Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

And so what if they do prefer post-NES systems? I dare say most people do. The original Intellivision is forty years old. 40!!

Okay... folks who LIKED the comment about not talking about Pat & Ian anymore... are the ones still talking about Pat & Ian.

:)

Lets all agree to STOP talking about the negative guys who continue to lie to their audience about things I did and didn't say.

:D

Yup...40 years old and still awesome.

I agree.  In my opinion... it definitely holds up a LOT better than the VCS/2600 did.  Of course... it was better back in the day as well... so nothing has really changed.  :)

NOTE:  Totally biased comment so don't bother trying to refute or disagree.  :D

I can't imagine playing Intellivision AD&D, Deadly Discs, Night Stalker, B17 Bomber, Baseball, or Basketball with an Amico touchscreen.  It's too bad there's no more flashbacks.

Hi!,

I'm curious about your last line here.  Can you give me a little more detail?  Is it because the "bubbles" aren't there?  If so... you'll be pleasantly surprised I think.  Please give me more of your thoughts on your feelings about this.

Thanks!

I agree!!  Pac-Man games SUCK on mobile!  It's actually one of the examples I use when explaining how bad phones are as controllers for most video games.  We're not using the touch screen like that in any way.

And although you can hook up to 8 mobile devices to Amico... there are still some major things we haven't revealed yet.  :)

I didn't mind it either.  For me, the ColecoVision and 2600 were the ones I had troubles with... but I absolutely LOVED the ColecoVision Super Action sports controller.  The joystick was amazing, I loved the spin dial roller-ball type thingy and the 4 color grip buttons were so cool for baseball & football.

I don't really follow Pat and Ian, but I was looking forward to see their approach to the Nintendo Ring Fit compared to their skepticism towards the Amico.

This happened a few hours ago and they didn't disappoint me: they will buy it, they think it's a great idea, zero negative comments about it.

I don't need to make any comments, this thing comments itself.

Ms pacman or any one or two button intellivision games shouldn't be a problem with an amico controller.

The 5200 has two buttons mirrored on either side.  So like an intellivision controller each person has options on how to grip the thing.

Yes, it's because of the tactile feel of the keypad buttons on an intellivision controller.  But now that you've said this I'd have to try it out with the intellivision emulator.

I picked up the Colecovision Super Action controller with Baseball and Football at Kay Bee Toys during the crash very cheap and your right the football game was awesome at the time rolling the spin dial to throw a pass was pretty cool but man the baseball game was such a big let down..the pitcher batter screen was great but the game itself was really disappointing..the knob Controller on the Colecovision was a hand cramping experience tho

Yes, it was too bad they only worked for six month if you used them a lot. They were pretty pricey. Seems like any time you add a keypad to a controller, the price goes up $100 and/or the build quality goes down.

8:45 a couple Tommy references. I think you've improved their vigilance in being accurate, at least for this video.

Absolutely!  We are working on a few different ideas right now.  One was to bring back the old Kool-Aid promotion!  (except with a better game!)  :)

First off I hope for cool spot...I hear intellivision has a pretty ok sounds guy that might know a thing or two of cool spot (wink wink)

But on to koolaid man first off I totally forgot to mention him. Second. "Oh YEAH!!!"

Please Tommy I beg if you to include macho Man Randy Savage as a boss or final game boss...  Picture a hilarious scene where koolaid man busts through a wall and about to tell Oh Yeah....but then macho Man turns and says oh yeah (looking larger than life).    Then kool aid man who's leaking a little koolaid  yelps out "oh nooo!".  I for one hope the amico team has a wrestling fan on board nodding his head in approval of this lol :)

Based on what i seen here yesterday, i don't think Pat has even seen your apology video and is ignoring you all together and will only respond to marketing info you release later. I do believe he made fun of my twitter comment of him riding in your Ferrari. And someone made a joke of you picking him up in a van. So i say forget those guys. Pat is a super stubborn person.

If this don't take you directly there fast forward to 14m28s

That link forced me to sit through a commercial. Now I feel dirty giving Pat ad money.

Let us not forget the endless supply of Bed Bath and Beyond 20% off coupons. They'll probably be my go-to retailer for Amico gear, surprisingly.

The lack of tactile feedback is also my biggest concern. Back in the 80s, when for example we played Baseball, we always played without the overlays in order to be able to press buttons without having to look at the controller.

I've seen patents for tactile overlays over touch screens, but I never saw one in real life. I think it would be great if physical games would include this kind of overlay (if it works).

I think my first Super Action Controller broke in less than a month. The second a month later. The problem was a small piece of plastic inside that cost probably only a few cents. When you pushed the joystick, it pressed on that piece of plastic, which then pushed on the contact. When one of the eight branches broke (unlike most joystick, the Super Action Controller had specific contacts for diagonals), pushing the joystick in that particular direction didn't make contact anymore.

I bought the Super Action Controllers pretty much the day they were available, so I don't know if Coleco fixed that problem with later revisions.

Proof that I may be a little insane and have some retro gaming "issues". :)

Thanks for the video, I learned a few things about old systems.

Now I understand why Tommy is not afraid of losing all his money: he could be selling these things for decades.

By the way, guys, I know most of you here are not into 3D games, but I wanted to take this opportunity, now that the conversation about Walmart and stuff has taken a small break, to recommend a 3D game by some of the people who's working on the Intellivision Amico: MDK. It has my favorite soundtrack by Tommy (check out tracks 1, 10 and 13) and is one of my favorite games on the original Playstation. It has good FPS parts, good platforming sections, great sense of humor, very unique characters and levels... Seriously, try this game if you haven't.

Not to try to tell your game designers what to do, but it would be interesting if the Safecracker character was a bumbling imbecile like Inspector Clouseau who gets it right despite his mass destruction of priceless museum pieces.

Not being passive aggressive in any way. Just sayin'.

That’s an awesome collection Tommy!  I think it’s why I dig so much what you are doing, because aside from being an industry legend, you are also one of us, a guy who just loves video games.

At approx 16:50 min mark

”... here’s a really rare system... “

pauses, runs to classic gaming / VR room...

Great video. It shows that you are really one of us. ;)  I even spotted an Interton box.

Look at my avatar. It's the Brown Box from the videogame museum in Berlin.

I don't know why I forgot about the video game museum when I was in Berlin last summer.  Maybe my wife and I were caught up in the rest of the rich history of the city.  😉
