Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Agreed.  That is our plan to get to at some point.  But not out of the gate (time/costs/resources, etc.).

As we build to that (and even more!  Maybe a new release every 3 - 5 days eventually).

To clarify what I meant in the video in regards to the idea of showcasing...

July 1st we could release 4 different games.  Retro, Edutainment, Casual & Sports.

If a person LOVES sports and has bought a ton of sports games... then we will first feature the new SPORTS game to them.  The other 3 games are still in the store and they will get featured to the "Sports" guy over the next 3 weeks... but they see the "Sports" release first.  So they have something to play until the next month where another Sports title would be released, etc.

Just an idea and concept at this point.

I like and vote for this idea if possible.

So I just watched the latest Pat and Ian video on YouTube where they each gave their opinions about which console they'd play for the rest of their life should there only be one.

To my surprise it wasnt bad at all, but what struck me most was Ian's argument about the PC Engine and GameBoy being the ones he'd choose, mainly because of the type of game he enjoys, shooter and mahjong games, but also that:

he could have access to many games that he can play for short periods of time and have fun with (45 mins);

he can log his scores in;

they are simple games that he can access quickly;

boot up time;

He finally went a chose the PC Engine because he prefers to have a game console for TV.

Seems to me that if a shooter game and a mahjong game was made available on Amico, he'd like it

😉

Haha, I just finished watching that too. I even commented. I now feel dirty...

It’s sad. When I see Mario or Luigi now, I feel a little disgust. Pavlov and all that.

Here's a question folks!

What name do you like better...

Armor Battle or Battle Tanks?

Armor Battle was the stand alone that showed the tanks in like a 3/4 perspective.

Battle Tanks is what it was called in Triple Action (which is more of the style of the new game we're doing).

Which name would you prefer and why?

Thanks!

My first sense after reading this was “Battle Tanks” because it fits the gameplay more and Armor Battle could be confused with suits of armor, for the non-INTV aficionado.

Nice one.

ABT!

Not bad.  Best of both worlds.

Something to consider!

Thanks!

... or how about Armor Tank Battles

Battle Tanks.  I just asked my wife, my 5 year son, and my 70 year old parents what they thought "Armor Battle" and "Battle Tanks" games were.  All of them knew what battle tanks were and none of them knew what armor battle was.

I personally like the nostalgia of having the Intellivision title "Armor Battle," but my wife and kids have no nostalgia at all for Intellivision.  All they know is a game called Battle Tanks is about battle tanks.  Armor battle could be some new kind of Pokemon battle for all they know.

Armor Battle.

Although this might not be a factor many will consider.. but Tanks are called Armor in the Military.  2nd Armored Division... etc.   It's used as tactical term meaning protection. "We need Armor.. now!!"   You never hear a soldier say "Get me some Tanks!"

But back to the choice reason.. purely nostalgia.  Seeing Battle Tanks was a game inside a main game (Triple Action), I definitely like "Armor Battle" better.  Battle Tanks was already used in a PS3 game in 2009 anyway... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_Tanks

Here's another even easier name...

Tank Battle...

Very good point. I hadn't thought about that.

It seems I've missed quite a bit of stuff.

Armor Battle is better than Battle Tanks, but I suppose younger kids might think Armor Battle means people fighting each other while wearing a suit of armor or something like that, like Crossed Swords on the Neo Geo. Still, I say Armor Battle. Maybe I'll get to that list of A vs B games that you posted a while ago eventually.

A question that was brought up elsewhere on the internet: how is the Founders Edition Golden Ticket thingy going to work for non-USA type people? By this, I mean will it still give them US dollars, or will it be converted to their local currency depending on how they set up their account? I'm guessing it will, and since I'm from the USA it doesn't really bother me, but it was mentioned elsewhere, so I figured I might as well find out since I'm curious.

I'm very curious to see how the console's online store will work, especially with pricing for different countries. Purchasing power parity is very real, as I'm sure you know. Steam is well-known for having terrible region-based pricing, and the insane Japanese Steam prices for Call of Duty are a good example. Would you pay 8300 yen for a Call of Duty game from 2013? It's on sale right now, but that's the normal price for it here.

Finally, do you think it might be interesting to release an Intellivision mini console in several years? Obviously you want to avoid advertising the Amico as one of those mini consoles because it isn't one (which is why I said in a few years), but I think it would be nice to see an actual Intellivision Mini or whatever that isn't made by that garbage company AtGames.

2) Staggered releases IMHO will never work well in a industry where "first" is a thing. Where people sleep out, people pay more, people do all sorts of childish things in order to be "first", Weird jealousy is a thing in the industry for some reason. As grown adults I still find it funny that people think tribal about game systems as if you just can own more than one.

I don't dig this "gotta be first" thing either. It means something only when compared to seconds, thirds, and so on. It means something only when there are haves and have-nots. Neighbors and the Jones to compare against.

Back in the day we did the "first on the block thing". Who got what game first. It was short-lived euphoria. It leads to excessive showing off and does little except increase jealousy.

Being first isn't all it's cracked up to be. It saddens me that the game industry is all about it. Not much left to do except get some laughs at the people camping out in sub-zero weather waiting for a product or game release.

I don't think I've ever pre-ordered a product, ever. And most certainly not have waited outside on release day. For anything.

Armored Battle Tanks. Self explanatory & combines both names. But I believe just "Battle Tanks" will win because of simplicity.

Final score:
Red: 2
Blue: 6 1/2

That is a crazy sport. Makes me wonder if we'll ever see a real life version of 7800 Ninja Golf. Didn't know until now, but a mobile version of Ninja Golf came out last year.

And what's the word on Sea Battle and Snafu? Back in the day those were some of the games that defined Intellivision for us. The others would be whatever was in the printed catalogs up to about 1982-1983. After that I had lost interest in anything "Intellivision". It was getting harder and harder to find stuff in the store. And titles were beginning to be announced that never came out - at least in my area. To be fair it was happening industry wide.

I always did admire that there was less trash for Intv compared against the VCS. I'm talking 3rd-party stuff.

And today's billion-dollar AAA+++ mega-titles are like so meh. None of it impresses me except the amount of wastage and expenditure on the part of the developer. And I'll (successfully mind you) argue that games are too-realistic looking. All the fun abstractness is gone.

I guess what I'm getting at is that I'd rather there be only 50 or 100 games that are top quality and don't require a degree in controlology to operate or 150 hours to complete.

As a kid (in the old Intellivision, Commodore 64 days) I did say: When a time is coming in the future, where games look like Cartoons, that would be perfect.

Now the games look even more realistic. And what happened in reality? I did lose every interest in the complete video game genre even before that.
So abstractness in graphics and unrealistic things like leaving the screen on one side, to come back in on the other side, I now see as a bonus. (But as an American/European company please avoid this childish manga style that I can't take anymore).

Amico with its clear focus and concept brought back my interest in video games.
By the way I even own a PS3 on which I have never played a single game and also have no interest to play on it. I used it only to ripp my Super Audio CDs. I can not tell you why, but this PS3 and especially its controller has absolutely no attraction to me.

I want to play together with my girlfriend. Now I do this on the old Intellivision (recently Frog Bog). In the future hopefully the Amico will take this place. At least I preordered one.

You should ask them what they think Night Stalker is.  For me it was one of my favourite TV shows as a kid.
