A SNAFU. While sometimes used as a synonym for minor malfunctions and hiccups, this slang military acronym—“Situation Normal, All Fucked Up”—

by making it SNAFOO it removes the military acronym

Which also makes it family friendly.

after listening to the Pete's chat tonight, if it all possible a launch in 2020 is desirable. Obviously if it's not ready, it's not ready. But even if we only had 35,000 units you could fill the founders, the vip, and get it into a lot of Mom and family  vlogger hands and start creating a buzz without spending much on marketing and then go big in the spring when they have their production going and cost are more favorable.

Played Sea Battle with my 6 year old this past weekend for the first time. I was concerned that he wouldn't be able to get the controls but he did after some time and he really liked playing and didn't get frustrated. So I am excited to hear that it is in the work queue.

He also has never seen my original Intellivision console as we have only played on the INTV II. He commented on how he liked the woodgrain and it makes it look fancy😂 Wasn't expecting that.

Good podcast tonight Pete.  The topics were interesting.  Especially the beatemups topic.  Someone mentioned fighting with Legos.  How about Lego Fighter?

Thanks, I thought that was a good topic, not sure on the lego fighting though LOL

Just out of curiosity. Why was there concern regarding the game named Armor Battle and whether or not the old, original name should be changed to "Battle Tanks" or "Armored Battle Tanks" for added clarity? I mean, I'm not trying to recycle an old topic here, but there's lot of old games that could fall under the same scrutiny. Now, Tommy,  you own the game so obviously you can call the thing whatever you want. I personally didn't own an Intellivision back in the day (I had a 2600), so I don't have a personal attachment to it like I'm sure many do, but if Armor Battle was the inspiration for this upcoming tank game, then why not go with the original name? Why change this one and not others? For example, Snafoo. I know it was originally spelled SNAFU, but the majority of people playing the Amico are probably going to read that and go, "What the heck is a Snafoo?" I don't know,  just a thought.

Just curious: is radio advertising planned for the Amico?

No no, I'm serious: while traditional TV is clearly on a deadline (even to my uninformed mind), radio seems to remain popular for use in the car. And there's apps like iHeartRadio, too, that rebroadcast radio stations over wireless.

Yep like a soft launch. Satisfy the immediate fans, squash the haters and conspiracy theorist, and start to get more eyes on it. The only problem there is that Nintendo has showed us multiple times that super demand and low supply equals Chinese knockoffs. I'm really hoping for a 2020 release, especially in light of how this year has been. We're rootin' for you, IE!

Im.hoping for 10/10/2020 as well. Because how awesome would it be  even.if the atari reaches backers in late October or november .   The amico launches first on its original

Planned release date even with all thats going on in the world , while ataris  like atleast 3 or 4  failed launch attempts already.

Even though so far the vcs seems like nothing mire than.an underpowered pc

As opposed to a console.

It would be epic. I have a hard time calling it an atari. If they had a list of reimagined list of games like the Amico has and a clear mission statement then I would be interested but its got neither

Same id honestly buy it if it tried  to be kinda what the amico is but more of an.old school.hardcore adult focusworh exclusives.  But they are touting a version.of missile command thats been out gor months  on mobile  , pc and all consoles.   Amico on the other hand has an exclusive  8 player missle command  with vs and co op.

Amico has more exclusive new atari ip than the actual atari console

The only thing it has it and its joystick look pretty cool. That's it and I pre-ordered one because when it was first announced I hoped it was a true retro revival system, thankfully Amico has filled that void but the VCS is a missed opportunity, Too expensive and powerful for a retro system and too under-powered for a gaming pc. Not a great place to exist on the spectrum.

I don't understand Conan here. The tanks game and Pitfall must have been incredible at the time and they look pretty fun today.

Once more, video games don't receive the respect they receive as an interactive form or art.

Something that important in human culture should not be treated like that by a professional journalist with millions of viewers.

Conan is a comedian so of course he is going to poke fun at anything he takes on. Also lets face it, sometimes you couldn't tell what was going on in those Atari games (and some Intellivision games too, although the graphics were better) without looking on the box to see what you were moving around. However you are right that video games are a new art form that combines motion game mechanics, graphics, sound & music and should be respected in it's history, as well as, today. What bothers me most is his whole comedy premise is based on current gamer elitism, same one that scoffs at the games on the Amico, makes fun of casual gamers and are general insufferable.

Your spot on with "too expensive and powerful for retro and too under-powered for a gaming PC" and your also right - they are just missing a bunch of games and, more importantly, some game exclusives to make it a retro revival console (or really just a console). According to my back of the envelope math Intellivision is spending more (maybe a lot more) on software than hardware - even though their hardware (mostly the controllers) is way more custom than Atari's. Unfortunately Atari got just enough money (really not even that) to try to make some hardware and it didn't leave a game budget at all it appears.

I am still shocked but how little effort there was to cultivate original software, not a single exclusive is pathetic. In many ways, it suffers the same issue the Ouya did, whithout meaningful exclusives or sense of identity what is the point of a system?

It would have been cool if they had made a new pitfall like one of those 3rd person adventure games on mobile.  In fact there is alot of nice games that have come to mobile and having a dedicated console would be perfect for them. Even like the uncharted game on the vita. But  pitfall. Then made other reimagined games. River raid, Hero these alot they could have done. But I feel they had no enough money to do any game development.  Sad really.
