention than necessary.  But perhaps we can better understand what "positive" and "productive" mean, and can better appreciate the people who exemplify those qualities, by occasionally taking a moment to compare them to their opposites.

Here on AtariAge, we have a whole community of imaginative people who are always working hard to create constructive passion projects—not just Intellivision fans, but Atari fans and Coleco fans and fans of all the other classic entertainment platforms that have a following here, and modern platforms too.  Whether they're podcasts or homebrew games or hardware upgrades or high score contests, what these projects have in common is that they're all about bringing joy to other people who share the same passion.  Compare that to the way these losers have chosen to spend their time, and the kinds of people they choose to associate with.  How can anything constructive or creative or imaginative or positive ever come out of that miserable camp?  They join other like-minded people who couldn't cut it here on AtariAge for various reasons—most of them having nothing to do with the Amico—and I can tell you that they're all a pretty pathetic and vindictive lot.  I know who I'd rather spend my time with!

Has anyone played the game "Start the Party" on PS3?  I keep thinking party games like that would be perfect for the Amico.  My parents bought a PS3 and splurged on the camera and motion controllers just to have that for when the grandkids come over.  It was probably the first video game they bought since the original Intellivision.

I'm hoping that last pack-in party game will have a similar feel.  While it's not my personal go-to type of game, it is incredibly fun when playing with non-gamer family members.

This also brings up a question.  Will the Amico have any type of camera support on the console, controllers, or as an accessory?  The camera made that game work, but it also introduced a steep learning curve for people like my parents 65+ age range.

That's from à-bas-le-ciel

His Amico videos focus on the parent's perspective and edutainment.  He did an interview with Tommy which appears the audio was lost, but he talks about it here and that video on foreign languages especially was this one.

Interesting focus, considering the other video game companies aren't really focused on edutainment, and it's entirely the domain of mobile apps or expensive method programs like Pimsleur, Rosetta Stone and the like, it'd be of interest to see how a game oriented company tackles foreign language acquisition, not really through gamification, but through games incorporating foreign languages as an incidental tag along.. picking up cues and vocabulary without rote, deliberate excerises and training scenarios.

Not my first or second interest in Amico, but I think it's cool he's honed in on it and talked to Tommy about the learning methods that seem to have a better retention rate (immersion through interesting activities - watching movies, playing games, engaging in things you like and want to know more of) than those exercises.

I actually was thinking how it could be incorporated into a platformer. Where you have to say certain things to open doors and do certain functions maybe have mini games that have toy speak.

I imagine the most difficult part of making educational games is to make them actually fun and engaging. Who the hell wants to "play" Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing (I know, it's not actually a game, it's just an example) when you can play Typing of the Dead on your glorious 32-bit Sega Dreamcast?

This is an interesting concept. Something like Super Metroid where you need to go around finding words to learn or whatever to use them as weapons or tools or something, whether through the microphone or some other input method would be interesting.

@jaybird3rd  I just want apologize because I thought you locked me out of my account. Because yesterday at 2:00am I was signed out of my account & received an email that said my account was lock for security purposes.

I assumed you locked my account after the warnings. I didn't check my email again to see any other messages. I just did and it wanted me to reset my password.

I just want you to know that this was not a stunt. I never came to the forum to get ban or troll. I just wanted to talk to Tommy.

Apology accepted.

(The next time you talk to them, which I'm sure won't be long, please give my regards to the other members of my "fan club" on YouTube.  I follow their comments regularly, and I've found them to be very enlightening.)

Yo @Michael Garvey:  You need to start tagging all your videos with the words Intellivision & Amico.  They don't come up when folks do a YouTube search.  You'd get a lot more views if you tagged your vids.  They are amazing and we need to get ya more eyeballs!

Of course it is assumed you will go back to that videos comments on Youtube and clarify that you were not actually banned right? Make it known that you were never banned or locked right? Because of course if you are going to talk crap about Atariage over in Youtube comments you are a big enough person to admit to those same people you were wrong. 🤔😉

UPDATE: Pffft ! Scratch that, just seen those as well as the rest of your comments on Youtube, yeah ok buddy, CLEARLY you are playing both sides here, none of your claims of just wanting to "talk" etc, are true, you are doing NOTHING but posting negative comments, of course you will lie and claim otherwise , we have seen it a million times but anyone who has seen the way you are going on over their would have any doubt that your ONLY reason being here is to infiltrate and spy so you can go back and shit talk more on Youtube. But go ahead and claim otherwise, your trolling here period while claiming to be a "potential customer" and just wanting to "talk to TOMMY" except NOTHING you are posting on Youtube supports that claim. OK have your fun, myself I wont read anymore of your responses here as they are meaningless. Carry on TROLLING 🙄

My favorite line from that trailer:

"Lets get our whack on!"

Really?  No one in marketing flagged that?

:D

We do have camera support... but it's not from the console or controllers themselves... but in some games you hook up your mobile and do different things with it.

:)
